I missed the boys too 😕 and i'm glad to know i'm not the only one who struggles to get my gingerbread to stay glued! when my kids were little (they're your age) we always made gingerbread creations. it started with graham crackers and as they got older were part of the planning and making. my favorite was when we made a castle. it was pretty elaborate, castellations, drawbridge and a moat of blue jello. the finishing touch was the perennial seated santa (he was on most of them), my son had him leaning over the edge with a dribble of frosting "barf" down the castle wall (just like a 10 year old boy)!
I kind of heard "You've been deserted" at the end and thought "yeah, fitting description" 🙈 Loved this episode, thank you JJR for sharing the experience with us! 🥰 Merry Christmas!
I know it was frustrating but it was also extremely entertaining to watch and the end result was so much fun. The 'boys' need to stay humble...you did wonderfully!
I like that we got to see that it’s not always as easy as the finished show made it look like. Next time the boys aren’t available just get the boyfriend to help you. He wants to eat treats? He’s gotta work for them occasionally. 🤷🏻♀️🤣

JJR, at least you gingerbread disaster was smallish. I worked on my Gingerbread house for a week off and on to have the roof fold on half because I should of added a internal support. Totally ruining my project I could not recover this time. Then my water heater blew up all over my apartment. I loved the idea of the smash cake. Might use it next December for my birthday. Love the smash box. You missed of the Karen Davies 'Winter Wreath Mould.' That was the large purple one. Whilst there are some Karen Davis moulds on Amazon USA I couldn't find this one so if you wanted it you would have to import it which is why Joshua has not listed it.

Ooo, adding chocolate chips to gingerbread sounds like a great idea. Although, I think adding chocolate chips to most things is great. (Definitely not eating low-carb cereal with added chocolate chips right now. My body doesn't like carbs for breakfast.) Is it weird filming by yourself? I see that it's difficult, but I feel awkward talking to inanimate objects. Nice to see things go wrong, too! I think it turned out awesome.
Hey JJR, way to keep it real. My kids and I love your shows, and I’ve been playing around making their birthday cakes extra fancy. My question is: when do you use gum paste flowers vs buttercream? Are there practical considerations or just aesthetic?
It came out great in the end. I think maybe it kept falling apart because the freeze-spray wasn't getting to the chocolate in between the gingerbread layers, just solidifying the chocolate on the outside? For good gingerbread houses, both traditional and more unusual and how-to advice, I recommend checking out Ann Reardon's channel How to Cook That. Some of her creations are truly astounding and, if you dare to try them yourself, she has the templates for them on her website.

Hey Joshua! Love the show!! Quick suggestion... next time you do gingerbread, use a pizza cutter to cut out your templates. It will help with no "pulling" the dough as it is cut. Also, using isomalt to hold your edges together sets faster and harder than chocolate! Happy Holidays! 😘
I don't think the problem is being alone, even though I miss the boys, too. I think the problem is using chocolate instead of caramel for gingerbread cement.
Cake Challenge for JJR: instead of gold, you have to you use silver or another metallic color. No gold allowed!!! (Also if you add too much metallic decoration, can you taste it?)
This video has the exact energy as when its 2am and you're bored so you decide to bake and end up going to bed at 5 in the morning

It’s really just asthetics. But the usually you use buttercream on buttercream cakes and gum paste on fondant cakes.

I did a cake with bronze, it was the steampunk wedding cake. And no, you can't really taste it!
