What this brother just preached to the audience was spot on! I’ve gone from having a fundamentalist Calvinist view of scripture to a Pentecostal view. That Pentecostal view made me more open to catholic teaching which has me lining up for the Eucharist each Sunday with my family. God bless all my Pentecostal brothers!
Speaking from personal experience, the Pentacostal understanding of the Holy Spirit is a great way to segue into understanding the real presence in the Eucharist, and from there into Catholicism.
Yes, I think you're correct. In my own journey to Rome I noticed that Catholics hardly ever spoke of the Holy Spirit but always about the Eucharist. Then I began to make the connection.
But the Pentecostals don't understand the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will never take control of your body or make you act like demon-possessed fools the way the Pentecostals do.
It’s also brining mass groups of Catholics out of the church into the Pentecostal church. The Assembly of God are literally ex Catholics. The growth in Latin America, Asia and Africa should be of concern as mass migration to the Pentecostal movement is happening. It’s predicted the Pentecostal Church will be 800 million in the next decade.
I think some people are hearing this speech incorrectly. This isn’t about being a Pentecostal Catholic, or a Protestant Catholic. It’s about how the Pentecostal movement helped open their hearts to the Catholic faith, due to the movement being more (unintentionally) Catholic. Many of us come from Protestant backgrounds, and we bring a different insight on what it means to be Catholic.
You have a good insight into this phenomena. The Pentecostal movement effected many Protestant denominations which prior to this movement were sharply divided. It broke down many prejudices about other groups, and helped people know that God works across the religious spectrum to bring people to Christ. This set the stage for more conversions into the Catholic Church. My own journey into Catholicism (though I didn't know it at the time) came through the music ministry of John Michael Talbot.

Me: grew up Methodist. Went to several denominations. Most recently have been worshiping at a charismatic church. Met a wonderful friend who converted from episcopal to catholic. He helped me understand a lot more about the Catholic Church. It seems to be my understanding that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is Catholic confirmation. However, the power of confirmation having this meaning seems to have been lost. I still have many questions about why people make images and have so many statues and such....making idols. One of the Ten Commandments. Also the whole praying with supplication to saints. Scripture says not to consult with the dead.
The Catholic Church does not worship idols, nor does it encourage anyone to do so. We pray to the saints through the "communion of saints" which we all have in Christ. Try studying the context of the Ten Commandments as given in the ancient culture of religious polygamy- human sacrifice, nature worship, idols fashioned and worshiped as true gods. Later God commanded Israel to make "graven images" for redemptive purposes (the golden snake on the stick and the Ark of the Old Covenant).
You are in error also about what the Scriptures say about prayers to those who have died. Prayers to the saints are part of the "communion of the saints." We pray to them as we would ask our friends and family here to pray for us. And about the thing u wrote about idols, firstly pls get what an idol is. An idol is something perceived as a literal "god" or something perceived as a divine being and is worshipped (as in offered a sacrifice) Now in the old testament, God doesn't have a form & therefore obviously condemns the Israelites for making for themselves IDOLS cause it is obvious that if they do make themselves one they will perceive it as a "god" and worship it & that's exactly what they did with the golden calf. I hope I made clear to u what an idol is. Now what u see in catholic churches are just statues and images of Jesus or the saints. We do not perceive them as literally Jesus or literally one of the saints or whatever. We are well aware that the statues are just wood. They all depict the image of Jesus or some event in his life. It is not an 8th sacrament; that's irresponsible language and bad theology. It is important to understand that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not only biblical but also the origin and foundation for the sacrament of confirmation. Highly credentialed scholar-priests Fr. Kilian McDonnell, OSB and Fr. George Montague, SM have established (cf. _Christian Initiation and Baptism in the Holy Spirit: Evidence from the First Eight Centuries_) this as historically true. The reason why very many confirmations today are joyless and powerless and possibly invalid is because the proper disposition of faith is lacking. This observation was made by Pope Benedict XVI. The Charismatic Renewal is the work of Divine Providence to restore the connection in theology and in lived faith. The Holy Spirit is indeed received at every Christian's baptism BUT often it remains a "tied sacrament" due to lack of consent ( a distinction made in classical theology; cf. Fr. Raniero Cantalamesa, Preacher of the Papal Household for more on this--e.g. www.crossroadsinitiative.com/media/articles/baptism-in-the-holy-spirit/ ). Thus, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit becomes for many a necessary second opportunity to get confirmation right when it has been originally received invalidly. The same principle applies to the Sacrament of Matrimony when they couple are wed while in a state of mortal sin (e.g., cohabitation up to the moment), with the graces of marriage withheld (bound/tied) until confession is made through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Once catechesis with EVANGELIZATION are once again done properly as a norm in the Catholic Church--as in the Primitive Church and Patristic Era--the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as a distinct act separate from Confirmation will no longer (or at least, rarely) be necessary.

So can anyone explain to me why I felt like a "fish out of water" when I entered the REDEMPTORIST SEMINARY back in 1973?? Prior to my seminary sojourn I was deeply influenced by REV BILLY GRAHAM and a number of Pentecostal/Charismatic preachers. The heydays of CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL ...! An Assembly of God pastor didn't persuade me to carefully re-think my entry to RC seminary. One of my main goals was to bring the BIBLE TRUTH to the RC seminary. Tragic what is going on the RCC: PANCHAMAMMA idol worship that took place at VATICAN AMAZON SYNOD October2019 and now conservative RC priests being silenced.
I have received physical healing by the power of God twice in my life. These gifts did not stop in the apostolic age, they are for today. HOWEVER because of the craziness and lack of proper leadership and doctrines practiced in so many denominations, they have become viewed in the worst light possible. It's no wonder the very notion is rejected by so many.
@@truethinker221 who says they did? And ... did Jesus not tell the faithful that all things that are asked of with the faith will be granted them? Is there a line drawn in the sand there? Even if Paul and Peter lost the ability to perform miracles that is not the gospel that was preached! Anathema to you, if you think that anything other than Jesus' death and resurrection is any part of the gospel!
How can Protestants quote the Bible against the Catholic Church when THERE CAN BE NO BIBLE IF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND IT'S COUNCILS ARE NOT INFALLIBLE? If the Church Councils which chose the books for the Bible were not infallible they could have placed the wrong books in the Bible. If the Church Councils were not infallible in choosing the Biblical Canon it would only be HUMAN OPINION and it could be wrong. If God did not give infallibility to the Church and it's Councils we could never know if the Bible has the authentic, inspired writings or merely man-made writings. If the Church Councils were not infallible any criteria which could have been used to determine the authentic, God breathed writings would only be human opinion and we could never know it the Bible is truly the "Word of God" of merely the words of man. The Catholic Church MUST be infallible or there can be no Bible!
Yes! And they deny that the deuterocanonical books are scripture, yet these were confirmed at the same councils as the New Testament. So they believe the Holy Spirit was with them when they affirmed the NT canon, but somehow left them when they affirmed the OT canon at the same council. Honestly I don’t think many of them really know where the Bible comes from.
Yeah and actually protestants removed seven books from the Bible in the 16th century. If a protestant decided now that there are books, a single book or even so little as a single verse in the Bible to be removed, most would be terrified and yell ’heretic, heretic’.

We have not become open to Catholicism...infact it's the opposite many Catholics in Africa and south America have become born again and Pentecostals.....
Pentecostals speak in tongues as that is evidence that you have received the holy ghost (since you believed) and are baptized by fully being immersed in water, not sprinkled and only when one is age of consent (knowing between good and evil) as on the day of Pentecost and as Peter said, be baptized in the name of Jesus, not the father son and holy ghost. I see very little way that Pentecostals have brought people to the catholic faith. Pentecostals believe in one God, and that was God himself came in flesh and no flesh sits on the throne. Not seeing parallel.
Sorry Wilma but you don't know all info about catholics. Catholic Charismatics speak in tongues also....did you know that? So therefore everything you have said in your comment applies for catholics too, in your reasoning at least. Totally agree with Howard Williams reply.

Pentecostals tend to be lower income and less educated. Jim Jones who led 900 people to their suicidal deaths in the jungle of Guyana South America in 1978 was inspired and influenced by Pentecostals.
OK, I may not get the point about this talk, but all of my fellow Catholics get this. - Yes, Pentecostals can be fine people and blah, blah. On my father's side of my family I have lots of Pentecostal relatives. Known them. Sincere Christians. But, Pentecostalism is one of too many heresies going around. There. I said it. Stay out of heresy.
We should be charitable toward our Protestant bros and sisters. Sure, they are in error, but it is easier to attract them to proper belief and worship with a little honey than with the strong medicine of correction.
Nope Mary worship or even Christ worship is a sin. "Father Forgive the for They Know not what They do" -Jesus dying on the cross.. if Jesus is the Father in human form, then why does he beg The Father to forgive with his DYING breath?! As for Mary, y'all know not praying to the Creator of all is a sin! It is the rejection of God the Father the Creator! Scariest thing of all about all this? We are IN end times. Wake up!!
No catholic prays to anyone but God. Asking the saints to pray for us is facilitated by our communion in the Holy Spirit. They are not dead. They are alive with Christ and thus more alive than we are

Ignoring several chapters of Paul's writings? Just because it is popular to reject the supernatural work of god does not make it proper, or scriptural either.
The Catholic "faith" is not the faith that was "once for ALL entrusted to the Saints" (Jude 1:3). The Catholic religion has added so much to the original teachings of the faith of Christianity that it can only be considered a cult, a strange aberration and distortion of the original faith.
@@catholiccrayons Examples: 1. praying to dead saints... 2. praying to a dead Mary... 3. Venerating the relics of the dead... Neither Jesus, nor any of the original Apostles taught or practice any of the above. Thus, again. "contend for the faith that was ONCE FOR ALL entrusted to the saints," (Jude 1:3).... the book of Jude was written before the end of the 1st century. We should therefore contend for the 1st century faith, and not a Faith (the Catholic Faith) that took many centuries to develop and has added many, many doctrines of men.
All the nonsensical babbling of the Pentecostals is aberration and distortion of Christianity. They act like demon-possessed fools. The Pentecostals didn't even exist until the 1900s.
It is sad. Destroying families and souls with ALL deceivableness. Glorifying themselves and worshipping a familiar spirt and calling it "holy" to me that's blaspheming the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ.
Catholics teach a salvation by works. Pentecostalism teaches salvation by obeying the gospel plan of salvation. Protestants teach a salvation without obedience to the teachings of the Lord's apostles. If obeying the gospel plan of salvation is " works" wouldn't repentance be a " work" ? It's something we must do in order to be saved .
Look, if you want to disagree with Catholic teaching that's fine. But please don't misrepresent what is Catholic teaching. Salvation by (our) works is condemned by the Catholic Church as a heresy, it's called Pelagianism. From what I understand from your comment, you don't disargee with Catholicism on Salvation, you only disagree with Catholicism in what Catholicism's teaching on Salvation is. And believe me Catholicism knows it's own stance better. Sorry for my somewhat frustrated tone. God bless.

Then why did Paul and Peter stop having the working gifts?
truethinker Exactly!!!!!!!!
@@truethinker221 who says they did? And ... did Jesus not tell the faithful that all things that are asked of with the faith will be granted them? Is there a line drawn in the sand there? Either Jesus meant what He said or He didn't. All these 'Johnny come lately' Protestants are preaching false gospels.
Matthew 28 19 was Changed by the RCC in second century it originally written in this way go ye therefore and teach all nations in my Name it got altered they dropped the NAME which is very important can play with sola scriptures God is against them who wrestle the word Luke 24 47 obey Acts 2 38
Matthew 28:19
"Euntes ergo docete omnes gentes; baptizantes eos in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti:"
(Vulgata)
"Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost "
(Douay-Rheims)
Although St. Matthew's memoirs were available in the second century, there was no "Bible", as we know it, until the end of the fourth century.

I was racking my brain trying to remember where I have heard his name; then he said he taught at Missouri State, which was known in Springfield as SMS. I attended Evangel University in the 90s and that must have been where I heard of him.

It has also brought a lot of heresy and garbage into the Catholic Church
pentacostalism is more about opposing Catholicism than loving Christ
Ahhhmmm you think so?...i agree..
False. I was raised Pentecostal and we don’t even consider ourselves Protestants.
It's more about emotions and bad theology
How ironic that the Pentecostal movement is so similar to Catholicism yet the Presbyterians and Anglicans etc baptisms are valid yet the Pentecostal ones aren’t 😢
YOU REMIND ME TO GO TO CONFESSION TODAY ...

This man speaks the truth. All you doubters and mockers should spend more time in prayer, get a real personal experience, don't assume the ritual observances are sufficient for you. God's Christianity is transforming and empowering. "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes."

Christianiity is Christ the Holy Spirit in us,God is not coming down in a church meeting
Neil Jesus said He will send the Holy Spirit to be with us and He also said He will be with us always till the end of age.
Where is that? The Eucharist. Jesus did say, “this is My body” “ my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink . Whoever eats my flesh and drink my blood remains in me and I in him” -
John 6:53.
If you believe in Jesus Christ then you should believe what He said here. 🙏🏼😇
ALL OF YOU COME TO THIS PERSON TO PRAY FOR YOU , BUT YOU DONT ASK MARY TO PRAY FOR YOU, LET ME ASK ALL OF YOU WHY NOT PRAY DIRECT TO GOD ? DO ANYONE OF YOU REALISE THAT YOU ARE INCONSISTENT? I grew up in UPCI Oneness Apostolic Pentecostal my church is the only one that's makes sense our true water baptism is well documented in the holy word bible read the book of Acts we fallow a Judeo-Christian theology non trinitarian modalists God manifest in the flesh true God. Jesus Christ the Oneness Apostolic Pentecostal is a Universal movement we are true Catholic Church Acts 2 38 Acts 8:12--17 Acts 10:44--48 Acts 19:1--7 everybody in the new testament church was baptized. In the Name of Jesus Christ the Trinity came 400 years latter those who were baptized in Jesus name were persecuted by loving Roman Catholic
The first true Christ Church the Catholic Church ✝️
Hello,Wilma Chaffin, from 1986-1991 I was a convert to UPCI or "Jesus Onlylism" or "Oneness Pentecostalism" I know all about the "revelation" of Acts 2:38 I am sorry to tell you you are believing a 3 Century Hersey you need to leave this wrong teaching before it's too late,& no I am Catholic or even Pentecostal. I am not trying to fight I am trying to get you to think & look at what you have been taught !!!!!!! from South Louisiana.
Not all Pentecostals believe what you said. In fact those that do are a very small minority
Pentecostals tend to be lower income and less educated. Jim Jones who led 900 people to their suicidal deaths in the jungle of Guyana South America in 1978 was inspired and influenced by Pentecostals.
Because both stem from Babylonian mystery religion counterfieting worship of God
Amen 7
Wake up!!
Can't pray to statues and dead people. Only one Savior. God manifested Himself in the flesh and dwelt among men. His name is JESUS.
No catholic prays to anyone but God. Asking the saints to pray for us is facilitated by our communion in the Holy Spirit. They are not dead. They are alive with Christ and thus more alive than we are
People who die saved go to rest. People who die without being saved go to torment.
The movement...like when you go to the bathroom...yeah okay pentacostal catholic movement..yeah i get it now...stop with the protestant catholic faith...teach the faith..the authentic CATHOLIC FAITH....
Is this theology something that Sts. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Theresa of Avila, or Maximilian Kolbe embraced? Nope. Enough said.
Douglas Pearsall It is not my job to deny something that may be legitimate. That would be no different than a Prottie saying that the Eucharistic miracle at Lanciano was the work of the devil. I believe that the Pentecostals have made it a show, however. I still have red flags going off in my head when I hear about this kind of stuff.
Ignoring several chapters of Paul's writings? Just because it is popular to reject the supernatural work of god does not make it proper, or scriptural either.
Thigpen mentioned in the video that Augustine changed his view and began to accept such things after having a personal experience.
Yes
Christmas is a pagan amalgamation that is dishonoring to Christ.
The Catholic "faith" is not the faith that was "once for ALL entrusted to the Saints" (Jude 1:3). The Catholic religion has added so much to the original teachings of the faith of Christianity that it can only be considered a cult, a strange aberration and distortion of the original faith.
When and where was that added?
@@catholiccrayons
Examples:
1. praying to dead saints...
2. praying to a dead Mary...
One heresy assisting another. Sad.
