La fama de José Pablo Moncayo reside únicamente en una sola obra, su célebre y sobreexplotado Huapango. No obstante, Moncayo compuso casi una veintena de obras para orquesta con tonos nacionalistas y llenas de colorido orquestal. Una de ellas es su primera y única sinfonía que es una obra llena de ritmos y colores mexicanos, al mismo tiempo que se integran en una estructura clara y concisa heredada del pensamiento musical de Maurice Ravel. Esta es su primera grabación sin cortes.
José Pablo Moncayo’s fame resides in a single piece: his celebrated and overexploited Huapango. Nonetheless, he composed almost twenty orchestral works filled with nationalist tones and instrumental color. One of them is his first and only symphony which is filled with Mexican rhythms and colors integrated at the same time within a concise and clear structure inherited from Maurice Ravel’s musical thought. This is its first uncut recording.

En mi modesta opinión, el Maestro Enrique Batiz es el más extraordinario director de orquesta que ha existido en México.
Parts of this could be accused of sounding like film music rather than a serious concert hall work, but it's still a well written piece.
Well-written film music (Rota, Morricone, Williams, Herrmann, etc.) can just as well be serious concert music - I don't see where the division is. This is a wonderful symphony.
To me, such a comment would be a compliment because film music is, and has been for a very long time, a source of some the greatest symphonic invention!
@@sergiocampanale3882 Good point Sergio, but sadly film music is today's "classical" music.
In the past "program" music was written so the listener could envisage images in their mind connected to what they heard through the music.
Today's film music is written for the images the audience actually see while watching the film. So to say it's a great symphonic invention is not entirely true.
