365 days I crewed on sailboats from San Diego, USA all the way down to Panama, stopping in Mexico and Costa Rica. After Panama crossing the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand stopping at islands like the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, Tonga and Fiji
45 days I traveled through New Zealand from the Northernmost point to the Southernmost point, then
100 days I traveled by motorbike through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, then
365 days I traveled in my self-built campervan from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, then
365 days I traveled with this van through Iran and Pakistan, then
180 days I built an off-grid log cabin in the woods in Spain, then
180 days I restored an old sailboat in Guatemala, then
365 days I traveled with this sailboat from Guatemala to Honduras, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Grenada and more islands in the East Caribbean
Currently I am #sailing, we're in the #carriacou doing #hurricaneberyl
Huub - you embody a tremendous amount of heart and positivity which would be a welcome gift for those who’ve lost everything. Not to tell you what to do, but your presence brightens up a lot of days and I’m sure the residents there could use it. Be well 🙏
You can really feel Huub's and Danny's empathy to the devastation and sorrow for the people's loss .
Been through several Hurricanes in St Croix and in The States , worse problem is the pain and work remain long after the News crews and Volunteers leave. It takes years to recover. Green lush islands are turned brown. We wish You well. You will make it.
Thank you for this. I could even see my boat, Rocinante, that survived in the mangroves, brought out by friends and is on a mooring not far from the small haul out. I have lent her to a Scottish couple I have never met whose boat fell over in that small yard. I am on Vancouver Island, until November. I have kept her on my favourite island of Carriacou for 20 years. I know that island intimately. It’s devastating, my heart breaks. Rocinante is visible at 7:08 just above the bow of the beached trawler.
Very kind of you to lend your boat. hope there's no squatters rights like homes
Just so glad that you two are safe. I ❤ your videos. Looking forward every Sunday for your video. Safe sailing to you two.
Thanks Andre!
Thank you for sharing! Hope it gets to the right people who can make a real difference!
Hai Huub and Daniela, impressive images. I live on Bonaire myself. Beryl passed there at a safe distance. Your video makes me realize once again what we were spared and how lucky we were here. That will make you quiet for a moment.
Thank you Huub & Danielle for sharing this video. I have not seen anything else posted on the aftermath of the hurricane and how the locals are dealing with their loss of homes and business and everything. It's sad to see so much destruction. Bless you both and everyone on the islands that were damaged. 🌴⛵🐬
thank you!
wow. what a terrible mess, Thanks for posting this. I am so glad you were able to get south in time to avoid this storm.
Thanks for the video. Heartbreaking. I was there on lagoon 42 Bluevana just a week before the storm. We were moving the boat to Trinidad. Tyrell bay was pretty full of boats at the time. The devastation is heart breaking.
Reminds me of that video where you put your boat somewhere and they dig first a hole for the keel to go into (it was basically sitting on the ground that way). Seems like a much safer solution in hurricane areas that haveng the boats high up (and then fall down)...
I have been cruising for 40 years, over 206,000 miles. I have never stayed in the storm areas in storm season. It's just not necessary. A few days sail away is safety.
I thought Grenada was a safe place? Not far south enough? Please tell
@@peteh8077 in the old days we used to go to Venezuela, which is no longer adviseable. Trinidadis the least risk though still too risky for me. I would not consider Grenada suitable at all. Many people will disagree. I have met a few people who stayed on their boat during a hurricane, but never anyone who did it twice.
So sad, but a great update thanks for sharing, I'm a part time cruiser, my boat on the hard in antigua for the hurricane season, fingers crossed 🤞, please stay safe and hopefully we can meet up in the Caribbean soon love your adventures again stay safe
Hello we are SV Isla Rose and just are watching your video and you have a very good shot of our boat thank you for sharing.
Paradise, it seems, is not without its downside, especially against hurricanes that bring no mercy.
When I lived in a sailboat I was barely spared by chance or dumb luck, but the happy memories will last all my life.
Wow. I knew it was bad but it's way worse than I thought. The storm surge with the wind are next level. Many of the boats were well prepared and still got wrecked. Poor island. Good to see that essentials are being seen to by the local authorities and private businesses.
The news does not show us this. Thank you for letting us see this
We spent 43 days sailing from Brazil, passed Grenada with Beryl approaching, turned our bow to Spanish Waters, Curacao. If Beryl is the thin end of the wedge, predicted in an above average hurricane season I am so glad we are anchored in Curacao.
Stay away from the Caribbean when it's hurricane season there is the tip...but it's ok to be there when it's not hurricane season..but expensive!!
Having lived through the infamous Joplin tornado the best thing you can do is contribute your labor. Find out if there is organized volunteer groups and tell them what your skill sets are and pitch in. If nothing is organized help out anywhere you see people working and if you see something that you can do yourself do it.
Good sharing, yes sad, there is virtually nothing untouched🤔.
God Bless with prayers, hugs&Love for all🙏🏻⛵🐬
Rinse and repeat. See ya next year.
Most of the boats look just fine.
Yea man, sad to see everything destroyed. I was in the mangroves on my boat during the hurricane...my boat got smashed by 3 other boats and sunk. Basically lost everything... but everyone standing together, helping each other....
Heart breaking 😢
Wow, aren’t you glad that you went to Trinidad! Terrible devastation. I went through Hurricane Andrew a cat 5+ Lost my home/ cruising boat. So sorry for these people. Thanks for the video. Very well done.
Those 150 mph winds can be quite devastating. I saw the aftermath of hurricane Michael firsthand.
yeah, I'd never seen this. it's crazy!
So Shocking ;( it is very painful to see this😢
Don't forget stuff can be fixed , as long as people are OK. And they haven't run out of cigarettes.
Heartbreaking!
Thanks for adding the link for fundraising!
Thanks Marie! It is indeed !
Its just so sad to see this. Glad you are safe.
Thanks
So sad!! Thanks for sharing this
been there, done that, in the Philippines ! took the road off the island and threw it out into the ocean !
GLAD to hear you're both ok! Good opportunity for you to help out, make friends & hopefully a few bucks too!
Tragic. Thanks for showing.
Thanks for sharing that!
The people that own the crafts’ have insurance whereas the poor people’s have nothing. This is the second video I’ve watched on this, was wondering why is the White Man (I’m White myself) so upfront regarding this disaster.
Volunteers are also on the Osprey ferry.
"Leaning-Out" can now be suitably renamed "Leaning-Over"...
this is so sad to see.
Thinking I will just leave my yacht at the dock this year considering.
Thank you for sharing this vlog of the terrible impact that that the hurricane had on Grenada. Seeing short clips of the damage on news reports does not have the same impact as your "boots on the ground" report does. Your video reinforces the saying that one picture (or video) is worth 1000 words.
"Boats on the ground"
My Friend has a monohull on its side in that yard…. Very sad…
Very sad! 😢
It’s so sad.
Really terrible. Our roof came off. Very sad. God help us all.
Look at the damage
It's terrible!
devastating!
how did you survive it i was really concerned and thought i would not see you and Daniela again
Hi , if your still in the yard , do you see (Oopsea) I’m coming to sort it soon, Jt
Now your boat is for sale..what's next?
So sad.
I thought you guys took "Limonada" away from the Beryl pathway. Are you back into its trails of destruction now?
Did you manage to come through the storm completely unscathed?
All in a good cause. However, do you hope money raised goes to yacht owners, insurance companies, or communities? There's 3 ways it could go. Which is it? Is there a way to help the community without it going to wealthy people?
Do they burn or bury the stuff? or both?
All 3 of those dudes were talking to you at the same time.
9:36
The ironie of the name….
Trinidad and Tobago is safe place for boats
Tell them check NADMA for clothing, and food they can get it there.
🙏💙💙💙
What percentage of those boats do you think have boat insurance? Will some of those boats be scrapped?
good question! I honestly have no idea!
Hi , how do go about buying a salvage or damaged boat ? Do they post on internet or do you just buy or bid in person ? Admire you both for taking on such a big challenge, Have Good Day ⛵️🏝@HuubVlogs
was a hundred yr storm
Buried power lines don't blow when there's a hurricane, but overhead lines do...a tip!!
My uncles boat is in there somewhere 🥲
You might have mentioned more about where exactly you are, and how many days after the storm you are recording... how did you guys avoid the storm, I recall you holding off on your trip in a previous video... Use maps! they are easy to download, and are extremely helpful in telling your story...
So much clean up work to be done. I guess the 3 black guys that were waiting for hand outs will not lift a finger until someone pays them. Typical Caribbean attitude
Hi guys
Are you still in Carriacou, if you are could I ask a favour of you please, I would be happy to donate to your sailing kitty
Absoloute carnage of wrecked boats , most of which I'm guessing will be insurance write-offs, I wonder what happens to all of these boats post-hurricane.
bro want a house...I'm willing to bet he didn't have one before the storm. water sent in to the island was refused to those who live on those boats
I just wonder if you can even get a insurance for a boat or house in this part of the world as this happens quite often…
Maybe you two just go and help some random people?!?
🙏🏼
😓
Are you going to help those people rebuild at least for a few months, it’s not like you have to go anywhere, right ?
o man
Wonder if people over there will ever learn how to build hurricane proof houses or if they will continue as they are doing and have houses destroyed all the time..
mucha tristeza por ver tanta devastacion. Vi este documental ruclips.net/video/NJTdu309d3E/видео.html y me ha parecido reconocer el local nocturno y verlo todo destrozado es duro. Al menos estais bien. Gracias por el video
my boat was destroyed by huricane Ian
I'm trying to spread the word. They are really bad off. The land people are so bad off they won't share water with the sailors ! That came from another video ! Its really bad.
What a mess
Morning Huub please help me to get one off your Tshirt please
Devastating but that is nature sometimes God extends his grace and sometimes not for the guys asking for houses my question is did you have one before the hurricane? I know people are in need but to boldly ask for something like that storm or no storm humble yourselves and try to clear debris or something instead of sitting there doing nothing. That's my two cents.
...boy those entitled dudes sure know how to gripe!
I didn't see anybody sorting things out? Usually after a storm the survivors/most there if able, work sort things out.
The store was open, even though no refrigeration/electric. How many days is that after the storm? Maybe they don't have the infrastructure needed to sort things out, rebuild and maintain basic civilization.. I dunno much about the Caribbean other than it being a tourist draw for travelers and sailors.
Maybe everyone in waiting for insurance assessments? Sad state of affairs. Maybe it's time to move on?
Wow, many sailboats ⛵️ are damaged, and some can't be fixed .In Caribbean Island, every year, it has been curricanes. The best sailboats to keep in Pacific Islands, because way more safety, I don't know why people keeping boats in the Caribbean will always be damaged by boats .People do not understand how to keep boats .Sorry for this, people.
