Really found a liking to these sort of engines.

Lovely little thing Adam we'll done they used these in the park lakes in small boats for hire think you should install it in a boat and take mises man cave for a spin 😂

Nice one Adam. I've used a few of these engines and that one sounds sweet. They are usually pretty bullet proof and reliable. Many had a water injected manifold to cool the exhaust down, with a silencer made of brass a bit like a motorbike which had a cooling jacket with the cooling water spat out at the exhaust. This was great if you have a decent fall from the engine to exhaust. All the ones I have used have had an impulse on the Mag. My Dad had a 4hp one brand new in about 1972 with a 6v dynostart. Luxury for those days. The boat is still around with another Stewart engine fitted. If its easier, NGK make nice little caps with a knurled knob which threads on the spark plug connector. Ive used these on my own boat which had a Brit minor 4hp and a Lucas SR Mag. Modern plugs fitted and worked well with some rain protection on the cap from the NGK cap. Cracking video Adam and I am really enjoying the content.

Do the right thing with that exhaust, and give it the hemp and putty to seal it up!
I wonder if you could get a battery drill, back in the 1920s! But, at least it runs decent, but no wonder it was reluctant to go, with all that oil - The old puppy was oil flooded......

Glad to see it running. I would use some pipe sealing string. Its good stuff and not messy like exhaust paste.

Should put some water in that tube, those pumps shouldn't run dry. Looks like it's running to rich. The pulley shaft looks bent!

I have seen people using a starter motor with a skateboard (or something similar) that runs against the flywheel. I have seen this used to start some pretty stout diesels. Might be something to add to the special tool section.

The pully near the water tank looks to be buckled or you have a bent shaft

Lovely litte engine she wont need too much to get going probably, im not sure what is attached to the output shaft looks like a clutch or something buts its all fell to bits might want a looks at, other than that a general clean and a new exhaust then you got a good rally engine

The exhaust union/thread looked like it was at an angle to the rest of it. Is it cross threaded? All that smoke reminded me of my Vespa when I added too much 2 stroke in the tank :)

I think you should remove the feral on top of the spark plug, before you put it into that new spark plug fitting you put on, I don’t think the plug is far enough into the fitting on the lead to make contact maybe ? Also looks like that muffler is partially blocked

  • @vk4uh96

I am not sure that the magneto is the original one, there is a wadge of what looks like cut up inner tube between the mag and the drive housing and it looks like the magneto has been moved backwards a bit with possibly extra holes drilled as there is un painted area on the magneto bracket and some visible bolt holes, I think you should check the magneto for impulse drive it could be stuck or even have been removed by someone in the past when they fitted that magneto if they did not realise the impulse mechanism is reversible.

These were fitted with Wico A and Lucas RS/SR magnetos along with 3 different types of flywheel magneto.

Did you get that off a 12 year old? It looks like it was put together by Steptoe and son!!!
And is that a lawnmower centrifugal clutch and a pulley on the other end of the crankshaft? It's wobbling all over the place, I'd remove that before it removes itself! 😮

    • @skankingiant

      It's a R3MC, that is it's marine clutch.

@@Herbybandit well that one is knackered and the added pulley isn't original but the rest is right.

not all Wico mags had impulses, and the ones that do tend to have parallel shafts with a flat on, most non impulse wico A mags have a tapered shaft. I dont think I've ever seen a Stuart with a impulse on.
My late granddads P5 originally had lucas N1 mag that even after rebuild was such a paint in the bum to spin fast enough that he put a wico A on it.
I was always told those type of plug caps were not good on a magneto because they often have a suppressor inside that makes a weak mag work hard. Also was told if a mag has a weak spark at slow speeds its possibly suffering from a weak magnet. Now she has run, you might find the mag will get better. Id say the kill contacts have been removed inside which is something my granddad used to do if he had a mag that lost is spark incase it was the insulation through the mag body that had failed.

  • @billellis6538
    @billellis6538 Год назад +1

Probably goes against the grain, but the NGK red plug caps are much better.

You said the last owner never touched it ? (I never believe stuff like that as it means that they have touched it and they broke it or cannot fix it). Then you mentioned that that weird picture thing very strange, I would of been angry tbh😳⚠️
    Also the mag is correct.
