Kaiserreich - German Empire Ep 22: State of Disunion - Hearts of Iron 4

Open hostilities are about to break out in the United States - yet another bastion of democracy is falling, and it's anyone's guess who will come out on top. Desperate times require desperate measures, so four lone German infantry divisions are sent to the southern USA to help General MacArthur regain control over the federal government, and hopefully restore some balance on the American continent.

I would strongly suggest focusing on the pacific states first. The HOI4 ai is notoriously bad at fighting two front wars. If you do not kill California the USA will effectively be crippled for the whole war, and you will not have enough divisions to fill in their mistakes.
The CSA is by far the most powerful of the civil war factions, as they control the industrial heartland. Even though the Union State is weak, and could conceivably be destroyed first, I really think you should let them live in order to give the CSA another roadblock so they do not have the option of turning their full strength against your own side.

That's a good point. I've started with the south, since that's pretty much where my divisions were dropped off, and it allows me to have an impact immediately, instead of railroading through the country for an extended period of time.
I might just destroy some divisions there and then head west - if they start shuffling divisions across the midwest instead of maintaining the lines, that could indeed go sideways quickly.

From memory you said you would support MacArthur’s faction, however I believe Huey Long’s American Union State is the most pro German faction.

That's true - I did take a peek at their focus tree, and they have an option (not guaranteed, since it's in a decision path) to join the Reichspakt. However, I have my "lore" reasons - I'll be doing an intro section before the next episode to elaborate.
