Yes from now on I’ll be doing this to my bins, I can already tell it’s for the best. Bins just like to settle and I’m not alway there to fluff them up, so this way the bins can be more independent 😄. I’ve been having health issue so I have to plan for the days I’m not well, I need to babies to remain in the best possible condition.
The wood shavings will take a log time to process in the bin, so as long as your not in a rush to harvest castings you will be fine, coco coir may have been a better option if you had it available. But im new to this so im probably wrong
I use it to just keep things fluffed up lol, I actually don't want it to break down. I will shift it out and use it again, it will already be inoculated with all the microbes 😉. The first time around I did use peat moss to soak up some moisture, pine shavings really increase airflow.
All facts lol, the more you do it the better you get. And what works in my environment is not guaranteed to work in yours, actually doing it yourself is the only way to go.
Hi Damien, I just added layers of apple tree shavings to my moist bins. The worms will love it!
