- Vlogging my trip to the Bay Area, where I visited Navier, HyperGuap's newest investment. Navier is an electric flying boat startup based in Alameda, CA with the epic vision of turning our waterways into highways to transport people and goods. Their first product is the N30 a 6-12 person hydrofoiling water taxi. Because it flies above the Water the Navier is ultra energy & cost efficient. Founded in 2020, this is one of the fastest companies ever to bring a new boat design into production. They just signed a partnership with Stripe to transport employees to their Silicon Valley offices. This was SUCH a fun day for me.

Firstly, thank you for the video. BUT... if it's promoted as a Flying Electric Boat then why didn't you show more than about 10 seconds of the Boat up on it's hydrofoils? Instead of focusing the video on your mug and the inside of the boat going in a straight line, you could have directed the video on the actual boat, via the support vessel and the drone, showing the Boat doing turns etc. (That's the difficult part!) Americas Cup Racing Yachts make big use of the hydrofoils and also highlight the difficulties of using them.

I just got back from a Wisconsin afternoon on the snow with friends driving a Taiga electric snowmobile and a Moonbike electric snow bike. I sit down with my iPad, and this video pops up. Accelerating the world’s adoption of electric transport - both practical and fun. Dig it.

I’m 40 minutes from the Minneapolis airport if you want to pop over - River Falls, WI. Private wooded trails along the Kinnickinnic River for filming. We only just got snow last week - it’s been a strange winter.
Some additional info from their website:
Open top version base price $375k -> cabin version base price $550k.
Range 75 nautical mi = 86 land lubber miles, take off speed 16 knots, max speed 30 knots = 34 land miles per hour (not sure why that guy said it was comparable to a car? I guess maybe for short trips and you could commute at 30 mph in it I guess if it's not far.)
Charging is "overnight shorepower on 240v" so probably a long time, interesting to consider whether there are fast charging options?
Powered by 2x90kw motors, the model 3 long range dual motor has 2x motors which are 137-194kw so rather more powerful.
True, I would imagine the cheapest way to build the electronics is out of "car parts" and therefore fast charging would automatically come as part of that. It's not as if battery cooling would be expensive when you are surrounded by cold water :-)
There was a guy in the Netherlands that converted many higher end boats to electric using crashed Model 3 batteries and motors. I just can't remember who it was but maybe he was ahead of his time.
Foiling boats are fairly common in Italy since more than 60 years, is it really new in the US? 😅
My understanding is that the hydrofoil design reduces drag enough to make electric boats practical. My first exposure was a Swedish company, Candela. It’s cool to see an American company making them. So you’ve had electric hydrofoils in Italy for 60 years?
Just think how much cleaner and quieter water transport is and will be as we transition from dirty, smelly diesel to electric water transport! It will improve our Lakes, Rivers and Oceans! This is the future!

Haha, great chaotic editing. We were in for a ride, with this subject but also with your story telling. I loved it. So important, that we learn that electric boats are not only a thing but are superior. And that flying boats solve a ton of issues, including range. I live in Amsterdam, cit of canals, and after all the busses were electrified, now all the boats in the city centre are electrified too. Just a side step, but change is coming and change is real already all over the world.

Candela foil boats, they’ve been around a few years already, I think they have two or three models now, and their boat definitely wasn’t that loud
I remember when you did a cruise on the Pure Watercraft, up in Seattle. It was a little quieter than the Navier but not as fast or refined. It looks like it was a blast. Bet it would be neat to ski behind it!

I'm wondering how choppy the seas can be and still be on the hydrofoil. This is one of the reasons some of the boat companies are going with standard boat like BIG blue innovations group.

The hydrofoil concept is very old, yet it never caught on. I'm sure there is a reason for that.
It’s common in Europe for ferry boats. Fast and smooth.
How do you like the business compared to Pure?
different use case. Pure chillin on the lake in pontoon, Navier for transport. Both great markets with big potential. at very similar stages

This was hands down the dumbest decision I've ever made, trusting this deceitful snake and putting my hard-earned money into Arcimoto, Inviate, and Canoo, only to see them turn into cash cows for the elites. Don't believe a single damn word that comes out of his lying mouth. I'm furious, devastated, and utterly fed up with this whole situation.
You claim “every single point of the boat has a redundancy, if anyone of the foils fail, the boat can still fly”… how does the boat continue to fly if the front foil fails?
