I always learn so much from these videos. Kinda comforting to see someone with so much experience still “get behind the airplane” sometimes.
Also, I love the longer videos but would be happy with anything.
Hey Tom. Fancy seeing you here, the overlap between aviation and photography is strong.
The attention to detail is what built your channel IMO, so definitely appreciate the shorter more detailed versions in a series. The longer format is ideal for the scenic flights - you just don't wanna stop watching those! Thanks for putting yourself out there with the good and the learning opportunities.
I think this is a great answer. The general answer throughout is “both” haha. But I agree - for scenic views, let the beauty do the talking. For drills at the home base in Texas, I like the details!
The details is what got me to subscribe, I fly a bonanza v-tail with steam gauges and planning to do the full conversion to glass like what you did. I trained on G1000 when it was brand new and have been working at converting. I love all your videos so what ever you do I’ll still be a fan. Blue skies and tail winds, thanks for sharing
I like the longer videos and it really shows what it is to be a licensed pilot.
Both types of videos, PLEASE ! The full flights are very enjoyable, and the brief videos with more attention to the finer details are much appreciated. THANK YOU for all you do, Fly ON !
Variety is the spice of life!
I love the raw and not too edited. I learn so much from your decision-making process in some of the challenging conditions.
As an instrument student, I enjoy all the details to help me learn. I like the longer videos personally. Please keep up the great job and am looking forward to your journey videos. Thank you.
Great stuff Josh. 15 minute detailed videos seem to be the sweet spot for me.
I really like the long form factor videos that leave all the little details in or just the casual flying around. Being able to learn and also enjoy the trip as it happens is what I prefer personally.
More details please! Always enjoy your fantastic videos Josh. Thank you so much for your passion, skill, enthusiasm and sharing those with us.
Hi Josh. The longer videos really help i nbringing out the complexities of IFR. Helps me when I'm reviewing procedures. Thanks for all the effort you put into them.
I’m currently in instrument training and this video was very informative!
I love the longer videos! Much more natural, and helps to see your workflow beginning to end.
Some excellent flying. Thanks for sharing it with us. Great father/son time.
I’m very excited for the next series! I love learning about new places to fly through RUclips videos.
I really like the detailed videos about the Garmin avionics and software doing instrument work, I learn a lot even as a CFI myself. This technology is still so new and there’s a lot of very cool features to learn about that when used correctly can really help with Pilot workload and increased situational awareness. However as you demonstrated you can also get very behind quickly with a simple mistake.
Thanks for the great video Josh!
So glad to see both you and your Dad flying together and practicing ILS. Stay safe, stay proficient! You'll have memories of this time spent with your Dad for a lifetime.
Love all the video formats you do. Great job on getting caught back up to the plane.
I like the detailed shorter vids - the detail in this one is fantastic - I got the pressure and the cause which is extremely helpful and both emphasizes the importance of preparation while encouraging me that IFR is also amazingly cool!!
I appreciate all of your videos , thank you !
Great video as usual. Since you asked, I would prefer several short videos showing the details. Your videos, showing the details of flying the plane, inputting the info into navigation, radios, etc., was what got my attention and is why I have continued following you. Your checklist discipline is a reminder of the importance of avoiding mistakes. In a fast-paced flying environment, it is easy to forget or overlook something that could be a serious problem. Keep up the good work and we are all watching...
Great lesson Josh. It's great to watch you two acclimate to the new panel (Very clean). I think the short form content is good for focused presentation of procedures and basic instruction. The long form can be effective for flow through different scenarios, IFR, Mountain flying etc.. And both for sharing fun aviation moments in the air and on the ground at cool destinations.
This length and detail was great, thanks.
Great video Josh, love the longer flying videos mainly.... it's more realistic from my perspective. Thanks for going through all the work to do these friend!
I'm a big fan of the raw videos, and longer is OK. In the vast majority of cases, I end up watching the whole thing. For me, the major selling point of this channel is listening to you talk through every situation. The little details add to the experience, and I love that you go over the things you did well and areas where you could have done better. Terrific content!
Love the high-grain detail videos. I think your protracted adventure series lend a nice balance to the nitty-gritty type. Whatever you do, the content is great, so thank you for creating it.
I absolutely love the more detailed videos! Just keep them coming! Great video!
Thanks Dad and Josh for the video. I'm too old to acquire the real thing . I do sim fly often and I'm learning from you new challenges to try while always enjoying your videos. I prefer the longer videos. Thanks for all that you guys do.👍
Love the detail, love the Detail, any length. Thanks for posting.
Love the longer videos!!!! Wish you would answer comments from us asking questions about your videos!
I like them all. Both the long flights and instructional type videos keep it interesting, fun, and educational. Thank you.
Excellent video as usual. Can't wait to see your next trip!
Another brilliant film, a mixture sometimes longer and some shorter are fine fine for me.
Always a great watch, regards, Chris from UK.
Josh, i much prefer the detail in your videos as this helps me learn. I have been following you for years. But just because you have details doesn’t mean that you cannot have a longer video with some scenery blended in with it. The short videos tend to have so much information coming so fast its hard to absorb all of what’s going on! Thanks for what you do and continue to be safe.
A great video, with something for ALL Pilots to always remember. No matter what, is so very easy to get behind the plane at any time. It all gets summed up in two words, "Situational Awareness".
3-4 part series is better for the viewers probably. And gives anticipation of the next vid. Also allows you to put out more content for the same amount of filming.
Seems like a win/win.
p.s. one word of caution would be to insure that the content is enjoyable enough to warrant a multi part series.
I really enjoy the details, especially the little details within the G3X.
Keep doing what you’re doing. Very enjoyable and educational. Thanks!
It's nice the way you do it. The the variety of your videos is what makes your channel so good.
Fantastic video. My favorite part is that you get to share this with your Dad. Priceless time together. Safe travels😄👍
3-4 videos with details are much better for my own learning. Thanks Josh!
Amazing work. I like both approaches, no pun intended. We learn from 'deep dives' and quick snips... Don't care what you decide. I'll watch. Hope our journeys cross soon. Fly safe!
Great video and demonstration of how busy IFR flying can get. You seem very fluent in the use of the avionics, you are quick, and know what to do. To try to avoid being over tasked, I always set up as much as possible long in advance. Items like getting the ATIS, coming up with a plan, setting up radios and avionics, briefing the plan, etc., help tremendously. Even if I don’t know which approach I will get, I will take my best guess and set that one up, brief it up, and be ready. If ATC changes to a different approach, then you are no worse off than if you hadn’t done anything to prepare. Also, I know you were in practice mode and hand flying, but in the real world, using the automation allows you to divide your attention a little more so you can focus on the set up and avionics. Once caught up, you can always go back to hand flying.
Josh, great content. I'm a retired NetJets pilot, and it's unique to see a panel like we had in the jets, installed in 991. I learned to fly on the often foggy, Northeast Coast - Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard... - and it was the typical 6-pack and needles in Pipers and various Cessna aircraft. Pretty much OEM. Then, it was off to the jet realm - PFD's, MFD - and what a difference. The fatigue factor was much lower. Much less eye movement, and better displayed info making a 10 or so hour day of flying less draining. If this modern tech existed back then, it would have been in there. The thing is though, after not having flown in a bit, if I did, I would feel more comfortable with the old 6-pack. It's simplicity was its genius. Everything there, albeit spread out in such a way to sometimes cause vertigo during one's scan...but yeah, those were the days for me...
Josh,
Keep doing what your doing, you always have variety!
Cheers,
Rik
I’m currently in the middle of instrument training. This style video is very helpful. Definitely like the extra details!
Love all the details. I do not mind the longer videos!
I like the videos as they are. Loving your stuff.
Very excited to see more videos. I've always love seeing your content. I think this video exemplifies no matter your experience, flying is a perishable skill.
Josh, I think your full video's, put out so much information. Anything that is missed , comes out later in the video. so I'd say short ones would cause you to miss something. Thanks for your time.
Good video. Glad you left in the learning experiences with good evaluation.
Nice Job. This was my first tIme seeing you. I just finished upgrading my B36 Bonanza. 2 Garmin 275's and Garmin 500 auto pilot and a 750. I am a 13,000 hr. pilot mostly in Bonanzas and Barons with steam gages and a KFC200 AP. What a difference. I am only at my 12th flight with the new panel, but thanks to videos like yours it is all coming together very fast. Oh ya, thanks to Tony Ferrari ( good friend and instructor.)
Super great source of learning from your experience, patients to film and edit, then post for us to learn from. Thank you so much! Yes, I think/vote for 4 X 10 minute videos to show the difference rather that 1 30 minute flight.
Please keep including all of your checklist run throughs in your videos. I love the little details!
I like the details. Helps me learn.
I personally like the 30 min long videos on this kind of videos. Gives the viewer the impression they are really part of the flight completely.
I also want to note the amount of improvement your dad has shown over the years on IFR flying through your videos. On this series he really looked and flew like a Pro IFR pilot including showing good CRM skills on this video by helping write down the missed approach instructions when you were busy hand flying. Great job overall!!
Hi love it very real. The more details the better, I don't mind how long the video is. Can not wait for the upcoming trips. All the best bfn
Great vlog, loved all the details of this 14 min. vlog, I would like the 10 min. short mini series of the day flying.
Just love your flying and your videography. Hoping one day I'll fly ILS's with your confidence. I request 10 min in-depth videos with all the details in there. Thanks as always!
Enjoyed the technical density of this vid as a variation from the traditional. Keep mixing it up!
That panel looks amazing 👍
This is great as presented and I'm happy with long or short. 3 or 4 short ones with each focusing on a segment of the flight would be great also! Thanks for this excellent resource.
Great videos in both formats. As a Instrument rated pilot it is good reminders to stay current. Very easy to get complacent.
Good video. Great to do flying with your dad! One can get task saturated with all your new glass. Back in my early days, I flew the 172 , bonanzas and Barons with the old six pack and NO autopilot. That got busy, as well. Keep practicing, Regards, Captain Dave (Eric and Valerie’s friend)
I enjoy both the long and short format. Seems like you do a good mix of both.
Thanks for the video. I like the way you did this video!
Regards Josh👍. Your videos are very informative. Fantastic avionics upgrade and seems better resolution than G1000 -keep up your good work and happy flying😊
30 minutes with detail is my preference. Great video. Thanks!
I like the videos that are shorter but have more detail about the different aspects of flight. Currently working on the IFR rating and these are great!
Watching in Fiji I think the longer versions provide great views and pretty much a whole a view start to finish of all the things that pilots in GA go through and what others can relate to
Shorter videos are best. Love the panel, exactly what I put in the RV-8A and it's finally flying, so amazing. Love your channel Josh
To answer your question: both. I am an IFR pilot also flying a Skyhawk and I love the videos. I sit down and watch some of your longer content and completely digest it. The details are super interesting and relevant and I agree they provide great examples for pilots to study. At the same time I watched this one because it was only 15 minutes. And at times I really just don’t have the energy to sit down and digest that longer Content. So for what it’s worth, I like that you have both options on your channel. Sometimes having the shorter ones are really nice too. Keep up the good work
Excellent. Detail important. IFR TRAINING is tough
Josh, good stuff, as always, but you're the one that has to spend the time and effort recording, editing and producing these awesome vids so, really it's up to you... And although I do appreciate the detail side of things a bit more, I also enjoy your longer/fun flying vids. You create it, we'll watch it (just don't keep us hanging for too long between vids). Keep at it, brother!
Always the need to learn. Throw in the sights and humor as a bonus 😎. Great video ✌️
Great stuff. Getting the same setup as you have in my 182. Can’t do enough precision approaches for me. 👍
I prefer the longer format and I've really never thought you'd left much out I enjoy the videos thank you
Booming thermal on final. Nice Texas summer convection!
As an IFR Pilot I love the opportunity to learn! Thanks for the chance! Been with you since you started! Thanks from NJ!
Good vid. Fan o f the detail involved.
As always, what a great video. I love the new garmin panel. That's what aviation is nowadays and we need to use that technology that greatly increases our situational awareness.
I am currently working on my instrument rating (like many below) so the detailed videos would be my choice. It was awesome to watch after doing many approaches myself and seeing the points you work on and how that would help me in my training.
If you think back to your instrument training, you may have been taught about the PPP acronym. Perceive, Process and perform. I feel that applies to how you discovered you were getting behind the aircraft and thus a very good example of working through it. Nice work. As always, video quality is just out of this world! Thanks for sharing with us!
I love your videos, they are instrumental for me. I am in the edge to starting my process to get my private license and watching your videos allow me to have some concepts already feel natural and, though nothing is like the real deal, I love the opportunity to learn ahead of time if at all possible so, thank you very much for the effort of filming and producing all of your videos. If you ask me, I will watch either the 30 minutes with the 4 approaches or the 3 10 minutes videos, as long as we get more of this great content, is whatever makes more sense to you!
Awesome panel update ... all that's left is the O-360 upgrade and that airplane is perfect....
Shorter videos with more detail, more often please! Awesome channel, very informative and entertaining. Thank you.
I like the longer format when it comes to IFR flying tips and tricks.
Well, I'm torn, Josh. I do appreciate many of the longer videos. But I also like the details, especially as I "learn" the new glass with you. I'm sure you are torn as you move your mind between being a cinematographer and being a detail oriented pilot who likes to teach. I can see that those two drives would conflict at times. I've been following you for years, and some of your long AND detailed videos are what I cut my Aviation 101 teeth on. But I recognize that you, in your process of growing, expanding, and refining what you want to do with your channel, you will inevitably change what happens on the channel. I feel that I, like thousands of others, are not contemplating leaving the channel.
All that said, given the options of long but non-detailed versus shorter with good technical details, I'll vote for the details.
Thanks for all you do for GA! And long live AQP!
I agree with the "long AND detailed" comment.
I have to agree with most of the comments I read. I enjoy the longer, full (or at least, fuller) -flight videos, and they give me ideas for day or even weekend trips, but I get more out of the shorter concentrated videos. Watching you handle different situations adds another perspective to what I get from my CFI. I'm not suggesting it in any way replaces what I am learning from my CFI, but that added perspective provides more depth, and flight instruction is not one of those areas where too much knowledge is dangerous. So, thanks for both types.
i love the longer videos, definitely preferred
Procedures and details all day long, please. I follow you to learn the details and have been sucking up the info like a sponge. Thank you for all the content you provide, Josh! Great work!
Hey Josh and pops ! I think your video are well rounded with both time and information . I’d say these intense type videos… yeah maybe 2 or 3 videos so (we) can watch and rewatch specific sections quickly because we are always learning… but also, your “fun trips” and like your long XC trips - longer time lines are great too! So yeah - combo lengths are spot on brother.
Scott. KLZU
Detail is always appreciated.
IMHO, let them run, the longer the better. I always learn something, and I'm sure others do too. It could even qualify as an AQP, we all learn something together. Love how "niner niner one" turned out!! With the new yokes, panel, servos/rigging, motor, exhaust it's got to almost feel like a new one!! Thanks!! 8) --gary
I remember the first time, early in flight training, when I got badly behind the plane. Ironically, on a long straight-in approach. The instructor reasssured me "that's what I'm here for!"
We had a spectacular fall here in southern British Columbia. I flew enough that it was starting to get expensive...
That was AWESOME, and the way you did it was just right, No need to change anything, Love your panel. I have a G1000Nxi and it's not as cool as yours
I like the context provided by the long-form edits. Especially when it comes to instrument stuff which I absolutely love to geek out on. Videos are no substitute for seat time, of course. But I feel like it helps me stay proficient by keeping the procedures and knowledge fresh in my mind. I also like to add little tips and habits I learn from various aviation creators to augment my own routine. As an aside, could you discuss sometime the pros and cons of dropping in more flap on short final? When I was doing my instrument, my instructor trained me to set the flaps to 10 (also a 172) and never touch them again. He said he's not a fan of changing configuration on short final. And also said that if ceilings were low, adding more flaps could potentially balloon you back up into the clouds and cause you to lose visual. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it.
As always another great video. I do appreciate that when you mess up you own it and teach us what you could have done better! I personally would prefer shorter but more detailed instructions of your approaches, but whatever you decide that's fine, because I always enjoy your videos. Thanks!
Definitely keep all of the details and split into more videos if needed. That's one of the main reasons I love watching your videos.
These are great videos. I prefer the full length video rather than short clips. Thank You again.
Long format, please. Thank you for the great content!
Great job again Josh. I think your timing is just right for the 2 flights. If you had done 1 of each I don't think it would have captured the differences as well. Take care.
