With Ryan's ruclips.net/user/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
I guess you would use piles to search for deeper ground that might be harder. Would it be a common solution or does digging deeper solve the problem anyway?
@@DrawingTechnical digging deep enough you will reach more solid rock. there is "bindig". and "night bindiger" (I know them in German because I am an in construction in Germany. unfortunately I don't know all the English technical terms, and sometimes concepts that exist here don't even have an equivalent in America.) ground types I don't know the exact English translation, but the difference is that one will absorb water like clay or silt. Nicht bindiger ground is like gravel or rocks. the pores are larger and don't absorb water. If you dig deep enough, you will reach better surface, or you just remove a certain amount of dirt ( I don't remember the exact codes). then you replace that dirt that absorbs water with gravel and sand so the foundation doesn't sink.
We are so used to looking at construction progress photos, but watching a construction progress video is so much better! If only every site could do this, we would be able to produce amazing construction records for evidence and dispute resolution. Thanks for sharing.
12 inches for a foundation, that’s a garden wall in the uk 3ft minimum even more with trees, nice to see exceeding code in my experience inspectors always appreciate a builder who does that
Mark Clinton thanks for the comment... no need to dig deeper here... the site is notched into the side of a mountian, so we are already 20 ft below the original top soil. Also we are far south, the ground never freezes more than 2 inches. We are all about going above and beyond code as well for things that will make a difference.
Wow, i do Masonry foundation work in Michigan, where the depth for a foundation to be below the frost line isn't 12", it's 42".....you guys have it a lot easier in that department! This is my first comment, but I really enjoy you're guy's videos. I've been in masonry my whole life, my father is a mason-by-trade, and it's really cool to get a broader perspective from you guys in building. Especially all the carpenter tricks you guys have. Keep on keeping on guys!
I love building so much but I’m not a contractor so and I’ve obviously never built a house start to finish although I’ve done a ton of framing. Genuinely thrilled that I found your page.
Absolutely love everything you guys are doing. Best of luck to your brother as he adjusts to a new normal, too. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
My family owns a house thats eventually going to be transferred to me. I was just gonna move out, but my cat died reccently. We burried my baby boy in the backyard and made him a garden of stella flowers. I can never move now. So I've decided I'm gonna build a tiny house in the backyard, classfied as a two story shed to avoid having to go through the hassle of licensing and stuff. So, I'm super excited to go through this journey!
Excellent floor plan, really like the loft. Everything you need in a compact space. I've been drafting a similar plan, basement instead of a loft though.
Cane, you will never get rid of it. It has the worst root system there is. It will keep popping up until about the middle of June. You can easily cut down the new sprouts once a week. If you wait a month you will need to get the chain saw out. I would pick a new sight. Looking forward to the new build.
I’m 22 I want to build my own house someday so I figured nows the perfect time to start doing my research ☺️

here in the Netherlands we have to dig FAR more but that is because of our ground being really soft and it will sink if we don't.
I guess you would use piles to search for deeper ground that might be harder. Would it be a common solution or does digging deeper solve the problem anyway?

Occasionally make my draftsmen watch your videos. The code stuff is great & being able to see and understand what you draw is important.
Agree! Great idea for a series. Look forward to site planning. Tell Jaimie we say hi!
Awesome guy's Thanks for the New Content, Essential Craftsman has been doing this for quite awhile

Even 3 feet is nothing up here where I build in Canada! My current garage build is an 18" grade beam on 10 foot screw piles.
Liked it before I even watched
12" get you below frost line! It's always fun to be reminded of how different environments are. We need at least 4' to get below freeze up. lol
I have sm respect for builders 👏
Wow, just what I was looking for! The home is going to look amazing 👌👌👌
The 2 guys making everything half naked make this so much easier
While waiting 36th episode of building the farm house, i will watch this series all the way from the start.. . 😁
