  • What's The Git Down? Grandmaster Caz Uncut | Grandmaster Caz Shares on The Genesis of Hip-Hop
Grandmaster Caz one of the founding grandfathers of Hip-Hop takes us down memory lane discussing how he went from Casanova Fly to becoming known as "Grandmaster Caz." He explains the genesis of hip-hop and shares his roots as a B-Boy.
Grandmaster Caz discusses Hip-Hop's roots in the Bronx... The roles of DJ before Hip-Hop, and how they transcended to Hip-Hop.
Grandmaster Caz talks about the legendary pioneers like DJ Kool Herc, & Cold Crush Brothers and their affect on Hip-Hop, and how Hip-Hop was born. Grandmaster Caz discusses the social rights protests, Antifa, the difference between talent in the beginning of Hip-Hop versus today, considering the advent of social media, and his NYC Hip-Hop tour, known as The Hush Tours.
Grandmaster Caz breaks down the culture in his day. The difference between the music artists, the drug dealers, and the "regular" dudes... and the convergence of these three sets of groups around Hip-Hop.

Way back in the day it was GM Cas/Casanova Fly that raised the bar on MCing/ rap. In 1977-78 MCs were mostly saying nursery rhymes on tapes.(there were no rap records) and u would hear MCs saying variations of the same rhyme. Yes yes y'all. To the beat y'all could be heard on every rapper's rhymes. It was Cas who started lyricism with a more skilled style of rapping. He came with stories that were not nursery rhymes but talked about things that the streets could relate to. If u listen to rappers delight you can hear the difference between Big Bank Hank's rhymes that were written by Cas and the other members rhymes and see a big difference between the rhymes

@@walkertroy11 Hollywood started in 1970 I believe. Like caz said, it was people in existence before hip hop. Those people include DJs, emcees, and graffiti artists. I’m not saying coke la rock Got it from Hollywood, but coke la rock is not the first person to rap over music being played on Records.

Hip hop was created because of disco and disco music. The beats used were harder rougher and more importantly most of us kids in the middle and late 70's were not allowed downtown to the very popular discos. So herc created these parties in parks and halls for money we could afford.

I personally feel if a later generation made money off pioneering art, they don't owe anyone money.*(Example: Jay Z. He had to make it happen, the Industry wouldn't sign him, wouldn't let him in. He had to keep coming. He don't owe anyone, he had to work work work to bust through) Unless they used snippets or any parts or mentions anything from a prior artist before them. If they made big money, it's a must they give back to who they swiped from.
Only persons you need to give money to is who you sweated and swiped from.
Basically what James Brown said. If you use my work. Send me the checks. Hahaha FOLKS sent James Brown checks, James Brown was cool with it. Get more love when you give credit to who influenced you, because you bring them back to a new generation, and money can eventually go to them.
But yeah the rap industry can' start a pooling retirement fund for pioneering rapper's. Or really influential rapper's that didn't make much money due to bad business dealings, but their work is world known. Minimum $6000 a month. Something.
Personally if I ended up making 100 million I gotta get on the phone, call Rakim, Nas, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, Jungle Brother's, A Tribe Called Quest, Sadat X, Jay Z.... LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh... I gotta send a 1 million thank you check.

@@chaunt100 so many rappers came through with unique styles. So many. Not all styles hit, but many did. Any rapper where you heard them and you are feeling their style... you will take something from them. You will be inspired by their work and use bits and pieces in your work after them. That's what sampling is. But gotta always give/ pay credit if you become a major cash cow.
