    As an Andorian once said, "Don't push the pink skins to the thin ice." Us humans can go along as peaceful as a lamb for years if it suits us. But when it doesn't, we can make a Mama Grizzly bear look like a tame tabby cat.

    The Federation itself is a double edge sword, the preach peace and have expert diplomats. This however makes them look weak to other races think the Federation is a bunch of hippies. This changes very quickly and scares many races including the klingons which by the time of the late 24th century would loose against a militarized starfleet.

      The Federation always seemed a bit dystopian to me. Growing up only with TOS we regarded the federation as kind of an analog to the US. By the time TNG rolled around it felt much creepier more like the UN or the way some people now look on the EU.

    From how I understand it, because "Canon" I star trek is so topsy tervy now, the development of laser weaponry and phaser weaponry happened at the same time in the decades after NX Enterprise. Phase weapons are the precursor to phasers, yes. But at some point laser weapons became more powerful and efficient. This all happening in the very early days of the Federation, I guess. Pre-2200s. That is until the Four Years war. That's actually how I've always thought of it. And in the sense of the development of technology and how technologies tend to evolve and develop, it makes some sense.

    • @90lancaster
      @90lancaster 5 лет назад +1

      I suppose if anyone cared to resolve this then the Phasers can classified as Nadion Beam Weapons and that for a very sort period of time some Laser weapons or laser-fed particle weapons (non-nadion beam type) were used - until improvement in Phaser tech rendered them obsolite.
      I'd have to check to see if NZ-01 era Phase Pistols and Phase Canon still use Nadion Particles as if they used a different particle that would at least give them some technological distinction.
      Other wise like Starship phaser's having a stun stetting then not then having it then not - back and forth then I guess one just has to shrug.
      Oh I think it's nice how the Loknar Template just keeps coming back again and again (both ways up). It's a good shape.

    • @90lancaster
      @90lancaster 5 лет назад +1

      @Evilmike42 I suppose we should be grateful they didn't call them Ray-pistols that wouldn't have aged as well as Phaser does as it does at least seem to stand for Phased Rectification - even if Gene didn't think of that at the time.

    • @90lancaster
      @90lancaster 5 лет назад +2

      @Evilmike42 I think It's self evident fictional weapons in a fictional show are fictional - I was just stating that it's nice that there is a terminological explanation for the word these days that I think is a decent enough fit. & that it could have been a lot worse they could have called them "Ray Guns"

    • @michaelmartin9022
      @michaelmartin9022 4 года назад +2

      Makes sense, early guns were inferior to bows and arrows outside of specific circumstances. The ancient Chinese even had rocket-propelled missiles, but they weren't as good as a sword. So it's not like a new invention immediately trumps an old one, and they may develop in parallel for many years (see also cost and size, in the days when computers cost millions and filled buildings, you'd get a typewriter for your small business)

    • @sagesheahan6732
      @sagesheahan6732 4 года назад +2

      @Evilmike42 Dude. Knock it off. You're walking in on a lore discussion waving your hands going "it's all made up! You're all wrong cause its all made up!"
      We know it's fiction, you don't have to point it out to the one group who meshes science with it. Of all fiction lovers, science fiction lovers tend to look for the difference between illusion and reality.
      Also: memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Phaser
      It is also reference does the meaning behind the word phaser is phased energy rectification in the Star Trek the next generation technical manual on the USS enterprise-d created by Rick Sternbach and Michael Okuda, who by Roddenberry's direction came up with all of the technical workings.

    Also nice to see Klinzai (the _real_ name of the Klingon home world).
    My brother had an interesting idea: what if Klinzai was the “Earth” of the Imperial race (ie pure blood) Klingons, and Quo’nos was the capital of the Empire, located at the epicenter?
    15:13 it would be interesting to see you tackle the FASA Klingon data (ie the human fusions) and *The Final Reflection.*

    NX-01 started out with plasma cannons and spatial torpedoes and later got upgraded first with phase cannons and then with photonic torpedoes while still utilizing the spatial ones as well.
    However, phase cannons are NOT the more advanced phasers and photonic torpedoes are NOT the, again, more advanced photon torpedoes.

      @Evilmike42 Yup, Amarillo Design Bureau managed to secure a license to produce their version of Star Trek that is forever back in the 1970s from Viacom I believe. We used to call it Starfleet Squabbles because the arguments over the rules sometimes lasted longer then the actual game. LOL

    8:23 I think you may be the first person to get the size of the D-7 right.
    The deck of the front pod has to be at least as thick as the Constitution’s saucer section (if not thicker) if the band of lights around the midsection of the pod are windows (indicating 2 decks).
    Most depictions of the D-7 are smaller than the Constitution, where the bridge takes up most of the forward bulge on top of the pod deck (as opposed to residing inside the cylindrical tower behind the bulge).

    Dunno, it kind of bothers me that a Klingon general defected to save the Empire. I think it's too vague a reason, since giving the Feds valuable intelligence just means Klingon resources will be destroyed faster with fewer Fed losses. Also, it bothers me that a 30k strong Klingon army was captured alive. Maybe Klingons were more bound to the warrior code by TNG, but I would not have expected them to give up without, say, 80-90% of their forces killed and the rest starved out (i.e., a much more extreme situation than the Germans at Stalingrad).
    Anyway, thanks for doing this, Resurrected Starships! It's good to see the summary of an old alternative history!

    • @AkodoAkira1
      @AkodoAkira1 5 лет назад +3

      So, in the early days of FASA and TOS, the Klingons were not the honorable warriors who believed in Victory or death. They did have a warrior ethos, but were fine with retreat, surrender, surprise attacks, and civilian casualties. In reality they were more of a analog to the Soviets than they were with any Samurai or Spartan ideal.
      In that sense, a defecting General makes more sense, same with the garrison. Some of those "Crack Klingon" forces could have been subject races, the General may have been a Klingon Colonial and not one of the later Great Houses, or maybe he was just sock of the drawn out war and dying and wanted to end it quickly.

    Interestingly enough, Star Trek is a marvelous lens for spirituality; what with dealing with totally nonphysical beings here and there that have their own sides' agendas for operating; and why you mustn't ever seek them out as well (think "Day of the Dove" for an example of a devil in "Star Trek" in the nonphysical entity that is seriously tempting the people in that for example.).

    As taken from Memory Alpha, Gene Roddenberry himself realized that within _48 hours_ of the filming of the second pilot that people would very quickly point out that lasers don't work as shown and invented the phaser as a result. The lasers as seen in The Cage are thus considered to simply be mislabelled phasers as a result.
    When _Gene Roddenberry_ admits the laser concept was a mistake...YEAH....I'd've personally said that older-style phase cannons and photonic torpedoes were replaced with their superior and more advanced developments. Arguing with the creator of Trek is a mistake you do not want to make.

      I don't know where all the Roddenberry worship is coming from. He's also Mr. Mixed Message who would insist that Starfleet was not military. Which I guess mirrored the American fiction of calling Apollo an all-civilian enterprise in order to score propaganda points against the Soviets.

    Two things you should know about Starfleet battle tactics 1. Rim side worlds are expendable they won't bother to defend when wars about. Second their most powerful tactics cause interstellar powers to over extend the lines so we can build up ours, overwhelm them and push back to the starting line. This no doubt one the the most effective if risky strategies in war.
    Burn them out and counter punch. It can be a fatal tactic if you can't bleed them dry, demoralize, and break their units. Thankfully the Klingons didn't go for the core 4 if one or two had been subjugated or even cindered the federation would have fallen in short order. The Feddies seem to use this tactic in every war they fight save the Borg! So if you find yourself suddenly in the trekverse know this get core bound or die!

    I like to laugh at the Klingon’s carried the day because they were more savage …. Because I’m sure charging into machine gun fire in WW1 may have been savage but also useless… does the federation just knee cap itself in every battle??? I mean how would charging lazer wespons go?… or charging over mines… feels like that dumb DS9 planet battle against the jemhadar when the could have just had phaser rifles set to wide beam that we kept hearing about … I imagine weapons getting deadlier not reverting back to essentially musket fire.. but love this series and hopefully you can do a more detailed version … me and my dork friends used to love Starfleet battles back in The day
