- Rat lungworm, a parasite that causes a type of meningitis, has been behind at least 15 reported cases of the rare disease so far this year in Hawai‘i. By comparison, 11 cases were reported last year. Scientists and medical doctors say there have probably been more infections, but milder symptoms are difficult to differentiate from the flu or intestinal virus.
Experts say there are indicators that suggest that not only will more people become infected, but the illness will be more severe, as well, potentially leaving permanent nerve damage. I am very concerned bc I have been volunteering on a farm in Waimanalo Hawaii and they told me a man got rat lung here 18 months ago. They say wear gloves long sleeves and step on the snails
Now I found out this is more seriousness .
In the past month sept 2018 7 rabbits have died here it was a horrible death.
It was violent to watch.
I stopped working there.
Now I am concerned for my health.
I went to my dr.
What can I do now to see if I am sick.

As long as you didn't eat any you should be fine but and it's been 18 months if you're not showing symptoms then you're prolly fine. If you're super concerned get the spinal tap.

@@michellelovesanimals2237 Rabbits actually eat their own poo, kind of the way a cow chews its cud, it's a way to digest what it eats a 2nd time, well, I bet slugs are attracted to that poo.
I recently went to big island Hawaii. I went knowing about this parasite. I went for a week. The second day I was there I got really sick from my stomach with diarreah and stomach pain. Lots of Gas. Its been a week and my stomach still hurts a lot. I’m back in Miami now and I still feel sick from my stomach. What can I do?

They don't need painkillers in 3rd world countries? Now there's a doc that shouldn't have a license.
Didn't say 3rd work countries didn't need painkillers. She said people there get thru it without painkillers... prolly cuz they don't have access, but she never said they don't need them shes just saying they dont have them.

This stuff is scary. I know I was taught when I was little not to mess with the African snails (OK so once in a while I might have picked one up by the shell...) and if I thought I'd touched one, to wash my hands.
Our doctor don't belive that there is something moving in my body, my ears may muscles in my stomack,in my legs is cram and slow moving and in my head in my neck, and shaky, I came into emergency 2x they said they will recomend me in Psyco doctor. But I know it is true.
What is the mortality frequency of the rat lungworm? (ORE IS THIS A SECRET) AS THIS WOULD BE THE FAR BEST WAY TO RED EVERYONE OF THIS (RAT LUNGWORM) SO ALL CAN BE HEALTHY, WITHOUT BANKRUPCYAND LONG SUFFERING TREATMENTS!!!??
I live in heavy confirmed case area. I've been having an achiness all over my body, and especially in my legs for 9 days. No fever, only a headache today. Don't know if I have it or not. I hope I don't. My symptoms are mild, and haven't gotten worse.
