Obvious parallels with Lovebites: record label, lyricist, arranger, vdo director. For that matter, I saw violinist Ayasa together with LB vocalist Asami backing a J-Pop singer live last summer. For that matter, drummer Mizuki was hanging with LB drummer Haruna at a drummers' New Year party recently. EoE members are all in other bands and/or regularly do support work-they're sort of a super-group. Ayasa has said this band is aiming for the overseas market. I saw their first live show last fall, and they were very tight, like they'd been together for years. A very promising band, individually fine musicians and a great unit.

    Thank you for your reaction.
Mizukki is the drummer of Lonesome_Blue.
Wakazaemon played bass with Marty Friedman's band in Europe and at Wacken last year.
Yuki is the guitarist from D_Drive.
Ayasa is a world class violinist, had a pretty long solo career already. She's a good friend of Asami (Lovebites) and they both took part to the pretty popular Sayaka Yamamoto's tour last year
Akane was once in a project with a Band-Maid member.
And this band shares many connections with Lovebites, including the staff

This is (as of late 2023) new supergroup. Most of the members have roles with other bands, so it’s not clear this is more than a project, but we’ll see. What we’ve seen so far is spectacular.
The hook? This is a metal band built around a violinist. Ayasa plays a custom five-string violin, which I’d say is metal. She is also the founder of the band.
    Personnel:
    Violin: Ayasa (currently with Morphonica)
Guitar: Yuki (founder and co-lead in D-Drive)
Bass: Wakazaemon (bassist with Marty Friedman and other projects)
    Drums: Mizuki (x Lonesome Blue)
Vocals: Akane Minato (x Predia, several other groups)
They have posted three songs in very different styles so far, all showing off great songwriting, jedi-level mastery of their instruments, and Akane’s powerful vocals. They have also issued their first EP. Definitely a band to watch!

Its one thing I noticed as well. The bass is freaking awesome in this. Wakazaemon is a much wanted session bass player in Japan big time. Glad she found a band to play in.

Actually, the violin player Ayasa hand-picked the rest of the band.

Killer song. Trust me you wouldn't want the short version of this. They exclude the solo section of this song out. The extended version is where it's at. Awesome review

Good reaction. Great first song of East of Eden. Loved it immediately. Love the whole EP. Written by Mao. Is this the same Mao who writes for Lovebites? Great band with musicians from different bands. Big fan here. Maybe you like the song “Hanabi” more. It is a little darker and less poppy. Thanks for this reaction.

Yes it's the same Mao but I would put this on par with Lonesome Blue (Mao writes everything for them as well). Mao's collaborations with Lovebites is a whole different animal. I think all of Lovebites is involved in what he does with them, whereas this and Lonesome Blue have more of Mao's actual DNA running through them.

What I love about this song is the violin is not fill or background but more of the main or lead. I heard this band members are from other bands and this is there side project. Still checking into that. Also this is my first ( that I have seen ) lefty bass player.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 5 месяцев назад

Well, that makes sense since the violin player wrote the song (and created the band if it's not spin, you never know with how calculated/produced some Japanese bands can be).
She is also in the BanG Dream universe band "Morfonica" which is very much into the pop-style produced bands (connected to a huge franchise spanning Gacha phone games, Anime and who knows what else) so it's tought to tell. But there is no denying she is an amazing violin player and I'm sure she has done plenty of stuff before joining that project.
I don't have as much to say about the drummer (she is in Lonesome_Blue as well, they are not my thing but there are plenty of people who enjoy them) and the vocalist (who was in a J-Pop group Predia and the shortlived band Mochi To Cheese with Akane and Kanami from Band-Maid in the early days of Band-Maid), but I have heard nothing but amazing things from bassist Wakazaemon, who basically seems to be a session musician and I love Yuki's guitar work in her band D_Drive. I am not a huge fan of their sound either, just like David, but I have ordered their live Blu-ray that is comming out next month or so and I will check out their first full album when they release one (I skipped the EP).
Btw, if you want to check out more metal with violin, you can check out Unlucky Morpheus as well. Jill (their violin player) is also really good and while they are maybe a little less focussed on her violin, some tracks have plenty of lead playing as their guitarist has some medical issues with his arm or wrist and Jill took over some of his solos live because of that.

@@MaartenT Thank you for this info. I am not new to all female Japanese bands. I only listen to the all female and am waiting for more reactions from David finding more of them. I know of Band-Maid as well as Nemophila, Hanabie, Lovebites, Lonesome Blue, Aldious, Mary's Blood, Doll$Boxx, Alia, and so many more. I am someone from Gen X who grew up listening to 70's and 80's music but grew tired of hearing them 1000's of times. Unlike others of my era I am able to evolve to new music and push away from the past.

      @@COYO-T
I am an early millennial (from the mid '80's), I didn't necessarily grew tired of the 20 years of metal I was listening to but I have always loved discovering new music and I was getting stuck in listening to a lot of the same bands for 20 years. So I after purposefully ignoring some of them at first, I decided to give them a proper try once. There is still plenty of stuff that I am not necessarily a fan of (a lot of the more pop style choruses) and wasn't always a fan of how they dressed, but I quickly was able to look past that because of all the musicianship a lot of these bandmembers have. Also, once I realized that some of the black metal bands I listened to dress equally ridiculous, I was quickly converted to the whole scene.
There are plenty of complaints I have about the way the produce music (it tends to be a bit too clean/produced for me), but there is no doubt a lot of the things the Japanese bands do has been a breath of fresh air for me. I especially love that they actually care about bass playing while a lot of rock and metal bands here typically don't give the bassplayers a lot of room to shine.

This band is chock full of great musicians. Yet somehow them all being so tight and skilled just feels a little hollow somehow. That said, I'm still a fan of them.

I'm still waiting for the vocalist of the band "East Of Eden" Akane Minato with Akane Hirose and Kanami Tono (from "Band-Maid") to joke and go on stage together again for a collaboration
