Whatever the reasons are , those times seem too cruel to handle a big kingdom, if someone tells a king is too polite and kind it's a worst kind of propaganda, if he's cruel and merciless yet spiritual then these should be considered as qualities of emperor made on Indian lines

There is no substantial evidence that ashoka killed 99 brothers. It is an exaggeration, taken from a random buddhist text that sang over praise of him.
Ashoka conquered via force but ruled by dhamma or dharam. He is known for his benevolence.
Although I agree the adjectives like "great" attached to any king from the past, be it Ashoka or Alexander, doesn't suit our modern democratic thought process.
EVERY KING BEFORE THE ADVENT OF MODERN NATION STATE WITH DEMOCRACY WAS A DICTATOR.
Every human who believes in democratic values should not call any king 'GREAT' or Mahan or whatever.

Why did he killed numerous ajivikas and jains being a Buddhist ....

@@technoyamraj the source of this information may have been from Ashokavadana - written by unknown authors - and incidents mentioned there are half history and half fiction.
Most scholars in India believe that it was a propaganda text made by Buddhist as a result of rivalry in between different sects.
There are many inscriptions like Barbara caves which mentiones extensive amount of donations made by Asoka to Aajivikas and jains.
