Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by and allowing us to share this amazing experience on the Takhini River with you. Arctic grayling has been on our list for many years now and they definitely did not disappoint. The dorsal fin of the larger specimens is simply stunning and the camera could not capture exactly how pretty they are. Yukon is definitely a destination which we highly recommend to everyone. We can't wait to go back again next year!
i grew up in the yukon, and learned that 'fly up the line' method myself. but i used to tie a black gnat about a foot or a foot and a half above a panther martin spinner. sadly, that's illegal down here in BC.
Great video. My British wife is itching to see the northern lights so we’re planning a trip up to Whitehorse next August with a couple of other families. We’re gonna drag the RV’s up there and grayling is on my bucket list while there so this has got my blood pumping. BTW I always get a kick out of Kitty, she’s quite the character and must be a hoot to fish with. Rock, paper, scissors indeed, lol.
Yukon is always peaceful fishing adventure, artic greyling are a busy action pack day with lots of bites. Hope you had time to hit some artic char, Northern pike, and lake trout while in that area:)
Curtis Baller We were able to do some northern pike fishing (previous episode) but didn’t have time to chase lake trout and too far south for Arctic char. Next year!
Incredible journey! Thank you for bringing us along! I absolutely love all Salmonids and I hope to fish for as many different species as I can in my lifetime; 2 of the fish near the top of that bucket list are Arctic Grayling and Arctic Char.
Another fantastic video Rod and Kitty! I love the drone footage as much as the 1st person shots. When I watch your videos I always feel like I am right there with you guys. Someday I hope to get the opportunity to catch an artic grayling too!
Another excellent video with an amazing fish species! you need to see these fish in person to truly appreciate them. Was also nice to see my sticker in the background at :45
Nice one Rod! I've only caught grayling ice fishing before. Never open water. Beautiful fish though. It doesn't seem we have too many in southern bc though.
Hey rod I’ve learned a lot from your videos, I saw how you striped leeches for brook trout and I tried the same thing and caught my first two brook trout, thanks!
awesome video. those graylings look so cool. despite a beautiful location, must have been hard to relax knowing that there could have been bears or wolves around lol
We were somewhat concerned about wildlife before we arrived in Yukon but actually the entire trip we saw one fox and a herd of elk... No grizzly bear this time...
It is really difficult to describe just how abundant and healthy fish are up there, even through the camera... Everyone should visit the area at least once. :) Thanks Derek!
Thanks Andy. When I targeted European grayling many years ago in Denmark, I found that they were incredibly difficult to entice on the fly. These Arctic grayling on the other hand, were definitely not hook shy. Most likely due to the difference in angling pressure. We were probably the only people fishing that entire river in Yukon that day.
LOL I should have filmed what was actually happening with that sound. It's a jar of silica crystals used to take out all the moisture on the dry fly so it would float better. Steve was putting the fly in the jar and shaking it after a few fish.
@@FishingwithRod Ah makes sense. I knew there was something to the sound. I recently picked up fishing. I live in southwest US. I've recently started throwing a fly and bobber. Haven't hooked one yet. It's only a matter of time. I hope to get a fly rod next spring. Enjoy the videos and can't wait to river fish. Be ku brah.
Definitely. We are usually only there for 4 to 5 days which really is too short. There's so much to see and do so a month spent in the Yukon makes a lot more sense. late June and throughout July is the best time to be there.
Thanks Ralph, we had the option of keeping some to eat but we didn't. We really were not prepared for doing any cooking for this trip (no stoves etc). Next time!

Great day fishing on the Takhini with Steve. Very knowledgeable guide. Even if you can't cast out of your shadow at noon Steve will put you on fish.
Definitely!
Great video. So beautiful and peaceful. Awesome fishing. Thank you for sharing.
Thank You Rod and Kitty.
H2O Troutfitter You’re welcome Steve! Thank you for spending the day with us once again. ☺️
Another great video! What a great place to enjoy an adventure.
Alan Job Thanks!

Your channel has inspired me to make one of my own! Have been watching for years now! Never a disappointing video! RUclips journey begins now!
Great! :D Thanks for watching!

It is indeed a lovely corner of Canada! Northern light would be great!
That opening was great on the rapids!

Thanks! Hopefully in the next couple of years we'll be able to make our way to regions where Arctic char fishing is available too. :)
@@FishingwithRod there's a place very close to whitehorse that has arctic char. it's a hidden secret, but not really hidden or secret at all.
Wow!! great video guys. What an amazing experience.
Thanks Joseph!

Thank you Patrickt! Good to hear you enjoyed it. :) Definitely put this species on the bucket list. :D
Tying the dropper onto the front hook. Thanks, thanks, thanks

There were so many stickers I actually stood behind it looking through them all near the end of the day!

you need to get to the other side of the rockies.

Great!
Is kitty packing a lynx in this video? Love the content from you two, it always makes me want to get in the water.
Yes she is! She always has that with her.
And thank you for the kind words!
This place is wonderful to fish, It reminded me here in Brazil🇧🇷 where I do my fishing.
Hug and good fishing always!👍🎣😉
Thank you! :)

Great episode guys! Yukon just looks so amazing! Some of those fish looked really plump. 😁

Great video Rod 🎣👍. Fished alot back in England ' long trotting ' never had the chance. To fly fish for them.

Wow, awesome video! Now I wanna fish the Yukon🤔
Thanks! You should totally do it! Not just for fishing, but the area is just worth seeing!
6:35 salt shaker?

Did I hear Kitty drop the F bomb lmao. Great vid Rod those Grayling wow!!!
What! Where?? lol...
@@FishingwithRod Right in the opening scene running the river lol .
I'm old so maybe my hearing isn't so good :)
Haha pretty sure it wasn't. Something has to be going extremely bad for that word to come out of her mouth. ;)
@@FishingwithRod I know what you mean .
Damn I would love to visit Yukon, but it's kinda far away for me so I would probably be there for good month or two at once :P

i just realized i have notifications on, but i honestly cant remember the last time i got one for one of your videos...
lol well welcome back!
@@FishingwithRod :P thanx Rod! I've still been watching, i'm just not getting Nots.
How fast is the river current there?
Like any other river, there are pretty fast spots, as well as pretty stagnant pools. Overall the current is reasonably fast.
You must have been so relaxed in such a beautiful environment. I like your use of the drone camera. Are they tasty; did you eat any grayling?
Thanks Ralph, we had the option of keeping some to eat but we didn't. We really were not prepared for doing any cooking for this trip (no stoves etc). Next time!
I miss fishing them the pics never do them justice all the colors they have
The big male grayling were so much more stunning in person!
@@FishingwithRod ya they so pretty I've never seen a pic that can truly do them justice
The RUclips compression algorithm and the artifacts it leaves is just criminal. Moving water just breaks it I guess.
Great episode, this is the one I have been waiting for.
Thanks Chris, I hope it was worth the wait!
Great video Rodney, but can you change the music? It's kinda making me sleepy as well as sad. Just my opinion though
