The composer's self-built home was destroyed in a fire in 1970 - taking most of his folk-music collections and manuscript music with it (the bulk of 300 original works and reams of notated folk music unavailable except through Tveitt's transcriptions). Tveitt was also controversially associated with a pagan philosophy that had its origins in 1930's Germany - which was to replace Christianity with old Norse religion. He was anti-Semitic, and after Norway's occupation by Nazi Germany, the Norwegian government stripped Tveitt of his state pension due to his association with the puppet regime controlled by the Nazis. It was later reinstated in the late 1950's, but the cloud over these issues remains.
+7777Scion Apparently the same fate shared by Jon Leifs. The problem is that Leifs actually hated the Nazis and escaped from them, but his reputation became equally tarnished and cloudy.
@ 7777Scion: You keep posting this same comment to many of Geirr Tweitt's music clips here: This comes close to slander. Without detailed facts, we may not judge him, and apparently, Tveitt is one of the rare cases where the beauty of the music created by him makes me ask myself if his political intentions have been so important that today we could condemn him. To get a little deeper in this matter, we might start with this article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geirr_Tveitt#A_great_controversy.
Hello. GeirrTvveitt is my father and I ave been working to get many of his manuscripts back on stage after the tragical fire of our home in 1970 .. What makes me sad and mad is these false rumors on his «political» intentions.. He was not interested in politics… and during occupation of our counry, he helped many of his fellow counry men and the most distinguished attorneys and jugdes in this country after the war said he had risked his life by uttering so harsh againt the regime. Now, The story is long and «low» souls believing in rumors, has repeated and addded «facts» to his vitae that it is impossible to get rid of.. His interest in old nordic curlure and tradition which was profound and as well as his interest in oher cutures.. He knew a lot of languages. I think it was pure jealosy of some composers at that time of his succses in young age that time that they put out rumors accusing him after the war ended... Well, its a long story.. So please contact me on my personal FaceBook messenger if you are interested to know details.. All the best.. Oh, by the way, this Aurora Borealis is so different than the other piano concertos.. You have to listen to them all ! @@MadMusicologist

7777Scion Do you comment this on every video that's even slightly associated with Geirr Tveitt?
