That pass at Highbury was from Gerrard, Titi did Liverpool a good service... Gerrard also made a terrific sliding tackle that did injure him, but if my memory is right. It was the tackle that showed his world class future!!!!

To be honest I think Patrick Berger had to be the man of the season for Liverpool at that moment. Liverpool made a mistake selling him to Portsmouth just to bring the Harry Kewell.
Boy we must have thought we'd found in a gem in Tita Camara. These teams were still underperforming. Far top much tinkering going on and not enough development of the team. Manager getting players in to fit him rather than working to bring the players together to create something new. I liked Heskey but why get him when you had Camara - and Fowler. Why do you need Smicer when you already have Berger, Murphy, Gerrard, and Thompson. And not enough injury prevention fitness; especially with the European players we brought in who were not used to the league's pace. This is pretty much the last we see of Berger. Heggem was a real player but we broke him.
He was great for us. I think just lacking pace and power rather than technical skill though. Had it all in his brain and his feet. Just not the body of a top top footballer.
A decent league campaign ruined by a dodgy start ... (4 wins in the first 10 fixtures) ... And a really crappy end ... (NO goals and just 2 points from our final 5 fixtures) ... But everything in-between was really quite good. Houllier's plan was slowly starting to come together, with BIG improvements made at the back, and David James FINALLY moved on ... But we still lacked consistent scoring in matches ... Owen ended top scorer with just TWELVE goals in total! It would be another year before things got REALLY good ...

Murphy wasn't the most technically gifted player, but his work-rate and reading of the game was underrated.

His goals kind of dried up after the 2001/02 season for us, but it may have been a confidence thing because the same thing happened to Owen as well
