- These pine cones look like they’re covered in ice but it’s actually just borax crystals! They’re really easy to make and only cost a few dollars. Bonus if you live somewhere you can collect your own pine cones. Unfortunately I do not, so I had to buy them. I could only find these cinnamon scented ones but they worked just fine.
You can find links to all the things I used to make these here: liketk.it/4sbcT
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions and if you try this DIY! I’d love to see your project!

Spray glue pine cones then dip in dry borax. Wait for glue to dry then put them in your boiled borax. Crystal turn out much better
How do the crystals look different? Do they adhere better?
How cool!!! I love this! I have pine cones allllll over my yard! Now I have a cool way of using them! Thank you so much for sharing this!
That’s awesome! Love to hear it.
What a cool trick!.. Thank you for sharing
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching! 🥰
I used pipe cleaners soaked in borax to make crystal earrings.
Oh cool! Great idea!
Great decorating ideas for the Winter: There is a scene in the movie Dr. Zhivago that includes a home whose exterior and interior are overcome by ice while it lays neglected through the winter. If you find the right clip of the scene, you'll see how stunningly beautiful it looks. The set designers used a variety of techniques to create this effect which included a fair use of plain candle wax and glitter. When I saw the film years ago, I was totally blown away and looked it up online. I'd love to have a chance to recreate some of what they did.
That sounds amazing! I’ll have to watch it!
I REALLY LOVE THIS😍 Gonna do it with My Grans!!! TY
Love to hear it! Let me know how it goes. I’d love to see!
A friend and I have a running joke about pine cones. So I want to crystalize a pinecone with red food coloring and give it to her on Valentines Day in a "display" kinda' like the floating rose in Beauty and the Beast.
Love it!
@@selenebuildsthings it's gonna be a challenge, I also got my hands on some glow-in-the-dark powder I might mix with it so maybe the pinecone might actually glow at night.
@@selenebuildsthings I do have a question(s): when doing this trick did any of your pine cones try to "clam up" or did they stay open/bloomed? Also, have you ever tried to borax crystalize a pine cone with food coloring added? I'm wanting mine to be red crystalized but vibrant, so I bleached the pine cones first.
@@TheOutsiderReese they stayed open. I’ve never tried it with food coloring! Let me know how it turns out!
@@selenebuildsthings we'll have to see in the morning. I have my pine cone setting in a type of plastic cup and submerged. I'm hoping this works. But mine immediately tried to close up when I put it in the borax/water.
Beautiful. Can you do this with bromalaids, or otherless delicate flowers?
Oooh I don’t know but that would be interesting to try! I’ve done artificial flowers that worked well.
@@selenebuildsthings Please think of making video using real flower. I'm thinking tulips, hydrangeas. Bromelaids when I can get them. Eager to try!
Will it damage the stove top ?
No, some of the water spilled over and it was easy to clean off.
Have no idea what 'until the water is saturated' means. Do you not have a specific recipe/measurement?
No, there isn’t a specific measurement. You just keep adding the Borax until it no longer dissolves. You’ll know it can’t take anymore Borax when the powder is collecting at the bottom and no longer dissolving.
@@selenebuildsthings thank you. got it
Can you use salt
I don’t think salt would form the same crystals
I assume not pet friendly.?
It is natural but not safe for pets to ingest.
