Those who don’t know, pindapatna is part of a tradition of surviving a minimalist life. Whatever you place in that container, Monks have no craving for or rejection towards. Same loving kindness and equanimity towards all who give praises or criticism.
By giving something to a monk you commit a noble deed(deed) because they are on a path of renunciation and getting rid of all forms of evil. A monk will never ask you to hate someone or kill somebody , steal someone’s belongings etc…
Make time to ask them why a Monk is superior and a good sight. What their Seelaya (precepts) is. You will for sure be impressed.
