Update: Shortly after publishing this review, we noticed the Orion X has gone back up to the original £3799 asking price. It was already far too steep at £3299, but with the price now closer to four thousands pounds (!), it is simply not worth considering without major improvements.

Likely the 4080 would cost them more than 250 bucks. I’d say closer to 400 as Nvidia don’t give companies massive reductions. But regardless this system at this price needs a 4090. Right now I’d struggle to recommend this at 2500. Never mind 3800

Dominic, I felt your pain - i like the appearance of it - its a very attractive mini PC, but the cost increase over a system using similar parts is literally 200%. I imagine you will get some very rich kids buying this - with limited hardware knowledge. Once I saw 4080, in a system at 3800, I just couldnt believe Acer marketing sent you this for a review thinking you would say it was a great buy.
Great analysis and honest results and conclusion!

It’s a beaut looking pc imo
However, I feel Acer needs to change the following:
    - swap the i9-13900KS for an i7-13700K. (Due to the bad motherboard vrm design and unable to get any performance benefits of the i9 cpu) and reduce the sales price further!
    - Swap the CL46 5600 DDR5 (garbage tier) for CL34/36 7200 DDR5 ram (minimal cost difference)
    - if Acer is going for 2x Gen3 x4 PCI Express 1TB SSDs ….. swap them for 2x 2TB Gen 3 x4 drives for actual good storage capacity for the price being charge as there’s minimal cost difference for the system price being charged!
In addition drop the price to £2,999 to make it a better competitor in the prebuilt market.

the AIO radiator "in and out" port position of the pump is perfect. that ensure the pump turbine chamber will always SUBMERGED no matter what. seeing the predator logo on the pump LED means that water cooling AIO made by acer? well, i would want to look for that. that pump I/O port is the correct position for any liquid pump engineering wise, should be positioned OVER the turbine chamber.

Nearly 4000 £?? No optical/digital out. The amount of USB ports is questinonable. Gen3 SSDs? really? The lack luster I/O combined with the basic systemlayout, does not recflect the asking price. On top of that, pairing the 13900KS with the formfactor/hardware seems to be not able to handle the heat load at all. So it makes no sense at all, to pair this cpu with the case/coolingsolution. Is it just to print big numbers/names on the box, and hope it sells itself? The price is way to high. Btw: Is the Ethernet 2.5 Gigabit? Also what WiFi standard is supported out of the box by the system? Thanks for the review.

No offense to acer but what an absolute shambles of a system. Massive tdp limit hampering performance. Terrible motherboard which could likely overheat VRMs. And a system price to put a 4090 system to shame. Gen 3 drives ? 😮
Shocking really. Stunned they sent this to Kitguru expecting all of this to be ignored. 🤓

That design is kind of silly, but the right amount of silly. Nice one. SSD isn't really mission critical. Sure, PCIe 4 would be preferable. But you won't notice it much.
I would probably prefer intel 13700 or even better - Ryzen 7800X3D, but whatever. The main problem though is the price point. It just slaps all reasoning in the face.
