    Found that the Atama shrinks absurdly! Had to get a size bigger to leave room for shrinkage and I still end up with short sleeves. Thanks for the good review!

    Thank for the review! Hey I am 54kg (~120lbs), 1m72 (5.64ft), which size would you recommend? Would an A1 fit?

    I bought the tatami minimum in black for jiu jitsu, cause as judoka i wanted a black gi for jj, but now the classic look of a white gi it's growing on me 😝, i will love to see something like the mizuno yusho judo gi for bjj, for now this atama looks very cool and classic.

    I have two Atama mundial #9, they rough af after wash and hung dry. Not soft at all, same feedback in other gi review forums. But Atama Gold Weave is much better than Mundial #9

    im done with heavy Gi's. I wont get anything over 350gm now. Ripstop gi's are also quite awesome. Harder to break grips but i train in 115 degree weather during the summers in phoenix so a nice light gi is a blessing. Atama has the best fit IMO. Yours needs a wash and a tumble dry and will be perfect

    I wonder if the cut was the same or similar. Big diff on size. Pants stitching looks good. Jacket looks clean. Not a fan of white but that looks nice. They only have blu in stock. The shrunk gi looks fitted 👌.

      I think the cut was the same. I think one was just washed and dried on High Heat and using Hot Water. The GI was still a bit baggy for me at 5'8 145. I love the Look of this Gi though. Tks for the Comments!

    Hello , first I would like to thank you for the great videos
    I am Brazilian and have advantages in buying kimonos as Atama , Koral , Keiko and other Brazilians.
    I want to buy one more and would like to know your opinion of kimonos : World Atama , Tatami Style 5.0, Fuji , Flow .
    Which of these is the best? And What is the best ever in your opinion?
    Thanks again!

      Hi there.Tks for the reply. I am really new to the Jiu jitsu game, and I am far from an expert on things, but I can give you my opinion on the Gi's i have tried. Overall, All my current Gi's have things i like and dislike, but If I had to pick a favorite it would have to be the Atama Mundial #9. But.. I like all of my current Gi's and they all have things i like.
      I really think it comes down to what Gi's fit your body style and suits your technique etc.
      The Tatami Estiillo 5.0 a1L jacket was just a bit on the tight side under the armpits for me, so I sold it to a friend. However, It fits him perfectly and he LOVES it. The Tatami is a great choice. The Pants have a Pearl weave gusset crotch which I really liked. Also, The Estillo 5.0 was more of a tight sleeve/ pants cut so if you like a tight fight around the sleeves and legs then the Tatami 5.0 could be a very good choice. i found the tatami Pearl weave to be pretty corse and rough after cold wash air drying so its not the softest. The Y vent on the sides of the jacket seemed to flare out and im not sure what the real benefit of those are.
      The Fuji All Around is the Best Bang for your Dollar. I have it in Size A2 and it fits really good right out of the box. The Stiching seems solid and the SIngle weave is very soft. I washed in Hot Water and Dried on High Heat and the shrinkage was minimal. It did not shrink very much so it seems to be pre shrunk. It is not as tight fitting as the Tatami and the Sleeves and Pants have a bit more room in the ANkles and Wrists ( which I like) OVerall a great Plain looking Gi and a solid Choice for all levels of training. Seems to be as well built as all the higher priced Gis. ITs very soft and comfortable. The fuji has a canvas collar instead of rubberized.
      FLOW Hemp Kimono A1L is also an Awesome Gi. The PAnts are the most comfortable and soft feeling pants Ive tried. The Jacket is also very soft. I have already had a little bit of stiching coming loose on the jacket, so having to spend money at a alteration shop ALREADY kind of stinks, but everything else has been fantastic. The Flow Hemp has tighter Sleeve cuffs and Pants then the Fuji and Atama and is similar to the Tatami cut. I'd like to see a little more material on the Skirt or lower parts of the Jacket/ Lapel but that may beecaseu Im used to the Fuji being longer. The Natural White color takes some getting used to, but Its nice to have a different variety. Overall The FLOW Hemp is a GREAT Choice. SUPER SOFT and the PANTS are very nice. Also seems to be pre shrunk and did not shrink a great deal even with HOT WASH And DRY.
      ATama #9 A2 seems to fit me really well. I really like the RIP STOP pants. They are super light and are very comfortable to train in. They are a little on the baggy cut side compared to the ESTILLO and FLOW Hemp, but I really like them. The Jacket has a nice pearl type weave and the overall stiching and quality seems to be above that of the rest of my Gi's. I am not wild about the LOGOd Black ATAMA tape running across the SKirt/Bottom of jacket, but that is only aesthetics. The Sleeves have a good amount of room for ezekiel chokes and are much wider than Estillo and FLow Hemp. I have been washing the A2 in HOT Water and HOt Dry and it does and will shrink to fit. I noticed more shrinkage in the Atama than the others, so it in my opinion is not pre shrunk.
      They all have things I like, but overall I feel like the Atama is the Best of My Gi's right now. I actually really like them all and I feel like I have a solid rotation. If i could design a GI, it would probably be a combination of them all. I will update once i can actually put some time into them and see how they all hold up. CHeers!
      Final Note. A friend gave me a well used/worn Isami Double weave Kimono Top and it is Finely crafted and very soft. I believe its a Japanese company. Very Pricey. i really like it. Mine has a Ralph Gracie Patch Acadamy on it. www.chokesports.com/collections/featured-products/products/isami-double-weave-bjj-gi
      I may do a small review on it. TKs again for the comments

    Has the new one shrunk down to the size of the other one? I heard they had a change in cut a couple years ago and now are more baggy.

      Hi there/ I actually sold my New one to a friend at the School i train. The Used Atama I have on in the video is still going strong, so I didnt need the new one any longer. They looked to be the same cut to me. I'll ask my buddy this week if I see him.

      Hi there. The Belt I have is a TIGER CLAW size 4 that came with a freebie Gi i got for sighing up. I just got a KORAL belt and am gonna wear that one and see how i like it. I had no issues with the Tiger Claw. I made a video on my page to compare the 2. Tks for the comment! CHeers

    Great video, especially showing the comparison between the new and washed gis. I was planning on getting myself an Atama Mundial 9 since they have a 20% off sale going on, but your video got me thinking twice. I'm 5'8" at 154lbs with a athletic build and even the one that has been washed several times just seems to baggy for my taste. Thanks for the review, really helped with my decision making. Btw anyone know if I could pull off an A1 if I cold washed and line dried that sucker or would it be too small out of the bag to even consider it.

    • @kidwilson3357

      tks for the comments. At your size, I would thnk the a2 would probably shrink and look pretty good. Im super skinny so if you are a little broader it might fit nice. However, with that being said the Atama is a bit of a boxy cut. If your looking for something slimmer in the cut, I would recommend CTRL industries , Shoyoroll and Tatami Estiillo 5.0, All of those GI's are a tighter cut in the sleeves, pants, arms and torso. Fightersmarket.com usually has online coupon codes and you can probably get an Tatami Estillo shippped for 140 or less from that site. The ATAMA while a bit boxy, has really awesome ripstop pants and collar and is also built like a tank and should last a long time.. so for 140 its a pretty good deal if it fits. CTRL Industries and SYR are pricey, but fit very good. The SYR hype is kinda crazy as the SYR has the highest price tag and lowest quality. CTRL Industries are the best all around for my size and I have 2 of them in my rotation. I bought mine used off of ebay or fb sites. cheers !!

    I already have an Atama Mundial 9 and I'm very happy with it. Especially with the fit, which feels like tailor fitted. However one of my gis broke so I need a new one. Is there a gi which has the exact same cut and size as the Mundial 9 (Doesn't need to be any specific brand)

    • @kidwilson3357
      @kidwilson3357  8 лет назад

      Hi there. If you like the fit of the Atama, I would just get another #9. I cant say I have another Gi that fits quite like the Atama, so i can't really recommend anything at the moment. My best Gi's are Atama and CTRL industries. Both are top notch quality. ATAMA Website usually alwasy has discounts, so for $140 or less you can prob get an ATAMA mundial #9 shipped. Cheers

    Hey man. Thanks for the great review. I've got the same Gi in a black color. I've had it for a few months now, but I only cold wash and air dry it. It does feel stiff. Does putting it in the dryer really make it soft? I've also got a vulkan and air dry it too and it is still soft. Thanks again go. Keep on rollin'

    • @TheBjjninja
      @TheBjjninja 8 лет назад +1

      Yes. Air drying will always make the gi feel like sandpaper. But after warming up in it, it will soften up from sweat. Putting it in dryer will make it softer but also put more wear on the gi.

      I not sure to be honest. If I had to guess I would say whatever T shirt size you wear comfortably would be best bet. maybe someone your size and weight can chime in.

    when you say "washed hot" what temp? 60C or 40C ... how about drying ? Low or High?

    • @kidwilson3357
      @kidwilson3357  6 лет назад

      I was trying to shrink as much as possible,. I put boiling water from a pot into a sink with the GI top and pants in it and let it sit there. I dried on High Heat in Laundry mat Dryer.

    • @witte2702
      @witte2702 6 лет назад

      thanks for the prompt reply. the hottest i have been confident enough to use is Low Heat dryer and 60 degree C wash
      - have you noticed any degradation in the collar from treating with such high heat (this is what would concern me)?
      I find your videos very useful - especially the shrinking details. There is probably a gap for someone to do a Gi shrink/fit documenting channel - sort of a meerkatsu but video. A methodology with consistent measuring technique - and documenting what methods were used and how often would be great. You obviously love experimenting with different Gis, and i wouldn't be surprised if it wouldn't take that long before manufacturers were sending you promo samples. : )
      i have done 2 x 60 degree washes to try and shrink a jacket, in your experience is there any point in try another couple of hot washes?

    • @kidwilson3357
      @kidwilson3357  6 лет назад

      Tks for the comments. I only soaked in boiling water the one time to get max shrinkage since I figured that would shrink the fabric the most. I did not have any problems with the collar coming apart, so luckily I did not have any issues. I pretty much have cold washed and Hang Dried this Gi mostly since then, and it has held up very well. I did see that Atama has in between sizes now, so my review may be somewhat outdated since Atama now sells A1L to make up for the gap between A1 and A2. Once again I appreciate the nice comments, Ty ;)

      Hi there!! I bought the Gi from Atama USA. They usually have 15 to 20% off the Mundial #9 esp during holiday sales etc. I got mine for 130.00 dollars new. Worth every penny. This is a great Gi. OSS
