"Guzzurra" the lost mine

The deposits of galena argentifera and zinc, located in the territory of Lula, were discovered in 1867. In this year the concession was given to the Marsigliese Company, made up of entrepreneurs Pasquale Signe and Enrico Giraud. Mineralized galena quartz strands were grown that crossed the schist rocks in the West-North-West and East-South-East directions.
The main strands were: Sainte-Claire, Sainte-Emilie, Pastret, Napoléon, Poudrière, Sainte Anne, Sainte-Barbe and Filon de Contact. In addition to these there was the Su Sugigiolu fluorite vein. Cultivation was carried out through tunnels for research, preparation, water drainage and mineral transport. The extracted mineral followed a first sorting by hammer; the mixed were crushed by hand or ground and then classified using Sardinian sieves or cassoni. The mineral was then transported to the Siniscola beach, through a 36-km cart-track opened by dealers.
In 1870 one of the first mechanical laverie of Sardinia was built, of which the massive structure still remains, called by the Lulesi: Su Barracconi. Inside were the mechanical sieves, driven by a steam engine.
In 1913 the mine was transferred to the Gennamari - Ingurtosu Company with annexed a couple of small warehouses located on the beach of the Caletta, near Siniscola.
Unfortunately, the mine's savings management brought it to close in the 1920s, near the first world war.
In the '60s RI.MI.SA tried to resume work.
Of the ancient structures remain the ruins of the mining village perched on a panoramic hill, those of the laveria Su Barraconi, of an oven with fireplace, of a vessel. All the facilities are included in the splendid scenery of Monte Albo.
