    Theres another channel who installs one, I noticed he uses a 12 inch "sacrificial" pipe which he attaches atop his 4 foot sections as he goes. He mentinoed he had to unscrew and replace it 3 times or so I think. But that saved him having to tear up the rest of the pipe. The sacrificial pipe took the brunt of the warping and scraping. The rest was fine. I hope this helps, I have not tried this yet, so if you do go again let me know how you did.

    Hello, I don't know if you have a place close by like an ACE Hardware, that dose rentals?, Go rent an electric Jackhammer. I really need to get over my fear of being on camera and on the internet. I've driven a few sand points over the years. As soon as I started watching your awesome video; I was like..."he is in for a world of pain". You need to auger down ten feet and put a PVC casing down, if you can go further, even better. If the ground is thumpy and resistant, STOP! I've also figured out, if you don't hit water at 12 to 15 feet it will only be a seasonal Sandpoint. Wear I have land I hit water at 12 feet an if i go to lower parts i hit at 8. The Clay layer is the hardest part to punch through. I don't know your place, I can't tell you how deep it would be, you need to go through the clay layer; it is a bitch. I want to see you get this done, sending positive energy your way, don't give up. Jim

    • @9252LIFE
      @9252LIFE  3 года назад

      Hey thank you for reaching out! The pipe drive down extremely easy the whole time. It almost seemed to get easier the deeper we got. Now we did have water well over the point section. But somehow plugged the screen up with the clay looking substance that I didn’t think we had up here in the sandy state. I have been thinking about trying again in the same hole but going down the the maximum 25 foot that the pump allows.
      And being nervous on camera is normal! I am getting much more comfortable with it. When Girl In The Woods interviewed us I started to get a bit nervous! Lol but she did some amazing editing and made me look like I held it together ok! 😂 So make that video!

    I feel your pain driving the well... drove 3 myself in central WI. I had the same driver that Dave used. Believe me.. once you get through the hard pan (Clay) you will get great tasting water. keep checking the depth of the water in the pipe each section below 20 ft... also to clear the screen shoot a 22 cal to blow out the point screen.. of course I didn't have a 22 cal at the time ...but did had a 12 ga slug. little bit of over kill ...but it worked, maybe damaged the screen, I don't know that was at 42 ft of well 2 in pipe hand pounded.. another well 32 ft I hit hard Pan so I rented an Air compressor and a jack hammer made 3 driving bits and curled 2 bits before I got through the hard pan and to the water. Cant wait to see you get the water. I wish I was your age again to do the things I love to do. Memories you will keep forever.

    We drove as well 97' about 12 miles north of Newberry on auger lake coached by a native well driller/driver. One thing he had us do was fill the pipe with water (using the drive cap). The driver was a larger diameter heavy pipe with a hardwood block up inside. When the driver pipe slammed down on the cap (with the whole in it) the wood would seal the whole so the air in the pipe would compress and push the water out at the bottom of the well pipe reducing the friction around the bottom of the pipe allowing the pipe to move downward more easily. The difference is this: We were driving 2" pipe with a drive coupling on the bottom. We were outside with a tripod about 15' high with a pully at the top and a 500 lb driver. We periodically used a sand pump to get the mud out of this inside of the casing as we were driving down. I'm not sure how this would work driving a point but it seems that it should force water out the screen and possibly reduce friction in a similar way. He had a trick for pulling the pipe back too.

    • @9252LIFE
      @9252LIFE  3 года назад +1

      That makes total sense. I couldn’t fit my driver over the drive cap. Just the drive coupling. That water in the pipe would definitely help keep the mud out of the screen as well with the pressure. We’re about to try driving it outside by our new cabin build we’re doing. Hopefully we have some good luck . Thank you Scott

      We have water tanks but in the winter it’s hard to keep thawed unless we bury it. We should have a well in soon! I’m confused on the “deep well hand pump” the farthest you can go down with these hand pumps is 25 feet. Are you talking about those bigger ones that you see at state parks? I wondered about those.

      Hi Chad- check out Lehmans Hardware. They carry deep well hand pumps. The handles are really long ,but not too challenging to pull down. They also have this cool tube like scoop that you can lower down your well and it fills up like a tube. I'm sure you can call them and have a chat. Good to hear you are getting a well soon. I would have put an empty water tank inside the cabin up high and pump a 2nd tank into it. Would that work?

    I drove one down for an irrigation well. First I dug a hole 3x3 then used a post hole digger to the top of the handles, then slide down PVC, 4” I think, then pounded down a sand point. I had to get drive couplings and went through a couple of drive caps. I hit a thin clay layer probably 8”, wow that was slow going, then it went fast down to 18’ where the next big clay layer is. Lucky for me all the water you want laying on top that 18’ clay layer. Good luck, you might rent one of those gas well driller rigs, looks like a big ice auger.

    The hose on my apartment sized washing machine which is hooked up to my tap produces a lot of water due to condensation. I placed a bowl under the hoses (intake & drainage) to collect the water. In a off grid situation, it would be possible to have a water filled hose(s) indoors to collect water from. You could fill up the hose and stopper each end and coil it over a container and watch it fill with water.

    I remember in the old days (1960’s), my dad built a tripod out of logs, and used a chainfall to pull up the well pipe to change the point! One can appreciate so much more of what our grandparents and great grandparents went through! Perhaps the pipe and threads breaking shows more about the quality of materials we get now! Grrr!
