What an amazing gift, cherish and take good care of your new home
You are an intelligent woman. Everything you say about pruning etc. is so valid. You can also learn to prune trees to grow lower to not be so dangerous for falling on houses. Just because the tree can reach 60 - 100 feet in height doesn't mean you can't prune it to keep it smaller but only if done CORRECTLY. We need more chipping machines that can take the pruning and turn them into mulch that will benefit the earth.
