- Talk’s Mike Graham is joined by investigations reporter at The Sunday Times, Katie Tarrant, as the search continues for missing British teenager Jay Slater.
The 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus while on holiday in Tenerife.
He had attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance and was last heard from on Monday last week.
The walk from Mr Slater’s last known location, Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island, to his accommodation would have taken about 11 hours on foot.

@angelawainman7020 I'm convinced that Jay & Lucy planned his disappearance. The Go-fund-me has quickly raised over £30,000, but it won't be paid out. Jays criminal record is gruesome. I don't understand how he got permission to leave Britain when he had a sentence to serve (not prison, but a lot of community service). His parents should have stopped him. I wish they would accept responsibility for raising such a dangerous kid.
He partied for 3 days and nights, with Lucy, at a rave. He had loads to drink and took plenty of drugs.
Lucy claims he had only 1% phone service left. That would be used up in seconds abroad.

At last, the elephant in the room has been outed. May not be relevant but it has to be looked at, as have his friends and family. Why would his mother's first reaction be that he had been kidnapped? Why would anybody kidnap a druggy teenager? Too many questions haven't been answered yet.

The court also heard that on committing these offences on February 12, Hilton was in breach of two community orders which had been imposed on him, one just three days earlier and one in November 2021 which was a two-year order.
Recorder Timothy Hannam KC said: “You have an awful record for someone of your age.
“You’ve had a great many chances to change your ways but these offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence is appropriate.
“This was a prolonged period of bad driving being chased by police. The speeds were terrifyingly high in built up areas. You were lucky the streets were relatively empty."

Firstly lets comment on the company he appeared to keep in spain. Many have/had plug emojis on their open ig profiles. They may admire the beauty of cartoon plugs...but ill let you be judge & jury. Some also try to play the 'no face no case' game, while flexing a lavish life, but that doesnt really wash to anyone with an ounce of common sense.
Although i dont believe in guilty by association, does it leave the door open for possible involvement given the scenario? I see a group of kids playing big shots, in various foreign countrys...it never ends well unless you are cut from a different cloth...ready for all eventualities!

I reckon it's standard procedure with all police organisations to look into a missing person's background as part of their investigation.
There seems to be a mindset in some quarters that the Guardia Civil are not competent to mount a search operation etc. - despite them being a professional force working in their own territory using local knowledge, aided by Firemen, Medics and volunteers etc.

I'm afraid I'm beginning to think this might be bit of a cover up. If it were revealed that he had been killed by a Moroccan drug gang how would that affect the tourist industry on the island? Would people still wish to visit knowing that such individuals were on the island? Plenty of families with children go every year, not just ravers. The islands economy would take a huge hit.

@@leen1q84 Lucy set up a Go Fund Me for Ryan Cooney last November who was robbed and kidnapped outside his hotel near Playa la Americas. He returned wearing two black eyes after his family and friends came out to look for him.
It's a bit coincidental that Lucy is now doing a Go Fund Me for another friend of hers whose mother thinks he's been abducted.
Ryan Cooney is also a friend of her ex Tom Hilton the subject of the machete attack by Jay slater.
I think Lucy is using her friends, abducting them and setting up Go Fund Me as a lucrative income.

Jay Slater, 18, of Fountains Way, ACCRINGTON - 18 month community order with 25 days rehabilitation activities and 150 hours unpaid work. Convicted of s18 wounding with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and violent disorder in August 2023, when he was aged 18. He is now 19. Slater was 16 at the time of the attack in August 2021.
Tom Hilton, who was 17 at the time of the attack, suffered a head injury so serious his skull was exposed, and wounds to his shoulders and legs in the attack close to the Old Paper Mill in Hermitage Street, Rishton, in August 2021.

Set up far too soon for the circumstances. His last whereabouts were in that park, he was dehydrated, hurt and lost. What reason would anyone have to think he was anywhere other than in the park and once search and rescue arrived he could be found any minute? The search still hasn't concluded and he could still be found so what's the reason for a Go Fund Me? Not allowed to search because anyone attempting it would be a liability. It's a scam. Mother says they are not using the money and yet 36k and still rolling with no sign they are going to shut it down. Dodgy as hell

I know it sounds strange but in a major investigations the media are often used by the authorities to set a certain narrative for public consumption. We know the media LOVE to out people and their past so in this case they would have been told to say nothing until they had permission to do so.

Why attempt to walk an 10/11hr walk to get back to his hotel when all he had to do was wait another 2hrs for a bus that was apparently due at 10am. It does not make sense at all no matter how you look at it.

And my how quick was she to call the police saying he's missing when he just pinged his location half a mile out of town and she had just spoken to him.

Other difference is Mosely spent morning on beach followed by 2.5 hour walk after feeling ill. He was 67 and reversed type 2 Diabetes. All in 40 plus degree heat.
Temp that day at 8 am was 18 degrees in Tenerife. At night it's 10 degrees. At time he called her at 8.25 he was just speaking to landlady about buses. Phone pinged half a mile away some time later when she passed him on road.

Very relevant, it gives alternative motives for foul play that most tourists would not be affected by.
His criminal background always has been in the public domain but the media have chosen not to mention it until now. They thought it would make a better story to depict him as an angel in distress.
