    Print emulation was indeed the only thing missing to get the actual Hollywood look. I now consider Dehancer complete. Although more print emulations would be lovely too, like Fuji's, or older Kodaks, and why not, Technicolor (the holy grail of things that people trying to emulate).

      What is this print emulation as addition to the regular emulation? Is it like a kind of layer?

    • @EugeniaLoli
      @EugeniaLoli 2 года назад +3

      @@mativie Yes, it's what gives it the authentic released-movie look. Films when get to the cinema, they are printed on other film stocks, so they get an additional layer of a "look". The print emulation on Dehancer adds that to make the film look more authentic, as it was released in cinemas.

      @@Jordan_Harris it's little bit more complicated. Even if this plugin looks like a tool "plug and play" you have to do certain more changes to your footage before you put Dehancer.
      I download trial and tried to recreate the footage from 1:55 and I got very close results like on this video.
      - 1st node - it's your raw 709 footage
      - 2nd node - it' your layer node that this bottom one preserve and safes skin tones (you have to preselect skin tones by qualifier) and upper one make an inpact of background colors like lighting, blacks ect. by using color wheels etc.
      - 3rd node - it's Dehancer
      To reach goal, build this node tree and firstable try to pre-set Dehancer on third one. Choose film profile and print profile. Do some changes with Dehancer tools with your taste and then go back to 1st and 2nd node to play with skin tones and the background. It will give you the best results.
      If you put only Dehancer you will never get this results.
      Of course every footage needs different job to do. It's good to keep in mind that footage in this video is almost perfect to work with. Really interesting lighting and quality.
      Dehancer really help to create "film look" a lot but to get perfect results the is a lot more adjustments to do.
      Best regards,
      Maciej ;)

      If there is a dedicated profile in Dehancer, we suggest you use it first.
      If for some reason it doesn’t work, you can use any available means (CST, IDT, factory Luts, manual de-Log) for interpreting your source material in Rec.709 for further processing with Dehancer.

    I like a lot of what yall are doing and am tempted to purchase the Pro version (money isnt an issue) however, I have yet to see any examples that show a decent level of color saturation. It looks like most of these assume a desaturated color look but do not look at all like actual graded film scans I have received from labs. Is there something about your plugin that subdues the color in the image or is it just that no one likes the saturated film look?

    • @Dehancer
      @Dehancer  3 года назад +4

      Thanks for the question. Dehancer is built upon optical printing sampling, which means that no scanner inner software is interfering with the picture. Film scanner manufacturers create their own interpretation of color and gamma.
      Here are a few tips on how to get a saturated picture with Dehancer:
      1. Treat your source wisely
      Make sure your input profile is correct.
      With some specific cameras and shooting modes, you’ll probably need to add a bit of saturation in RAW clip settings or in a separate node before Dehancer.
      In ACES select input profile properly or experiment with different input profiles to your taste.
      2. Choose the saturated film
      All films look different in terms of saturation. Slide film is usually more vivid while negative film tends to be more delicate and sometimes muted colors.
      Also, try experimenting with Push/Pull slider, since film exposure affects colors significantly.
      3. White balance really matters
      A strong color cast or hue shift makes the image more monotonous.
      Then try to find a ‘reference neutral’ object and correct the white balance accordingly at the source level (before Dehancer) or with our Color Head tool. Try both and choose the better or even combine the corrections.
      4. Play with Expand, Exposure, and Tonal Contrast
      Dehancer tonal correction starts with setting Black and White points in Expand tool. Black point is essential here.
      Also, lowering exposure generally results in deeper colors.
      And finally, get ready to increase contrast to get significantly reacher tones.
      5. Try the Color Density tool
      Color Density in Dehancer is a perceptual tool that affects saturation aesthetically, in a sophisticated way. The strongest effect is visible on the colors that are most important for human perception.

    • @ODHunte
      @ODHunte 2 года назад

      You need to add your own saturation in a separate dose to taste..
