- The new Z2R drill powered person ascender/pulley. I purchased it from HowNot2. They have a more extensive video on its potential uses and additional information.

The is a way better PPE certified device called the Mittelmann infinityAxess-MTK20S. This device got certifications for abseiling, rescue, lifting etc. doesn't wear its input shaft as fast as the Z2R due to a better gear and gear ratio and does not have glued parts like the Z2R.
Plus if your drill fails you can use a ratchet wrench
Thays a really cool set up. I really like the stiff tether. Like you mentioned on my video, two ropes is definitely the way to go. I'm not familiar with that drill, but if it's not brushless, keep an eye on it on long accents. They say brush motor drills can overheat with a long hard duty cycle.
@@zaccheus the first drill I had was brushed and only made it 15ft. The Harbor Great drill is doing awesome so far.
Like your buddies setup, I also started with the akimbo. The RR with the stuff teather seems to be the best setup.
Taking a secondary climbing system also allows you to bail out if the Z2R malfunctions on the way up.
@timbermen11 For sure, for sure. It is super important to always have a rope egress and this unit doesn't claim to be able to support that function so I think two ropes is probably the way to go. I'm going to try setting it uo that way next time around for sure.
South paws!
Right angle drill 😂 👍
Sweet set up, improving it right off the bat!
I’m just living my left handed life in a right handed world…
I’m using the same setup the drill your using I don’t think is brushless. I’m had good luck with Ridged makes a brushless and Flex also. I’m using the ascender on 10mm line. I’m an akimbo on the second climb line. I never remove the ascender from 10mm rope just leave it hanging so can come and use. The 10mm line is connect climb line by prusik midline pulled up setting the climb line. When finished just lower both lines drown ascender attach. It’s a leaning curve for sure good luck.
Sounds complicated….
I wish you had links in the description for every item you used for your gull set-up

Rope Runner + FIX tether = Treestuff.com
Z2R + Rope = HowNot2.com
I'm thinking about getting one of these for my own tree climbing...my one major concern with your setup is that if the pulley shreds the rope then there's a good chance the rope will just slip right through the rope runner due to the way a damaged rope becomes more compressible. You've only got a few inches between the bottom of the rope runner and where the rope would fail.
@@outofmiryclay good point. I can’t really think of another way to back it up and it’s a lot of work too set up a secondary rope, so I’m just going to go with what I’m using and pray it keeps working.
I’m more concerned about internal gears stripping and the Z2R failing mechanically rather than it chew a rope up and fail that way.
Can you think of another way to back it up?
@@timbermen11 the only thing I can think would be to attach a hand ascender to your bridge with a webbing sling long enough so that the ascender grabs the ascension rope just above the rope runner. The toothed cam of an ascender will grab more securely and quicker if there is a failure. That being said, you are correct that it is very unlikely that the pulley will actually shred the rope under any kind of "normal" use...most likely the rope would start slipping or the gearing could malfunction.
What I was thinking of doing is having a dedicated ascension line strictly for the pulley and then use my normal rope for my standard mechanical device. I was thinking I'd just pull both lines up the tree simultaneously with the same throw line and base tie them and then once I make it to the top I'd have the ground person undo the base tie on the ascension line and lower that whole system down. Wouldn't really take more time to set up...and I think you already said you'd be bring a second rope up with you anyway.
@@outofmiryclay good idea with the hand ascender teeth. It would likely still grab if it was above the RR.
I tried the 2 separate ropes and it’s difficult to work the drill with one hand and tend slack on a climbing system with the other hand

Rope runner and all arborist devices are 11 to 13 mm..with some variations

@@timbermen11 I know you said only 11 and under so was assuming you didn't know..wanted to check out that device ...I'm older and wounded plus have health issues my liver so Been struggling as I run tree care solo ..very very difficult doing full size removals with no equipment .hand loading brush loggs and climbing 🧗♂️. With half liver a torn knee. Broken left foot bone knuckles and broken left hand knuckles..at almost 50 ..I recently have used my grcs for a ride but requires a helper wich I rarely have..thing costed 5 grand with exssesories..I've lost 30 pounds am finally maybe getting medication needed..been solo 6 years no one works here.they want payed but don't produce..or stay longer than a week..I'm so beyond tired and sick..anything tool wise helps 1500 is cheaper than grcs wish I knew about thos before..hand. that Ronin is way way to heavy .being sick in this 10p degree heat I can't barley lift my saws let alone that thing..saw one in my local shop it's as heavy as my grcs ..no way I'm useing that .the rapter also looks to heavy...I run ported echo 2511t 3 of them..and try not to use big saws unless I absolutely have to ..sold my 661cm for that reason ...thanks God bless
I got mine! I Just let it carry me up a 600 foot pit 💪🏻
Nice!
What did you use for a backup system?
@@timbermen11 I throw a small quick link in the top attachment hole and put my top rope through it. I tie a prusik above it and attach to me. The quick link pushes the prusik up hands free.
I want on of them so bad!
You definitely won’t regret it !
Cool toy! I think the design is a little better than the Ronin for sure (mid line, more rope tolerances) but not having a backup system built in is a major oversight, I like how the wraptor uses a rope grab and built in ring for your climb line. Even the ronin uses a similar failsafe option. If your rope gets bound in this pulley, you are stuck in a bad position and awaiting rescue. If I was to run that, I would probably try and run a rope grab above it off the little ring up top, then clip another climbing system to the bottom so I could bail out if shit goes wrong. Pretty sure window cleaner dudes use two ropes so this might be for them but it's hard enough getting one line in a tree lol. I think it's still cool but I think the wraptor is still the best powered ascender and I would not pay more than a few hundred dollars for something like this.
I bring a secondary rope with me.
If that scenario happens and I get stuck, I plan on using the secondary rope and anchor to the tree or the rope runner above the Z2R to repel down.

I ascended up a 90ft ponderosa yesterday and it’s worth every penny, for an old guy.

Great videos! We also have another brand pulley, much cheaper than this😊
Do you have any info on the other brand pulley?
No idea what I'm talking about, this video somehow came up on my feed and I found it interesting to watch, but just wondering the question out loud: are you not kinda fucked if your ascender chews up your rope and your life-support device is attached above that? Like sure, it'll catch you if the ascender fails, but how do you safely descend after that? Surely you'd need someone to rig up a fresh line to actually get you down if that happens?
