Jason, thanks a lot for your helpful guide, i notice that you answer everyone, so here is my problem i downloaded more thant 25 motion array transitions pack, and trust me if i say that there is not a single one withe .settings file into it i mean, is easy to just drag the transitions in the folder you like.. but this is not my case ALL OF THE TRANSITIONS pack i bought, are .DRA file!!!!! this is driving me crazy... basically are davinci archive if i m not mistaken all i have to do is RESTORE a new project with the transition pack, and from there, edit and then moving the edited clips into the main project i m working with. -i m experiencing a ton of problem... first of all is frustrating to open each and every time a new project just for a transition, imagine having to work on a big project with multiple clips and transitions to make -secondly, it's disincevating having 20 different restored projects for 20 different transitions pack, and i cant use power bins with them also -lastly, if i work on one of those transitions pack, once i used it for a transition, there is the high chance that when doing the copy-paste into my main project, it wont show the transition. i know there are guides into the packs, but jesus, why cant i just drag and drop transitions like the default one, or using power bins?
For people having trouble finding the correct folder path on MAC, this is how I figured my way around it. Folder path: Davinci Resolve -- Contents -- Resources -- Fusion -- Templates -- (create a folder caller Edit) -- (create a folder called Transitions), then you can drag and drop your transitions in there and it will load in Davinci Resolve!

the .setting files are what I needed a few months ago when I commented on your video. I appreciate you doing a video still on this topic. I'm sure there are plenty of others coming from premiere that are confused about this process. Davinci actually has much cooler transitions. I was surprised.
I got mine from a different website. It had a file that when I double clicked it in my finder (while davinci was open) automatically installed them for me right into video transitions in davinci!
I did not have Blackmagic Design folder under Application Support but i created it and the other folders. Still it is not showing up in my Davinci resolve. I am using free version.
When I download the transitions from Motion Array, there is no files in a .settings format. That is where I am having the problem. btw, if you go to fusion in Da Vinci, open up the effects, go to templates, edit, transitions...right click on transitions and it will ask if you want to show in folder. If you click that, it will give you the path to that folder. For anyone having trouble. Mine wasn't the same path as this video.

Hi Jason, can you help. I have bought some 3rd party transitions from Motionarray. and the help file is the same as yours. Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates/Edit/Transitions, but when I get to my templates file it is empty, there is no edit or transitions folder to put the transitions in. I am using an M1 Apple macbook pro. laptop. black magic just said since they are not their transitions, there not interested.
That's strange, that should be the correct path. You can try to create your own custom transition based on one of the resolve transitions, then try and find that in the directory.
I purchased a one year subscription (last night) to Motion Array and can not find a single instruction on how to install transitions based on using the Windows directory as shown in your video... what am I missing here? The video and instructions included in the download appear to be on how to insert a transition and not how to install? And the video contains no audio?
Are you trying to install these exact transitions or a different set? If it's a different set, let me know what they are and I can take a look at them. Did you not see a folder in the location for PC that I show at 3:50? It should be ProgramData/Blackmagic Design/DaVinciResolve/Fusion/Templates/edit/transitions If you don't see the last folder it could be because you haven't created any custom transitions yet, so you could add the folder if needed and see if the transitions appear when you reopen resolve.
@@JasonYadlovski All I get in the instructions folder is a silent video showing how to add an already installed transition into the edit. The pdf you're showing does not exist after unzipping any of the transition files I have downloaded. No instructions on installing and the directory you show does not exist on the 18.5 install?
That’s strange, you should be able to see the directories I listed in my comment above. If you don’t see the last transitions folder, it could be, because you have not created any custom transitions in the past, therefore, the folder does not exist yet. You could try adding the folder, drop in the transition you download and see if that works. If you’re still having trouble, I would drop an email to Motion Array, explaining the problem and see if they can help you a little further
Greetings. Do you know how can we leave the "motion blur" box checked for the included Resolve transitions by default? I'm kind of tired of having to check the box everytime I place the included transitions, which I use the most. Thanks.
You can just modify the transition how you'd like, then save it as your own custom transition. Then it will appear in the effects library with the rest of the transitions under User.
Hey! I'd double check the file path. There are several that look very similar but are actually different. You could try to create a custom transition by using an existing Resolve transition and modify it, then save it. Maybe that would create the folder for you.

Thanks man! You should be able to download some stuff that is free. The free items will have the word FREE in a little red box when you are looking at a particular asset. Also if you go into any category, on the left hand side there's a check box for 'Free' and that should show you the free things you can download. l had the same problem with the location of the folder path. After creating Edit & Transition folders. Copy and paste all the downloaded files/folders into the transition folder not just setting files.
I have envato elements, so the effects and transitions are similar to this. But every time I drag one of them to my video, my video starts to lag HEAVILY. A simple one minute video with an 8mm video overlay effect took 20 minute to render. How can I go about fixing that?!

Hey Jason, I've followed everything step by step, found the folder, created a new folder, dropped the .setting, and even though they appear in the effects, they don't load any preview :( And once I drop them into the timeline, it just sets the whole preview black. And the same happens when I export. Its been a week already since I started trying different options. Any ideas?

You might not see the folders if you haven't created any custom items yet. Maybe try creating the folder manually. Also double check you are in the correct file path, there are several paths that look very similar....

I’m on studio 18.5.1 on windows and have the same issue. Trying to install a MotionArray title, but the file folders don’t exist. Did the same thing trying to create the folders, but it didn’t work.
Well some problem here I’m on 18.6 did everything mention here but nothing shows on DaVinci Resolve! I try installing everything on my windows computer and same results! I did subscribe yesterday for a year on Motion Array for that reason but what’s the point if I can’t get it to work!
My guess is that you both might be in the wrong folder, there’s multiple directories that look very similar. If the files are placed in the proper location, there’s no reason they should not appear in Davinci Resolve wants to restart.
The folders don't exist in windows I too have managed to get them in the fusion only page , but once I added to relevant edit and transition folder that was missing . They show On the edit page and are either just black of say media offline So frustrating I even unistalled and reinstalled davinci
I am Having an issue where i can see what the transition would do when i scrub through but it wont let me place it on my videos. Honestly i am having the hardest time working with motion array and divinci combined. Help lol
Have you tried shortening your clips by a few frames to see if it will drop on there? If there are enough handles on the clips, it should allow for any transition to go on it. Did you try a standard transition and see if that works on the same clips?
OK, so I'm a complete newbie to editing, Mac, DaVinci Resolve, and Motion array. Heres' the problem I'm having. The motion array directions that came with the download are not working (the restore project archive approach). AND, I do not have the last three folders under Fusion. All I have is Default Autosaves and Queue. My Templates folder is empty. Do I simply add the edit/Transitions folders? I appreciate all you are doing. I love your videos. I can take a look. For the transitions, I believe you just have to copy them into the current folder, like I mentioned in the video. Were you able to try that?
Sometimes, it’s just a cache or playback thing, I get that once and while too. Try clearing out the render cache and or changing the timeline proxy mode from full to half.

I downloaded some glitch transitions and instead of .setting files, all they gave me was .mov files. I looked everywhere in the folder and there are no .setting files! I've downloaded titles before and gotten .setting files no problem
Jay, thanks, glad you put this out because I thought you were going to describe DRFX self-installing effects. Just for my continuing education on DaVinci Resolve, is .Setting an old way and .DRFX the new way, and Motion Array needs to be compatible with older versions of Resolve? And .DRFX only works on ver 18 maybe? Or what is the difference since I'm just guessing? Is there an option to download from Motion Array in .DRFX? All of my Motion Array downloads so far have been clips, audio, and stills. Thanks.
Hey man! Yeah, DRFX is a new way to do it where it self installs. I'm sure things will move that way more in the future, but there's a lot of stuff that's still a manual install. I suppose if you find newer items on Motion Array, they may be DRFX, but I haven't come across any yet. They basically all accomplish the same thing though.
@@JasonYadlovski it is just unprofessional IMHO for the sub services to really allow anything else to exist much longer on their libraries. Thanks for the video though to solve something that shouldn't be an extra hurdle of time consumption to our editing process. Paying for files that are useless without these instructions is ridiculous and sits in freeware territory honestly...
Double check the path and see that it's correct. If there are no presets saved by you or 3rd party presets, sometimes the folder won't exist yet. It works like that with audio presets....You can try creating the folder and see if that works.
The folder path is listed in a PDF when you download the transitions from Motion Array. For the File path on a PC, look at 3:49 in the video, I show on the screen a PDF that shows all the files paths, that should help out.
You should be able to go the same file path they were installed and then just grab them and delete them. The files paths are shown at 3:40 in the video
Hey so how do i do this for windows. This motion array transitions are not making sense to be honest. Ive tried every route and transitions are not working. Effect works fine though but not transitions.
Nah like from the beginning beginning. Click where the Mac drive is and getting to that folder. I’m not a primary Mac user but I’m using a Mac for DR and I don’t know how to even access the drive. In your video, you just assumed your audience is familiar with how to get there and didn’t show the steps from the beginning.
none of the folder paths you mention exist, I even created them like the comment below me mentioned and still nothing showed up when I restarted resolve. even when you click "show in finder" on the transition in fusion, it brings up a folder called templates, and there is only one file in it Templates.drfx...... wtf is that? im literally wasting HOURS of my life trying to install stupid simple transitions into this new program, Final Cut was drag and drop, I want to punch myself in the face@@JasonYadlovski

The folder inside my Edit folder reads Titles, not Transitions. I'm on version 19.0.2

Suppose you go into the Inspector and do a lot of mods. Can you save it as a preset or something?

You have to download a SFX separately. It doesn’t have one when you download it.

Nothing should have changed, it could be that you didn't have any custom transitions made, so the folder doesn't exist yet....

Hi! I haven't seen that before, but from the sounds of it, I'd think it's a permissions issue on your computer, not in Resolve.

you need to download from the macros section of the site, not the templates section. I made the same mistake

Hey- I would try clearing the cache for the project or all of it for Resolve. I’d also try to change the length of it to see if that helps.

I think they just change the way they require the creators to make the assets. That's the only reason I can think of...
Doesn't work for me, it keeps showing overwrite on davinci for the folder templates. Im on windows.

Try upgrading the the official release and see if that helps. It just came out....

The folders don't exist in windows I too have managed to get them in the fusion only page , but once I added to relevant edit and transition folder that was missing . They show On the edit page and are either just black of say media offline
So frustrating I even unistalled and reinstalled davinci
Maybe it would be a good idea to add Mac or Mac OS in the title??
I am Having an issue where i can see what the transition would do when i scrub through but it wont let me place it on my videos. Honestly i am having the hardest time working with motion array and divinci combined. Help lol
Have you tried shortening your clips by a few frames to see if it will drop on there? If there are enough handles on the clips, it should allow for any transition to go on it. Did you try a standard transition and see if that works on the same clips?
OK, so I'm a complete newbie to editing, Mac, DaVinci Resolve, and Motion array. Heres' the problem I'm having. The motion array directions that came with the download are not working (the restore project archive approach). AND, I do not have the last three folders under Fusion. All I have is Default Autosaves and Queue. My Templates folder is empty. Do I simply add the edit/Transitions folders?

I can take a look. For the transitions, I believe you just have to copy them into the current folder, like I mentioned in the video. Were you able to try that?

mine shows blank anytime i add it to a clip, when it gets to a point its meant to transition it suddenly shows black blank
Sometimes, it’s just a cache or playback thing, I get that once and while too. Try clearing out the render cache and or changing the timeline proxy mode from full to half.

I downloaded some glitch transitions and instead of .setting files, all they gave me was .mov files. I looked everywhere in the folder and there are no .setting files! I've downloaded titles before and gotten .setting files no problem
Maybe you have to use them as an overlay? Were there instructions that came with the transition?

Jay, thanks, glad you put this out because I thought you were going to describe DRFX self-installing effects. Just for my continuing education on DaVinci Resolve, is .Setting an old way and .DRFX the new way, and Motion Array needs to be compatible with older versions of Resolve? And .DRFX only works on ver 18 maybe? Or what is the difference since I'm just guessing? Is there an option to download from Motion Array in .DRFX? All of my Motion Array downloads so far have been clips, audio, and stills. Thanks.
Hey man! Yeah, DRFX is a new way to do it where it self installs. I'm sure things will move that way more in the future, but there's a lot of stuff that's still a manual install. I suppose if you find newer items on Motion Array, they may be DRFX, but I haven't come across any yet. They basically all accomplish the same thing though.
@@JasonYadlovski it is just unprofessional IMHO for the sub services to really allow anything else to exist much longer on their libraries. Thanks for the video though to solve something that shouldn't be an extra hurdle of time consumption to our editing process. Paying for files that are useless without these instructions is ridiculous and sits in freeware territory honestly...

You just copy and paste them into the directory I showed.
What if you dont have the edit folder int the template folder?
Double check the path and see that it's correct. If there are no presets saved by you or 3rd party presets, sometimes the folder won't exist yet. It works like that with audio presets....You can try creating the folder and see if that works.

Would be hella easier to show the folder path so people can find it. Especially for mac users. Can someone tell the path on windows?
The folder path is listed in a PDF when you download the transitions from Motion Array. For the File path on a PC, look at 3:49 in the video, I show on the screen a PDF that shows all the files paths, that should help out.

You should be able to go the same file path they were installed and then just grab them and delete them. The files paths are shown at 3:40 in the video

These transitions are so hokey, so corny, all of my clients would go running for the hills if I used any of them. Cheeeezy!
Haha! I still think they are cool. For paid client work, most of the time I wouldn't even use any transitions, but for RUclips it's all good. 😁
I think it’s different strokes for different folks. Some of these transitions are nice for certain types of videos, and some are not.

Nah like from the beginning beginning. Click where the Mac drive is and getting to that folder. I’m not a primary Mac user but I’m using a Mac for DR and I don’t know how to even access the drive. In your video, you just assumed your audience is familiar with how to get there and didn’t show the steps from the beginning.

none of the folder paths you mention exist, I even created them like the comment below me mentioned and still nothing showed up when I restarted resolve. even when you click "show in finder" on the transition in fusion, it brings up a folder called templates, and there is only one file in it Templates.drfx...... wtf is that? im literally wasting HOURS of my life trying to install stupid simple transitions into this new program, Final Cut was drag and drop, I want to punch myself in the face@@JasonYadlovski
