Hey, when you get into the timing, check your distributor shaft for horizontal play. Mine has some, and I'm about to rebuild an old 009 I had "laying around" so I don't have to deal with that. If your shaft has horizontal play, it will mess with your dwell, especially at higher RPMs. You can either deal with that issue, or possibly the points eliminator would rectify the situation. It's just using a hall effect sensor, so, as long as the overall gap between the sensor, and the collar on the shaft are within tolerances, it will not affect your timing.
I had actually completely rebuilt my 009 distributor. you can see a clip of it on my engine build time lapse video (around the 9:38 timeframe of that video). I don't think there was much horizontal play, or none that I noticed. I'll be sure to check it out when I remove it in the future! thanks for the tip.
I know things can change over time, but I've always understood the two piece tubes to be problematic. Also, for future, when the OG tubes fail you, you can simply pull the push rod, leave the head torqued down, and cut out the tube, then use a two piece to get you by. It's comforting to see others dealing with leaks too! :P Also, "should be able to move the rocker" is the right way to word it. When things get really bad, that isn't a good tell. When I drove across the country, there came the point where several of my valves were never fully seating!
I should have started with the crust-style tubes first, then switched to these 2 piece ones if/when I had problems (maybe I wouldn't have had a problem if I went that route first haha).
Nice work adjusting those valves and thanks for including all the important info. Bummer that those 2 piece pushrod tubes are problematic. They seem so much easier to service than the crush style. My speedo wasn't working either so I look forward to that episode!

@@jeremydoc you can likely feel the distributor shaft play by removing the cap and rotor, just wiggling it.

@@jeremydoc it’s all a process. Keep enjoying that car!

10 months later and I've finally installed my Speedo cable. just for you haha
@@jeremydoc haha nice!! I'll check out the new video later!
@@DreamWrench I made a mistake. My new video doesn't actually have the speedo cable. it's in the one I'm editing now haha.
