Epic $500 2001 Yamaha YZ250 Project Bike Rebuild Timelapse

- I bought this 2001 Yamaha YZ250 for $500 from a guy on Craigslist. The bike was half torn apart when I bought it, with the engine already removed from the frame and the clutch taken apart. The guy told me the bike ran, but made a horrible sound. I tore the entire engine apart and 3 of the transmission bearings were sticky, which was the problem. I cleaned her up nice and gave her love where she needed it - very happy with the final result!
Bike is for sale in Bozeman, MT for $2,800. Message me on Instagram @kincadep if you're interested!

Kincade this is another absolutely beautiful build. You are a true master of dirt bike restorations. Have you ever thought about having a young apprentice work with you. I am sure at first it would slow you down but I’m sure if you found a person with the same dedication and hunger they would learn fast.
Your videos bring me great flashbacks of the motocross races I was in back in the mid to late 80’s. I’m sure your video’s have many generations drooling but I know the GenX guys are truly Blown away.
Thank You
I'll be damned, this was interesting from start to finish. Thanks for sharing!
Great work! Nice to get to hear it run at the end.
Thank you! Broke it in today down the street, she rips!
Nice build. Had a 01 ya as my first bike. It was stolen out of my garage. Picked up another one the a couple weeks back. Gonna bring it back to life as soon as I'm done my yz450f.
TV MX ahh that’s rough man sorry to hear, hope the next one turns out sick!
Ha, a fellow Montanian(Montana). I noticed that Bozeman location. Awesome video btw. Really inspiring.
Awesome job man. Nice work of re using most of the plastics. They came up really good. Most people just throw away.
Glad you enjoyed! I'll admit the plastics were new. Original airbox/tank though.
Nice job man, you should be proud of your work.
Paint the chassis, bro!!
Thank you! No way possible I would have ever, put everything in the frame without painting it! And much less rebuilt the motor without cleaning the crap out of the casing an jug an got all that greasy dirt off it. I blast mine before rebuilding them so the outside of motor an frame looks as good as it did when it left the showroom floor. To much work to not atleast throw some fresh pait on the frame IMO but either way i give the young man props most people his age dont know how to change the oil! But he will have a dependable good running bike now!
Great job mate, you have a real knack for fixing things, excellent work!
I was wondering about my Yamaha 03 450YZF overflow a bad cap or what do you have any input about that thanks

Hahah! Hope all is well man!
@@KincadePavich It is! Busy and hectic but all is well. I see things would be better for you if you wouldn't keep getting injured lol
What chain adjuster blocks are you using for that bike? @@KincadePavich
I feel you soo happy the first start when you work hard on a project 😊
Most detailed rebuild I ever saw. Amazing work bro.
Nice job mate, i used to love the white and red version of the YZ 490 and The FJ 1200 tourer, Yamaha are great bike designers..
Amazing build id love to be able to restore a bike like that

Nice job man, i'm from Brazil!

Great job, I love the detaling 💪👍
Very very rebuild! I have the 1999 yz250 and i believe its the same model bike. Either way, the thing is a freaking rocket!
People like you trick innocent people into thinking they can take on a challenge like this 😜
Amazing .

Excelente me encanta esa moto. Aunque me queda el sabor agridulce por no haber pintado el chasis y la tijera. Pero por lo demás disfrute mucho viendo el vídeo 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That turned out badass 🤘🏻
You weren't playing around dude!! Put this video with the bike when you sell it for +$1000 on Craigslist

Pena que aqui custa muito para fazer isso!
Motores dois tempos são os melhores! 🤘🏼🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I have the same bike I just restored top to bottom and the only thing left is the plastics and graphics. Where'd you get yours because I can't find restyled plastics like that! They look awesome!
Only the front fender/number plate on this are restyled. The rest of the plastics are stock for this year! I found the graphics on eBay. I believe the front fender was UFO.
@@KincadePavich awesome man! Appreciate the info!
@@horrorangler8744 No problem. The link for the front fender I have is expired, but it was UFO. Here's the eBay link to the graphics: www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-TEAM-GRAPHICS-YZ125-YZ250-1996-1997-1998-1999-2000-2001-DECALS/183671003677?hash=item2ac3a51a1d:g:464AAOSwyeNcWREA:sc:USPSFirstClass!59718!US!-1
Check out some of my other builds if you have time! Stoked on my recent KX250 build!
why goto the link you goto to do this build and not paint the frame? the factory blue looks amazing with a nice primer first coast. Did it on my 04 450f
Quick question, how did you ever learn to build your own bike?
Diddles Lack a little bit at a time! Research, videos, manuals
Great job👌
Nice job
Nice work! i just picked up one. Where did you get the graphics, seat cover, and what year is the newer front fender? The bike looks sick.
Braaaplive2strokes thanks man! Got the graphics and seat cover on eBay. Front fender is a UFO restyle front fender, though I believe 2009+ also bolts right up. There’s a TT forum on YZ plastics.
Bike looks sick I wanna build mine to look similar to that how did you get those hubs and wheels to turn out so good
Thanks man! Hubs I used one of VHTs anodized "looking" blue spray paints with the proper primer. Rims on this bike were actually plastdipped (which lasts okay but doesn't survive a tire change) but the best route to go with wheels is anodizing. You have to clean them really well, but then it literally changes the color by some chemical process and they can't chip or crack. Shop here charges me $75 to anodize a set of rims.
@@KincadePavich I might as well just get a new set of wheels my front is pretty beat up and bent but the hubs can be shined up pretty good I assume
Where did you get that sticker kit from? I'm considering getting a graphics kit off Ali express, they looks good but just not sure about the quality.
Nice build
Love the video
woooow Fantastic
Good job sir👍
Inspired! Thank you
Sick bike keep that
Great job 👌🏼
Crazy!
Why didn't you cerakote the engine-gearbox?
what did you use to paint you're rims? Did you use plasti dip or actual paint?
This was just plastidip. I'd recommend finding an anodizer and getting rims anodized though, it works great and lasts forever. Plastidip doesn't.
Congratulations well done
Hi, what did you use to buff the plastic?
Maxima SC1! Great stuff and smells terrific.
Спасибо за видео!!! Класс!!! 👍👍👍
Much respect
What paint was used for hubs and rims? Or was it powder coated?
I see plastidip cans was that it?
Hubs were painted, rims were plastidipped. I never expected this video to blow up like it did and this was a quick/cheap build! I still paint hubs a lot as its very durable, but dipping rims is a no go unless you're okay redoing it a lot. Paint will last on rims for a while, but not forever.
Gotta do an 03 yz250f!!
I build whatever I find good deals on - I'll keep an eye out! 02 CR125 build coming soon!
@@KincadePavich same, just finished 04 yz250 working on 05 yz250 and just picked up an 04 yz125 last night, thats how i came across your page just wanted to see some 04 125 builds but your 04 yz125 build is crazy nice! nothing was half assed and done all in your garage fkn beast bro! Keep up the hard work, Cant wait for the next builds! 👍
@@kanoaporter2958 Much appreciated man! Yeah that 04 YZ125 was by far my most all-out build, nothing left untouched.
@@KincadePavich i going try post a video so you can see the bikes i got, lol i can only imagine what you would do to these if was in your hands
Seriously amazing skills man. I have a 99 yz250 as well. Im curious how well that spray paint held up. 🤔
Not good at all
Jolie travaille!bravo 👏
What did you spray on the plastics to clean them
Sick!!!!
Need a friend like you bad smh 🤦🏾♂️
Did you change your forks?
Where did you get the graphics kit?
Yes sir!!!!!!
How did you learn how to do that?
badass
I had an 01yz250 and built it from the frame I know your pain I’m sorry for you 😂
Success!
What year front fender and plate did you use?
Goodjob👍
What year front fender is that
I love it brother
where do you find these cheap project bikes for such a low price?
I check Facebook and Craigslist every single day. They only last a couple hours when they pop up.
The rims and rear shock alone to be sent off or done professionally is $500 alone
I bought the bike for $500.
Yo where did you get the plastic frame guards? I have the same bike and I can’t find them…
They can be really hard to find anymore unfortunately. They're UFO brand. If you look on eBay you might be able to find some from the UK or other countries.

@@KincadePavich I have a brand new 2001 YZ250. Never been used. I always buy a spare bike most years since the early 70's. I have 87 new bikes now as of 2022. All never ran or used. Brand new. Cheers from Australia.
Awesome
Nice
Nice work, I cant do this. For you it like bycycle...
Nice bro
where can i buy a cheap dirt bike?
My bikes identical!!!
Were them forks bent?
What seat cover is that
why didnt you repaint the frame out of curiosity?
This was a project bike to flip. The rear brake line with the design of this bike would have had to be removed and completely rebled. For a bike I was just going to sell, and with the frame guards, I didn't feel like it haha. Check out my 125 build; went all out on that one
PUSH: Progression Unified Sports Hub makes sense, I was really just curious I hope it didn’t come off at dickish!! Looks good, 125 looked unreal!!!!
Yo quiero una transformación de mi moto jajaja saludos
How much do you charge?
I want you to do this to my 2001 Honda XR250R.
Honestly that sounds like a blast, I'd love to chat about it! Where do you live?
WOW!
Bravo!
Where do you find these $500 bikes?
Craigslist or Facebook - they don't come around often! Have to check every day.
6:25 no le hizo el servis a la suspensión? mmmm para una moto de cross es necesario mas si estaba en mal estado
Where did you get those plastics?
