I wonder what they did with Aslan since they filmed this? It is my life's ambition to meet and give a big fat hug to this robotic lion. Only then will I feel my life has been fulfilled!
drseafrog Oh I hear ya, I'm a lifetime cat lover, but it was only domestic cats I really had a heart for until I read the Chronicles of Narnia. Then I fell in love with _all_ cats, including wild ones. Oh man, the feeling I was stepping into another world!
Same thing with me +peter kuzemchak I love narnia. I even drew a huge picture of the Narnia title by hand by looking at a pic on my phone it turned out P-E-R-F-E-C-T i got all the points and everything correct there making a new narnia coming out in 2018 The Silver Chair the thing is they done know if the same actors will come back i hope they do cuz it wouldn't be the same without them and its sad there all grown up Narnia4Life
Btw Aslan represents Jesus and the witch represents Satan like when she killed him in The lion,Wardrobe and the witch narnia and he rose again and the table broke in half like it says in the bible that the earth split In half when Jesus rose again
well aslan is real but its actually a real loin that dous'nt talk a man talks for the ror they record a real loins ror which is alans ror and then play it when its the part
Helen Hancock i grew up watching BBC Narnia, it has a special place in my heart ^^. I'd love to hear what involvement you had and what it was like working on Narnia :)
I am only 11 so I grew up in an environment where the new Disney films were more in fashion and more popular. However, the moment I saw the BBC version, I read all the books and now Narnia books and Narnia BBC all have a special place in my heart!
+Greg Richardson Hi Greg, I worked for the Producer, Paul Stone. I was involved in the administrative side of the production - there were so many people on this - it took up a huge portion of the BBC's budget at the time! Paul helped me further my career after that - I became a Studio Manager and have now written my first film. He was the best boss anyone could work for. A real gentleman and was kind and supportive to everyone. These were the happiest times I've had and look back with fond memories x
+Freddy Lowe Freddy, that is wonderful to hear! Perhaps one day, you might go on to do something equally as magic? I do hope so. It's great to hear it made an impact on someone. I think it's played an important part on firing up imaginations around the world. C S Lewis was an amazingly creative writer.
CG Aslan looks too unnerving with the moving lips. The puppet's approach of just slowly moving the mouth isn't perfect, but it's not in the uncanny valley.
You think cgi mouths on real animals are unnerving? Its better than crappy puppetry or having to listen to their inner monologue. Ever seen or read frank herbert and david lynch's version of dune? The whole film and book is filled of inner monologues. It can be confusing when the films narrator comes in and you wonder who's thoughts are you hearing. Same with anime. So get used to cgi a mouths on animals.
It moves so realistic. I know someone's standing somewhere with a remote, but yeah. Still forget for a second that it's not an actual character up there nuzzling the people.
Oh, this is wonderful. I would die if I had a chance to stand next to this Aslan puppet. The CGI Aslan was fine, but considering the time the BBC version was made (and its budget, I suppose), this was innovative and superb. The only thing I ever found “wrong” with this puppet was the clunky way that Aslan walked, but with practical effects, you do what you can, and you often can’t have everything.
i recorded this segment myself on video back in the 1980s,it was uneal then,as is now,one of the best lion costumes to be made,it must have been fun to wear it!
Its great how much effort went into the puppet. And heart warming to see the pride of all involved. No pun intended. The way it’s eyes move give it a great feeling of life.
paul hunter Animatronics is still used a LOT!!. It enables the actors to be actually there with the characters.. rather than having to 'guestimate' at a spot and interact with it.
Animatronic Aslan kicks CGI Aslan's ass. Obviously, the miniseries was made with a low budget, even by BBC standards, so I can only imagine if BBC had the resources to provide 80s Indiana Jones money for this how the effects would have turned out. In some shots, it's clear Aslan isn't a real lion, especially when he has to walk somewhere, but again, better than CGI Aslan. If BBC and Wonderworks had worked with Industrial Light and Magic in 1988 and 89 on this, it would have looked perfect, even today. I connected with this Aslan. I don't with CGI Aslan, and I like Liam Neeson as an actor. For me, he was a decent choice for Aslan's voice. I just can't get past the effects. And I don't hate CGI. They worked well in some early 90s movies like Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park, but that's because they used practical effects in combination with CG. Now, they don't even bother and the effects in modern movies look lazy. Nobody cares about convincing you that what you're seeing is real anymore. Again, the effects here are dated, but I'm sure if you added a touch of CG around the edges, you could make this look perfect. Or better yet, get George Lucas' effects studio c. 1988 to redo the effects. There's a reason Spaceballs looked so good for a 1987 parody.
We did a production of Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe at Primary School (and The Wizard Of Oz) and two friends (twins) played Lucy (and Dorothy) in both productions.....they went on to be in HollyOaks

+Sapurina omg me to, i want to hug him by his head so i can feel his furry mane
I think it could of gone on auction by the BBC or they kept it.
I second that! ;)
i prefer this aslan above the new one because of al the hard work they put into this beutiful creature
Omg I feel so bad for those people stuck inside!! I dont know how they can remain bent down for so long!
Does he do birthday parties?
Cuteeeee
wait this isn't for the films?
BBC budget... Went to Longleat. They could have gone by coach...
I wanna ride it
is that real?
That puppet was soooo gorgeous! By today's standards it still looks gorgeous!
I thought the puppet was real
I’d rather have the other Aslan in the new films
@@createmakeandplay7008 I wouldn't
I know right
I agree, i saw this one first and I always thought he looks so soft and gentle!!
The Narnia books and movies have always had a special place in my heart. God bless C.S Lewis for creating such a masterpiece.
Groundhog Day is a great movie tooo..... ;-)
Ikr

you can keep CGI......... there is nothing more magical than practical effects.
Darren Curtis-Small the movies used a practical lion as well
yup. unless the cgi was very realistic and convincing.
DITTO
The actors reacted to it more believably too
The Aslan puppet is so realistic.
The feet look like a stuffed animal
And is so bigger
Looks fake as f*ck
Man: "...But Aslan isn't real."
Me: *"WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME?!?"*
GENIUS
well aslan is real but its actually a real loin that dous'nt talk a man talks for the ror they record a real loins ror which is alans ror and then play it when its the part
Khalid Amin What?? I had no idea😲
The character of Aslan is inspired by Jesus Christ(because Aslan is Turkish for Jesus).
Marie Libby Ryan Yes the whole book is a metaphor for Jesus and the devil
Even though it is so clearly fake, it's mannerisms make it look very real... Lovely!
*even more better than The Lion King remake*
"Mom, Christmas is coming up. Can I have a full-sized Aslan please?" :)
Same👏🏻🦁
hahahah I swear I just ask it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wanted to say the same but then with a dutch holiday called sinterklaas XD and except for my mom my dad lol
What Is Your Worldview? - Creation or Evolutionism? NO KIDDING!! JUST YESTERDAY, I ASKED MY MOTHER FOR A LIFE SIZED ASLAN!!!!
Nice copy and pasted comment, dummy, lol.
funny how he was stroking it like it was a real lion
I worked on this years ago. It's lovely to see such wonderful comments, and great to see it and remember happy days x

Thank you!
Animatronic is (was) better than 3d rendered models. They did awesome job for bbc Narnia with the lion :)
4.26; Nearly had a heart attack at what I now realize is an arm!
itkapatanka I recon he did that on purpose 😂
4:26
I'm familiar with the original BBC series, and I still think Aslan looks pretty freaking realistic. Even after all these years
I realized Aslan means Lion in Turkish.
The puppet has a charm that the CGI version just doesn't have
"Mum, Christmas is coming up can I have a full sized Aslan please?" :)
So glad to see so many others think this is way better than the CGI version (less mobility notwithstanding). I always wanted to hug him too!!
00:38 I see a dog
Valerie Jones me too
I like how he keeps petting the lion as if its real.
Ahh he's so cute!! He's better than that CGI version I love the puppets or robots^^
It emotes more than the Lion King remake
yes
Love the BBC version so much more than the newer Hollywood version.
He's beautiful!
Encapsulated it for me. Such kind eyes.
I want him , he is so beautiful. ♥️♥️❤❤♥️
I like how they brush the lion as if it was real.
Good Boy, Aslan, don't eat them! lol
I'm 40 and still a bit obsessed with this Aslan. He is absolutely beautiful.
I still say, for not having CGI, that costume is completely awesome. I always wanted to hug him when I was little, lol
It would have been cool to see this lion at comic conventions
I will do everything to get Aslan in my house! 🤩😍❤️
I WANT TO HUG HIM!!!😭😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤
It moves so realistic. I know someone's standing somewhere with a remote, but yeah. Still forget for a second that it's not an actual character up there nuzzling the people.
Oh the REAL Aslan :-D I love this one! Such great work! I wanted to hug him too when I was little. So much better and more charming the CGI!
Oh, this is wonderful. I would die if I had a chance to stand next to this Aslan puppet. Practical effects are typically superior to CGI. Modern cinema has turned to crap in part to an OVERreliance on CGI.
as a child I was in love with Aslan. He was so beautiful to me, and the voice too just fit so well.
I wish I could have the lion XD
@Krees82 unfortunately it was probably forgotten in the bbc's prop or costume store which is a shame if it did.
The ending is creepy
Always remember to wipe your “sword”
I always thought this version of Aslan was adorable. :) Thanks so much for posting this!
Lmao their still petting it.
i recorded this segment myself on video back in the 1980s,it was uneal then,as is now,one of the best lion costumes to be made,it must have been fun to wear it!
My youtube picture is Aslan!!!
Please can I have an aslan doll ?! This is so amazing!!
Its great how much effort went into the puppet. And heart warming to see the pride of all involved. No pun intended. The way it’s eyes move give it a great feeling of life.
Oh that is _so cool!_
cool
I also really want to pet his head...❤❤❤❤he really is so beautiful...they made a good job by making the puppet
I LOVE ASIAN - NARNIA 👈🎬🎥❤👍
cool
It's so cool! I need one like right now
I want one!!!!!!!!😍🐾👍💞
I remember watching part of this when I was at primary school, if they could do this then imagine what they can do now
they wouldnt do this now
paul hunter Animatronics is still used a LOT!!. It enables the actors to be actually there with the characters.. rather than having to 'guestimate' at a spot and interact with it.
i wanna pet aslan lol
hes not a tame lion.
I would love to talk to a lion puppet... so beautiful

i want to have this tomorrow
I thought this was from the proper marina films but it's really not😒
Wait it's a puppet!? Not a man in a suit!?
I saw the movie at school
I want to be the lion

"never forget to wipe your sword" yeah, I won't forget
GIVE ME A ASLAN PLS 😍😍
aww cute
he is the best
We did a production of Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe at Primary School (and The Wizard Of Oz) and two friends (twins) played Lucy (and Dorothy) in both productions.....they went on to be in HollyOaks
CS Lewis chose the name, as directly meaning LION but using another language in order to create a character name.
Oh hes so dreamy and cuddley i love him
It looks so real I too thought this was a real lion...childhood ruined.
Awesome!
Wow. That is amazing
I love the TV series me great to see how they did films where really good. Love aslan
