    This plugin is outstanding. I'm an AO subscriber at Patreon and his plugins are right up there with my favorite commercial VSTs. He's one of the best boutique developers out there. It's incredible that this is free. Thanks for doing a good video to spread the word! The more support he gets, the more likely we'll get more great tools like this in the future!

      @@philzeo STEQ is surprisingly cool for a simple mini channel strip. 3 band eq with sweepable mid, and a one knob compressor. KONSOL is a really cool console emulation preamp. I especially like the "Blue" setting -- it sort of gentle compresses as you drive into it and has separate settings for track/bus, and LOADED is another cool channel strip. He has so many good tools, really.

    Had fun experiencing the joy of discovering this with you. You go aggressive and hard right away. Very happy making. Had this plug for awhile and it was too daunting. Now I’m definitely going to put that limiter on some things. Good video!

      Thank you very much! I look forward to hearing you and others using this very colorful tool to the best of your ability! Hopefully it expands some of the sonic horizons that you seek to! It's amazing what is capable of being achieved with free plugins these days. Thank you so much for your comment!

    I love this. Been playing around with this one myself (and immediately subscribed to his patreon). Thanks for the vid.
    Ive been playing around with Kabin, all of his stuff kind of seems like you need to figure it out yourself. But the sounds are so good

    If you click the logo you'll get 4x oversampling. Don't think it's been mentioned. That goes for all AO plugins.

    • @philzeo
      @philzeo  Год назад +3

      The version I have doesn't actually have an option for oversampling. I checked all the different possible envelopes and options in the plugin. The only AO plugin I have that does that is actually dBComp. I should get updated versions, hopefully they'll have that ability.
      Thank you for your comment! :D

    I’ve been trying out a lot of his stuff and really liking it but like you I wish some of the stuff came with better descriptions of what everything does. Very little information on some of these plug-ins on his Patreon page. A decent README file/user guide would be real helpful with some of his stuff.

    I've been trying out the Channev and it seems pretty good far with lots of grit when pushing the various saturation circuits (the red knobs). I'm guessing the de-esser is using single-band compression instead of multi-band like most modern de-essers (that don't use some sort of reverse phase method). Still might be useful if the sibilance isn't too pronounced.

    • @philzeo

      I for one adore it! I'm a big neve circuit fan. The only hardware I currently own, outboard wise, are two 1073 knockoffs and a couple of optical compressors. 😂 MY priorities haha. Thank you for the comment!

    Hi Phil, voice is a bit distorted but great video about this plugin.

    • @philzeo
      @philzeo  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much for the comment! I actually used the CHANNEV as my main plugin on my vocal in post, so a lot of that distortion is coming from the fact that I've got a tube pre and a tube compressor running into ChanNev, exacerbating the amount of warmth on my voice. But I still thought it would be really cool to pretty much only use the plugin from the video to process my voice (after my hardware chain)!
      I hope that makes sense.
      Thank you again for the comment! :D

    Thanks for this pretty cool walk-through of Channev..... I love your metal tune!!!
    If you enjoy having a great selection of pre-amps in one plugin, try AO's Pre-Box!!! 11 different options ranging from somewhat common to sorta rare / unusual. I love it, and use it a lot!! Great plugin, like most AO products

  • @johnponder5973

    There does not appear to be a means to control the attack time on the compressor or limiter. So that parameter is "hardwired" in. Anyone have any idea what it might be?

    • @philzeo
      @philzeo  Год назад +3

      It's based on a 2264, which I'm fairly certain has a fixed attack time of 3ms. If this has a fast / slow switch, then the slow attack would then change the attack time to 12ms. Diode bridge designs don't usually have adjustable attack though. Or at least, they didn't used to. If the emulation is effectively using the same timings as the original, then it would be 3ms default and 12ms if there's a slow switch.
      I hope that helps!

    eh, this video _still_ sounds more like it was recorded on M-Audio gear than Neve....

    • @philzeo

      Impressive that you were able to-
      Wait, nope.. Not a single piece of m-audio equipment. Sorry 😂
      I believe the equipment used was actually presonus, and an re320. I do think that pushing anything to it's extreme will really demonstrate the kind of distortion you can get from it, which can be good for reference. Otherwise it's a bit too subtle for youtube! :P

    your voice sounds almost distorted. It's very unpleasant.

    • @philzeo
      @philzeo  3 месяца назад

      I agree! It's not "almost" distorted, though. You're being very polite. It's QUITE distorted, and very saturated.
      Why is that? It's pretty much because I thought it'd be fun to do a video where I mixed the voiceover with pretty much JUST this plugin. If I were to do it again, I would've probably used my default vocal chain. But it was an experiment, and I never ended up doing the same thing again thanks to feedback JUST like yours in my comments section! :)
      Thank you for your comment!

    Your voice and video distorts...

    • @philzeo
      @philzeo  11 месяцев назад

      Yes! I experimented on this one by running the entire thing through the plugin. It's definitely a "coloring" one, and not a clarity one. My other videos don't have that problem haha It was a one-time thing.
      Thanks for your comment though!
