I just returned to the States after two months in Antigua (with a trip to Lake Atitlán as well) and I can't wait to return in a few months. It really does feel like a place I could live awhile. Lots of great restaurants and very walkable despite the cobblestone streets. Thanks for all you both do!
Wonderful inspiring videos. Thank you for educating us on traveling around the world. I would like to return to Antigua one day and visit all of these places you so, elegantly showed on your videos. Thank you so, much!
Hey guys so much wonderful information we can all use. Thanks guys. You two are so authentic in these videos it makes me trust what you are saying and want to travel like you have. ❤️🇨🇦❤️ Cheers!!!
When I was researching Antigua I was astounded by the number of restaurants listed on Trip advisor and the many cuisines available. Usually you have to go to a much larger city and even then often not have that much variety. If one is looking for a foodie paradise it would be very difficult to find another similar sized walkable city anywhere that's comparable.
I am going to Mexico City tomorrow for about a week, then Antigua for about a month. Finally to San Pedro al Laguna. I left San Pedro back to Hawaii March last year because of pandemic. After one and a half years, Now I am coming back.
Who else doesn't even begin watching before knowing you're going to give a thumbs up? Another great video Dan and 𝐐iang! Also, nice to hear Qiang in this video, that was my first time hearing her. She's lovely and charming! 💜 💜 💜
I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed Antigua which is one of my favorite places. I was born in Guatemala City and I currently live in the United States. Every time I go back to Guatemala I make it a point to go to Antigua.. it is absolutely beautiful.
$500 for accommodation with all amenities included is a great price. In our case, most likely it will be the everyday “eating and dining “ that we need to watch out. Can you please give us some hint and how much do both of you spend on an average decent meal? Thanks for your info and we really loved your videos...very educational !
I never even considered visting Guatamala - you have me ready include Antigua and Lake Atitlan in our slow travel itinerary. While I enjoy the beach, I am more inclined towards cities, especially the Colonial cities in Mexico you showcased last month. You guides are fantastic as they give the "meat" that I am looking for when we plan our trips.
We never thought about Guatemala either until we needed a hurricane hole for our sailboat. Isla Mujeres is not a place to keep a boat for the summer! We sailed to Livingston and up to Rio Dulce. We felt like we were in Jurassic Park! Rio Dulce is lovely, but way too hot for me. Antigua is the land of perpetual spring. We love it. And there is no graffiti like San Cristobal de las Casas. We were very put off by that. Also, it was too chilly. Antigua is perfect. Definitely put it in your travel plans!
Well done video! I like the way the 2 of you BOTH shared pertinent information. I've been living out of country for 9 years (Vietnam, Myanmar, Egypt) and I'm now considering an area fir retirement. I've always thought Antigua might be suitable and I thank you for enticing me to dug deeper into this option.
We agree. Much better to live in Antigua. We love it here. Our accommodations aren’t so cheap, but we love it. Lake Atitlan is very beautiful, but the towns aren’t as livable. Thanks for all your great tips on restaurants and shopping!

I really enjoy ya'll videos. I spent 20 days in Antigua and Loved it. I didn't make it to Pana because I got sick from the exaust on the chicken bus. i stopped midway and caught another bus back to antigua. Next time I'll take a taxi to panajachell and stay there a while. It's been 20 years since I visited there. I think I'll retire in malaysia though so I can find me a runway model too. lol
I hear you. We are often on the chicken bus too but not during the last year when distance from other passengers was an important factor in travel arrangements.
Teaching what? English? In my school, I have to pay about 15 dollars per hour for my Spanish class if it is one to one class. That’s why I plan to go to Antigua. Less expensive.
We took a private minivan for about $70 USD, Normally we would take the chicken bus or a shared minifan but we haven't been vaccinated yet. Just stop along the main tourist road in Pana in some of the tour sellers to get quotes.
@@VagabondAwake yeah, those chicken buses just make me nervous. LoL! I have been to Guatemala several times and obviously I've had no other choice to ride them without incident but I prefer a driver.
I am originally from Guatemala but have lived in the states for most of my life. Now in my mid 40's, we are contemplating moving there to start a new life; what I would call a "working retirement".
