      Iraq Lobsta!! 45 You know the movie, Dunkirk? The planes they used for Germany were not even actual German war planes, yet they looked so goddamn authentic. Everything doesn’t have to be real, just as long as they look authentic and are practical. But I imagine a movie like Midway has to have a massive budget to use only practical effects.

      There is a LOT of CGI on this. Some of the in cockpit scenes are done with real surviving carrier planes of the era, and one or two flying them. But it is 90% CGI. some interior shots on real early carriers, but unlike during earlier films no pre-super-carrier carriers are at sea anymore

      Steve Ziomek Are you sure? Try rewatching it. I thought it realistically portrayed the formation the American F4Fs, Torpedo Planes and Dive Bombers and how the first few waves of carrier planes were slaughtered. I also believe it did an exceptional job at portraying the Japanese Kidobutai (Japanese Carrier Fleet) The only thing atrocious about the original Midway is that the Japanese Sailors and Admirals spoke English.

    WWII was the pinnacle of aerial combat. No complex guided weapons systems, simply stick and rudder aviation. Dog fighting in a prop plane armed with just a .50 cal or 20 mm was an art. Sadly this depiction of some of the most intense combat sequences in the history of American military aviation will be squandered via unrealistic CGI. Dunkirk did an excellent job in a few brief scenes. As a pilot, those dogfighting scenes in the IMAX theatre had my adrenaline pumping as I felt like I was strapped into the cockpit of a RAF Spitfire. WE NEED A CHRISTOPHER NOLAN BATTLE OF BRITAIN FILM.

    • @viktordtz2080

      Christopher Nolan used reals fighters planes and model aircraft... and the result was bettter and better than those virtuals simulations combats (like a simulation game). And the worst is the fact that with virtual effects, directors'movie make overstatment and scenes with hundreds and hundred planes who's flying like fighters in star wars movies.

    • @esmith9005
      @esmith9005 5 лет назад

      Nolan sucked. Your post is really uniformed. Nolan used some CGi and PLENYTY, 90% of what you see is not flight with surviving spitfire, but models, ie standard SSPECIAL EFFECTS. And aerial combat over Dunkirk was about two planes at a time, for five minutes since fuel was limited in the actual Dunkirk battle. Dunkirk "dogfights" were tiny endeavors. midway involved about 700 planes, total of 1,000 sortie (flown) in a single day with HUGE numbers CONCENTRATED for the attacks which were of kinetic levels 1000 times more than Dunkirk.

    • @mattperry5789
      @mattperry5789 5 лет назад +2

      When did I say Dunkirk had an expansive aerial battle? All I said is Nolan did a good job making the dogfights seem realistic in Dunkirk.. And that he didn’t oversaturate his dogfight scenes with shitty CGI. Trust me I’ve read plenty about the battle of midway and WWII in general. Go troll someone else’s post you fool

      Emmerich and Bay make piece of shit at cinematographic point of view and at historical point of view. And Especially, their work offend the memory of the men who's fought at this battle. They want only one big blockbusters. I'm remember that for "Pearl Harbor" a great reception was given on the USS arizona memorial ...
      And I see no real movie stars here (all money was spend for the virtual effects)...

Facing Ozawa, Mitscher had Task Force 58 with 15 carriers. Task Group 58.1 = Hornet, Yorktown, Belleau Wood and Bataan. Task Group 58.2 = Bunker Hill, Wasp, Cabot and Monterey. Task Group 58.3 = Enterprise, Lexington, San Jacinto and Princeton. Task Group 58.4 = Essex, Langley and Cowpens. The difference between 1942 and 1944 was amazing. They’d rather CGI the shit out of it and pepper some B or C list actors groping each other. They need to do more movies like Dunkirk, that movie about Louis Zamperini and even Hacksaw Ridge was good. A Koehler Do you like “Where’s Waldo?” 😂 Around the :30 mark there’s a bomber shooting down the middle of a street. In the background you see a tan car with the passenger door open and a guy hiding behind it (Patrick Wilson telling us all to “get down”). To the left of the car while everyone else is down, me (all white) and another guy (all blue w/white cap) are running and carrying a wounded soldier on a gurney. I only know it’s me b/c I remember filming that scene. We had to run for 30 seconds carrying a real dude for like 17 takes in painful military shoes. Plus it was so hot that day! The blue dude threw up between takes even!

    I wish a bigger studio would have gotten in on this and made this with better special effects. The Battle of Midway was THE turning point in the Pacific, the Japanese never went on offense again and for the next three years they were beaten back to the home islands. When they lost their carriers and with them their trained pilots at Midway, it was the beginning of the end. What Yamamoto said was that he could only guarantee six months of victory following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Midway was almost exactly six months to the day from Pearl Harbor. Shame this battle can't be told better, it deserves to be.

      Eodyn Japanese fighters strafing civilians in the streets, over-dramatic dogfighting in the hills of Hawaii, fighters strafing a random destroyer at point blank range (which almost certainly didn’t happen at Coral Sea or Midway), the formation of the Japanese ships (they’re much too close to each other and not evading), the bombs hitting Battleship Row in convenient sync for the camera, the “Washington is wrong” thing...
      Hell, I could even nitpick the “when our freedom was under attack” nonsense. I know that it’s marketing built to play off patriotism, but it’s still nonsense. The United States was one of very few countries in WW2 that was quite safe from invasion. Even Hawaii was safe. Japan launched its attack to break a trade embargo and gain some valuable territory while Britain was distracted in Africa and Europe, not to conquer America. In practice, the US was spurred on to liberate various countries and territories from Japanese occupation, save China from a horrific war against Japan and protect Australia/New Zealand. American “freedom” was never in peril, although ironically, most of Europe and Asia’s freedom most certainly was.
