Same thing with me +peter kuzemchak I love narnia. I even drew a huge picture of the Narnia title by hand by looking at a pic on my phone it turned out P-E-R-F-E-C-T i got all the points and everything correct there making a new narnia coming out in 2018 The Silver Chair the thing is they done know if the same actors will come back i hope they do cuz it wouldn't be the same without them and its sad there all grown up Narnia4Life
Btw Aslan represents Jesus and the witch represents Satan like when she killed him in The lion,Wardrobe and the witch narnia and he rose again and the table broke in half like it says in the bible that the earth split In half when Jesus rose again
I wonder what they did with Aslan since they filmed this? It is my life's ambition to meet and give a big fat hug to this robotic lion. Only then will I feel my life has been fulfilled!
drseafrog Oh I hear ya, I'm a lifetime cat lover, but it was only domestic cats I really had a heart for until I read the Chronicles of Narnia. Then I fell in love with _all_ cats, including wild ones. Oh man, the feeling I was stepping into another world!
Helen Hancock i grew up watching BBC Narnia, it has a special place in my heart ^^. I'd love to hear what involvement you had and what it was like working on Narnia :)
I am only 11 so I grew up in an environment where the new Disney films were more in fashion and more popular. However, the moment I saw the BBC version, I read all the books and now Narnia books and Narnia BBC all have a special place in my heart!
+Greg Richardson Hi Greg, I worked for the Producer, Paul Stone. I was involved in the administrative side of the production - there were so many people on this - it took up a huge portion of the BBC's budget at the time! Paul helped me further my career after that - I became a Studio Manager and have now written my first film. He was the best boss anyone could work for. A real gentleman and was kind and supportive to everyone. These were the happiest times I've had and look back with fond memories x
+Freddy Lowe Freddy, that is wonderful to hear! Perhaps one day, you might go on to do something equally as magic? I do hope so. It's great to hear it made an impact on someone. I think it's played an important part on firing up imaginations around the world. C S Lewis was an amazingly creative writer.
well aslan is real but its actually a real loin that dous'nt talk a man talks for the ror they record a real loins ror which is alans ror and then play it when its the part
Its great how much effort went into the puppet. And heart warming to see the pride of all involved. No pun intended. The way it’s eyes move give it a great feeling of life.
Oh, this is wonderful. I would die if I had a chance to stand next to this Aslan puppet. The CGI Aslan was fine, but considering the time the BBC version was made (and its budget, I suppose), this was innovative and superb. The only thing I ever found “wrong” with this puppet was the clunky way that Aslan walked, but with practical effects, you do what you can, and you often can’t have everything.
i recorded this segment myself on video back in the 1980s,it was uneal then,as is now,one of the best lion costumes to be made,it must have been fun to wear it!
I watched Blue Peter devotedly for a number of years as a kid (and also loved The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe). Of all the things I saw on Blue Peter this is the one I remember most clearly. Well, this and the words 'sticky-backed plastic'.
It moves so realistic. I know someone's standing somewhere with a remote, but yeah. Still forget for a second that it's not an actual character up there nuzzling the people.
CG Aslan looks too unnerving with the moving lips. The puppet's approach of just slowly moving the mouth isn't perfect, but it's not in the uncanny valley.
You think cgi mouths on real animals are unnerving? Its better than crappy puppetry or having to listen to their inner monologue. Ever seen or read frank herbert and david lynch's version of dune? The whole film and book is filled of inner monologues. It can be confusing when the films narrator comes in and you wonder who's thoughts are you hearing. Same with anime. So get used to cgi a mouths on animals.
paul hunter Animatronics is still used a LOT!!. It enables the actors to be actually there with the characters.. rather than having to 'guestimate' at a spot and interact with it.
We did a production of Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe at Primary School (and The Wizard Of Oz) and two friends (twins) played Lucy (and Dorothy) in both productions.....they went on to be in HollyOaks
I saw this as a child on BP and was very upset seeing a person popping out of his body to say "hi!" yet you want to see how he is operated at the same time.
That puppet was soooo gorgeous! By today's standards it still looks gorgeous!
I thought the puppet was real
I’d rather have the other Aslan in the new films
@@createmakeandplay7008 I wouldn't
I know right
I agree, i saw this one first and I always thought he looks so soft and gentle!!
The Narnia books and movies have always had a special place in my heart. God bless C.S Lewis for creating such a masterpiece.
Groundhog Day is a great movie tooo..... ;-)

+Sapurina omg me to, i want to hug him by his head so i can feel his furry mane
I think it could of gone on auction by the BBC or they kept it.
I second that! ;)
"Mom, Christmas is coming up. Can I have a full-sized Aslan please?" :)
Same👏🏻🦁
hahahah I swear I just ask it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wanted to say the same but then with a dutch holiday called sinterklaas XD and except for my mom my dad lol
What Is Your Worldview? - Creation or Evolutionism? NO KIDDING!! JUST YESTERDAY, I ASKED MY MOTHER FOR A LIFE SIZED ASLAN!!!!
Nice copy and pasted comment, dummy, lol.
I worked on this years ago. It's lovely to see such wonderful comments, and great to see it and remember happy days x

Thank you!
The Aslan puppet is so realistic.
The feet look like a stuffed animal
And is so bigger
Looks fake as f*ck
Even though it is so clearly fake, it's mannerisms make it look very real... Lovely!
*even more better than The Lion King remake*
you can keep CGI......... there is nothing more magical than practical effects.
Darren Curtis-Small the movies used a practical lion as well
yup. unless the cgi was very realistic and convincing.
DITTO
The actors reacted to it more believably too
So glad to see so many others think this is way better than the CGI version (less mobility notwithstanding). I always wanted to hug him too!!
Man: "...But Aslan isn't real."
Me: *"WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME?!?"*
GENIUS
well aslan is real but its actually a real loin that dous'nt talk a man talks for the ror they record a real loins ror which is alans ror and then play it when its the part
Khalid Amin What?? I had no idea😲
The character of Aslan is inspired by Jesus Christ(because Aslan is Turkish for Jesus).
Marie Libby Ryan Yes the whole book is a metaphor for Jesus and the devil
funny how he was stroking it like it was a real lion
I'm 40 and still a bit obsessed with this Aslan. He is absolutely beautiful.
"Mum, Christmas is coming up can I have a full sized Aslan please?" :)
This Puppet alone carried the entire Serial
I'm familiar with the original BBC series, and I still think Aslan looks pretty freaking realistic. Even after all these years
Encapsulated it for me. Such kind eyes.
I still say, for not having CGI, that costume is completely awesome. I always wanted to hug him when I was little, lol
as a child I was in love with Aslan. He was so beautiful to me, and the voice too just fit so well.
The puppet has a charm that the CGI version just doesn't have
Its great how much effort went into the puppet. And heart warming to see the pride of all involved. No pun intended. The way it’s eyes move give it a great feeling of life.
Animatronic is (was) better than 3d rendered models. They did awesome job for bbc Narnia with the lion :)
4.26; Nearly had a heart attack at what I now realize is an arm!
itkapatanka I recon he did that on purpose 😂
4:26
I always thought this version of Aslan was adorable. :) Thanks so much for posting this!
Love the BBC version so much more than the newer Hollywood version.
Oh the REAL Aslan :-D I love this one! Such great work! I wanted to hug him too when I was little. So much better and more charming the CGI!
I like how he keeps petting the lion as if its real.
I realized Aslan means Lion in Turkish.
i prefer this aslan above the new one because of al the hard work they put into this beutiful creature
Oh, this is wonderful. I would die if I had a chance to stand next to this Aslan puppet. It emotes more than the Lion King remake
yes
Wonderful ! Magnificient !
Ah me childhood. I remember this well. Thanks for uploading. :)
i recorded this segment myself on video back in the 1980s,it was uneal then,as is now,one of the best lion costumes to be made,it must have been fun to wear it!
Ahh he's so cute!! He's better than that CGI version I love the puppets or robots^^

Well, this and the words 'sticky-backed plastic'.

evil lion puppet
i want to have this tomorrow
My childhood dream was to hug him 😭😭😭
I also really want to pet his head...❤❤❤❤he really is so beautiful...they made a good job by making the puppet
Childhood memory 🥺💗👉🇵🇰😭
Aslan is so cute
i remember watching this when it was first broadcast, love to have been able to see it for real
i love aslan very much
00:38 I see a dog
Valerie Jones me too
It would have been cool to see this lion at comic conventions
I will do everything to get Aslan in my house! 🤩😍❤️

I WANT TO HUG HIM!!!😭😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤
Oh hes so dreamy and cuddley i love him
@Krees82 unfortunately it was probably forgotten in the bbc's prop or costume store which is a shame if it did.
That's really clever! Its great what these people can do! Aslan looks great!
I like how they brush the lion as if it was real.
I want him , he is so beautiful. ♥️♥️❤❤♥️
It's so cool! I need one like right now
he is the best
as a kid I always wanted to meet this Aslan
I remember watching part of this when I was at primary school, if they could do this then imagine what they can do now
they wouldnt do this now
paul hunter Animatronics is still used a LOT!!. It enables the actors to be actually there with the characters.. rather than having to 'guestimate' at a spot and interact with it.
Oh that is _so cool!_
Amazing
Good Boy, Aslan, don't eat them! lol
"never forget to wipe your sword" yeah, I won't forget
It looks so real!!!!! I always wanted to know how they made Aslan lol
What a work of art!
This was so good that when I was younger I actually thought it was a real lion!
Amazing....ot really signifies a very hard work..than the special effects made by the computer.
We did a production of Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe at Primary School (and The Wizard Of Oz) and two friends (twins) played Lucy (and Dorothy) in both productions.....they went on to be in HollyOaks
Omg I feel so bad for those people stuck inside!! I dont know how they can remain bent down for so long!
Wow. That is amazing
I would love to talk to a lion puppet... so beautiful
Does he do birthday parties?
This Aslan is great. Love The scenes when Aslan comes out of the wall. Like in Silverchair and Caspian BBC series. I love CGI one too
Astounding!
I actually met Alisa Berk 5 years ago at London Film and Comic Con in October 2013
Awesome!
Aslan's giving birth!!!
I LOVE ASIAN - NARNIA 👈🎬🎥❤👍
i've been a fan of the chronicles of narnia since i first watched it back in 2003
I want one!!!!!!!!😍🐾👍💞
Watched this live😊
I saw this as a child on BP and was very upset seeing a person popping out of his body to say "hi!" yet you want to see how he is operated at the same time.
Great work !!!
I'd want a buddy and me to "borrow" this costume and wear it to the premiere of that The Lion King remake and prank everyone *XD*
I love the TV series me great to see how they did films where really good. Love aslan
Please can I have an aslan doll ?! This is so amazing!!
WOW!
@echelonslostangel No its was propably kept by the maker.
Hope I can suit into this puppet! This puppet is amazing!
The ending is creepy
Always remember to wipe your “sword”
So much more realistic then the cgi version I loved this version
We all wanted hug aslan!
Très très beau
Bravo magnifique
Was this the one they used in the movies or did they do cgi? The one in the second movie prince caspian looked less life like then the first.
Genna Howard dude this was from like the 80s
This lion was used in the British series in the late 80s I think the 2005 movies onwards were all cgi I think with some proms I think
I love this part 3:30
I love the part @ 5:42
Yeah that is cute
My youtube picture is Aslan!!!
CS Lewis chose the name, as directly meaning LION but using another language in order to create a character name.
Does anyone know whatever happened to the costume?
XD the voice actor XD I was not expecting that XD
Ronald Pickup doesn't sound anything like Liam Neeson, lol. But this was the Aslan I grew up with before the theatrical film came out
I would kiss that Lion's nose couse it so cute and from my favorite movie as a kid
I saw the movie at school
