No, you're thinking of a different video Sam watched.
At another time he saw a few seconds of another Sam (but I never noticed it was the original Sam on Earth... I think that glitch in the film was just a different cloned Sam on the ship).

I bought Moon as my first Blu Ray because it was on sale at my local BlockBuster video that was closing for good. I had no idea what it was about but the price was right and I wanted to start my collection. I think I got “The Other Guys” also.
I loved it and it haunted me for awhile with after credit thoughts.
Mute had a scene in it with some insights to what happened after!

Yet I STILL love watching it again and again, as a totally different experience. Absolutely one of my all time favourite movies.

There is no evidence in this movie that the Sam on Earth is collecting Clone Sam’s pay. None.
However the scene where Getty cuts Sam’s hair demonstrates at least one way that Central could have collected Original Sam’s DNA.
Besides, Sam is depicted as a decent guy. Do you really think he would agree to such an arrangement?

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  4 года назад +4

You're judging Sam by our standards. In his future it may be normal for this to happen and clones may not even be considered autonomous.
Or more likely the clones are the property of the corporation as part of the agreement for his initial contract. There's some evidence of this in real life as not too long ago a company in the US became the first in history to legally patent/copyright a gene. We're only a hop skip and jump away from this possible future ourselves.

LOVE this interpretation my man. Years ago, when I first watched this with my Dad, I turned to him at the end and said something like "Do you think this was just literal, or maybe he'd lost his mind in some way?". I was grasping at something underlying, and subliminal, and I think your analysis here is fascinating. There are a lot of clues throughout that you could be on to something. I'd initially thought perhaps this was semi-literal: he WAS really on the moon, but he went bonkers over the 3 years and in his cabin-fever he essentially had a psychotic episode and split a la Fight Club. There are a number of clues that this too could be a viable interpretation, including his AI computer friend not initially acknowledging the other 'clone', and the two never interacting properly in front of the AI computer (in other words, no other 'person' sees them together, much like the hallucinations in a Beautiful Mind).
So... could my interpretation be right...or yours? I like both of them but they can't both be right. Thanks for this vid.

It demonstrates that big companies have no quarms about using people and I'm sure that not only is the fact that Helium 3 could help with our energy issues, this movie shows exploitation will always be with us. brilliant video, incredible movie. I just love everything about the aesthetic and it hits my personal favourite quality's in movies (space, sci-fi, isolation, essentially one location, minimalism (Sam Rockwell is 90% of the movie, mystery). Sam Rockwell crushes playing 2 roles side by side. When people mention how much the love a film like Legend for example for Tom Hardy's excellent performance, i always recommend this movie for the same reason. Sam Rockwell deserves a lot more recognition for his acting abilities and overall eccentric character. He's such a personality. 10/10.

All I see is corporate greed using clone sam as a slave. Fully knowing, the body will not tolerate the conditions for more than three years.
The only thing that gets me thinking is: Did the original Sam and his wife agree to this abuse? In the live video call to earth, his 15 year old daugher calls for her dad and it is the OG Sam coming to the phone.
Did they trade the fate of endless clone generations for a life without financial worries? The wife had to be in it, too, as she recorded the messages for clone Sam to keep him in line for the contract duration.

This is an interesting perspective, but it comes from the same universe & mindset as Blade Runner. So it engages the deeper issue of replicants / clones & what it means to be human. It dives into the question of rights for sentient life & the true ethics of existence. It also addresses true concerns of capitalistic power when mega corporations reach a level of true monopoly over not just a market but the society in which it engages. I feel clear that this is the true nature of the story & issues involved. Nice piece though, definitely relevant to other forums.

    Interesting thougts.
One thing puzzled us however: why is there an actual, working capsule on the station to get Sam nr. 2 home?
This makes no sense at all.
Why would Lunar even install a working capsule when it would never allow a clone to leave the station?
The film even showed the bogus ones, which I think Sam discovered that they burn the bodies.
So why would be a real one?
And even if there is a real one, surely it would be secret? How does Sam 2 suddenly know about it?
This feels like a deus ex machina which entirely upends the logics of this fantastic movie.

The film was primary made as a vehicle for Sam Rockwell and a call back to the more serious science fiction films that used to be produced decades ago.
Today science fiction films are just pure fantasy and are utterly disconnected from even known science.

No offense intended, but this interpretation of the film sounds like earnest fanfiction which starts from an idea and then looks for ways to back it up.
I could put forth my own interpretation: the film is *really* about Hitler's last days in the bunker, him coming to grips with everything he did wrong in his life, and being desperate to find a way out, to start over again. His clones are the lives he lived or could have lived. The wife he can't make contact with? Why, that's Eva Brain, of course. Unless she's a metaphor representing his dream of global conquest. So near, yet always an unreachable, failed delusion.
I'll need some time to figure out Gerty. It might be a representation of the music of Richard Wagner.
I'm not imagining this; I'm making it up! 😸

So I've just watched the film, and I think they are all clones, apart from the real Sam but the closer they are to the first Sam in character, the real Sam, the better, but some of the clones are more damaged than others, so it's a fight to get the real Sam back to earth btw the clones. Did the real Sam send himself back?!?
