Well Done! Always enjoy watching a Father pass on ANY knowledge to his Son. In this case, it certainly appeared the Son was receptive of instruction. WIN-WIN! Good Luck Sir! I have subscribed, and looking forward to more BOAT Maintenance and Instruction!
Great video & evens better having young fellas learning. How possible will be to list spark plugs & fuel filter part numbers? That will help to viewers & new owners like me to acquire most of the info from a great video like yours
Hello, your video is amazing, I have a OceanPro 150hp that always have issue starting when not in use for 2 weeks, on your video you did manual choke to start, I can not see it clearly on the video on where the manual choke is, can you please show me. Thank You
Hi, thanks for great video. I have the same engine and it's my first outboard that i don't have to premixed oil. just wonder what oil and how much do you keep it in the small tank (mine is half tank full) and do you prefer pre-mixed or just keep the way that manufactured ?
Thanks for the video Eddie!. Hey I have a 2005 Johnson (J90PLSOA) 2 stoke 90hp looks exactly the same. I'm new to having my own outboard, I want to replace the water pump pump can't figure out where to disconnect the shift shift rod. Thank you sir!
On the cable side of the shift linkage, there is a cotter pin. Pull the cotter pin and push the assembly to port side. Being in neutral seems to be easiest. It's easy once you do it once
Loving the videos ,I have a rinker with the same engine and leg as you .your videos have given me great confidence in tackling these jobs Please please keep these videos coming Please don't judge me ,but where is the inlet water strain!!
I have same engine. Ive just got it started for first time in two Years. Got it running for about 2 minutes at idle speed , Three times before it stopped. I had to wait about ten minutes between each run. The spark plugs and gasoline is new. Why does it stops?
Just got a 1989 Seaswirl Spyder 176 open bow with a 120 hp Johnson 2 stroke outboard. I can't find any manuals for this to figure out what parts to get for maintenance. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the video. I have recently purchased almost the same engine. Mine is not made for salt water, but it is essentially the same engine. It is a 2001 90 horse Johnson, model number J90PLSIF. I cannot find any of these engines with an external canister filter. Is yours fuel injected? I want to install a canister filter system so I can use water separator filters. Was your filter original equipment?
That’s how I bought the boat with the filter on it. I’m pretty sure it’s stock. but you could install it. even if it is fuel injection. Good luck. And thank you for your support
Hi Eddie. I have an engine identical to yours (2000 Johnson 90Hp) that doesn't want to run at all. First there was a problem at the CDI, only a spark arrived in one of the spark plugs. I replaced the CDI with a new one and now the spark arrives on the 4 spark plugs, there is gas and the engine won't start. Could you give me any tips?
same for i/o 5.0. seems like my impeller did not last. it is four years old and fresh water and little use. michigan winters and winterized =, i thought would last couple hundred hours of running... i am at less than 100.
I hate to be negative but I don’t consider it a “tune up” by just changing spark plugs and fuel filter. Your description is misleading. It should be “how to change spark plugs and fuel filter on an outboard ”. I was expecting tuning and adjusting carburetors and/or timing adjustment. Just saying. Good video though for what it is.
I painted it because, the paint was chipping off. I had the paint left over from my out drive. The Skeg doesn’t stay in the water. When it’s docked. So there’s no need to pain it. 🤙⚓️
why didnt you just tell him to keep the key pressed in while turning the key ? all the waiting while the key is pressed in does absolutely nothing. until lthe motor is turning the pump is not pressurising the solenoid to add extra fuel.. dont bother counting just press in and turn the key.... .. he now know how to take plugs out and put them back in..... its a good start ...
You are absolutely right. But!! When we bought the boat, the guy that sold it to us explained that is how he started it to my son. So we did it for a bit. But don’t anymore. Thanks
Another great video, Eddie. Glad to see things are going well for you and your son. Keep teaching him!!
Thank you. and thank you for your support. Stay safe. 😷
Like your videos. Awesome that you involved your son.

Great video, thank you very much. Greetings from Germany.
Great job teaching them young. I do the same with my son too. What is the ratio for the premix on them 90 Johnson?
Eddie's baaaaaack
Great stuff, Eddie!

I would rather have premix just in case you forget about the oil tank or something
How to change the oil and what kind of oil?
Thanks for the video Eddie!. Hey I have a 2005 Johnson (J90PLSOA) 2 stoke 90hp looks exactly the same. I'm new to having my own outboard, I want to replace the water pump pump can't figure out where to disconnect the shift shift rod. Thank you sir!

Do you have any idea about the oil? And how to change it?, because I do have the same motor but I got it without the manual.

Hahaha, it was killing all fathers watching you try to teach your kid to turn a wrench but we all had to start somewhere.

How do you tune up a 1988 johnson boat motor

I need an outboard motor mechanic in Los Angeles to change the timing belt on a Johnson 70hp.
Where you can get the parts for the engine I’m located in California and I don’t find any place where to sell parts
great videos. how long would you run an engine [5.0] on a garden hose w/o damaging the raw water pump impeller?
mr zif001 as long as the water coming out of the through hole. You can run it as long as you need to. Just keep and eye on the temperature gage
same for i/o 5.0. seems like my impeller did not last. it is four years old and fresh water and little use. michigan winters and winterized =, i thought would last couple hundred hours of running... i am at less than 100.

Can you use lock arm for traveling or use transom saver
Hi Eddie, is there a reason you painted the skeg of the lower unit?
I painted it because, the paint was chipping off. I had the paint left over from my out drive. The Skeg doesn’t stay in the water. When it’s docked. So there’s no need to pain it. 🤙⚓️

Pretty sad that in this day an age a kid that age doesn't know how to use a ratchet.
Well that would be up to a parent, to show them how to use it. 🤙⚓️
