  • A unique encounter with a Sámi reindeer herding family. We follow the artist's father and brother herding their family's reindeer in the tundra, in Northern Norway. Both the music and the film capture the essence of this unique lifestyle in the coldest time of winter. Old traditions are passed on to the younger generation. The Sámi artist Elle Márjá is portrayed through her personal joik, performed by her father Per Henrik Eira.
Director: Ken Are Bongo and Elle Márjá Eira
Music: Morten H. Pettersen, Elle Márjá Eira
Production: Kautokeino Film AS, Arctic Studios, Sahkkon Sound
Premiere was during the Tromsø International Film Festival 2013.

I just saw your work featured in the release of "When the Levee Breaks"...I searched you out. This is amazing and powerful music. I'll be seeking more. Cheers.

I also searched for her after hearing "Levee" and am fascinated. I also checked out Mihirangi and her Maori songs and culture. Totally different, but still the same in that they are steeped in the nature, culture, and history of their homelands. That is one ting I love about the Playing for Change videos: they bring together street musicians and famous musicians from all over the world and highlight how similar we all are at the most fundamental level, which allows us to not be afraid of our differences but celebrate them.

Where do the Sami get the dyes for their vibrantly colored clothes? Their blue is the most beautiful I have ever seen.

Sámi people don't dye their textiles. They buy fabrics ready-made from shops.

I love this song. But where can you buy it? I checked the Ella Marja website, there is no links to her music.

Hei!
