- Monstera Tiktok Hack Success! 💚🌱 I bought this low variegated Monstera Albo that did nothing for me. So I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try this hack where you place aerial roots in water to encourage more growth!
Not much variegation but at least it’s growing :) Have you tried this hack?
Check out My Monstera Plant Care Video for more tips: ruclips.net/video/HfOHihb_mGI/видео.html
You maybe shouldnt give guidance for topics you don't know alot about.
@global7113 lol so funny. I thought it might be a joke?
RUclips decided to show me this again, so I feel it needs a warning since nobody in the comments is saying it.
This can lead to root rot and bacterial infections. In order to avoid that you need to use filtered water conditioned the same as for an aquarium and changed frequently.
It also does nothing for the overall plant. If the monstera deliciosa is watered, it will not need the areal root in water.
Areal roots are fine to be cut if they bother you. The plant doesn't need them in our homes. They do fine without them. If you want to leave them on, leave them. You can use a moss pole and then the areal roots will actually have a purpose - that of supporting the plant against the moss pole. Otherwise, it's just not worth it.
New leaves will develop on monstera deliciosa whenever the plant has enough energy to do so. In other words, small, juvenile leaves will show up very frequently, but a large leaf with a huge surface and fenestrations can take weeks to fully develop. Keeping the plant well watered, fed regularly, healthy, and in a good environment (light, humidity, temperature) will help. Plopping one root in a jar of water will not.
This comes from research, as well as my family having kept monstera deliciosa for 30+ years.

what about air layering propagation?
@@samcrackers you run the unnecessary risk of stem rot. Some people swear by this, some people are against it. I personally think you should chop to propagate, and also seal the wound on the mother plant (cinnamon and a clean tissue works great even for heavy "bleeders", it dries the cut, stops the sap from coming out, and cinnamon has antibacterial and antifungal properties). This way, if the propagation is unsuccessful, the mother plant is still alive and healthy, and it will grow back. You can have another propagation in time. This happened to me with a ficus elastica, the propagation was unsuccessful, it ended up rotting, but at the same time, because I had separated it from the mother plant, the mother plant is still going strong. From my experience, this seems to be a greater risk for mature plants with large leaves and stems, perhaps because they require more energy. My most successful propagations have been the cut ones, where the wound is treated with ground cinnamon (or antifungal powder if you want to buy something labeled).
@@dianal3827 u should do a yt channel
Thank you!
Don’t do this. If you take that cup away that new leaf will die. Train your aerial roots to dig into the soil instead.
You certainly can do this. The leaf will not die as long as you plant the aerial root immediately after removing the water source.
how about if u cut the rooted ariel
root, and pot it, could it grow a leaf?
@@uzzielgesmundo9948 No it can’t
But there would be at least one new leaf popping out every week or so without messing with the air roots, so I'm confused as to what this video showed.
Right where my thought process was too. I have at least a couple new leaves a week from mine.
Yup, especially if it's the time of year where they're actively growing
This is confusing for people.... 1 leaf in 6 months is not good growth esp for a Monstera air roots are air roots for a reason. Repot her in a good airy soil mix, put those roots in the mix as well and youl be seeing new growth every 2 weeks or so
@@amyclare5377 it was 1 leaf in 6 weeks, not 6 months.
Yeah the plant doesn't get its size from water it gets it from air
Maybe you should switch to one of these moss poles where you can have the aerial roots growing in the pole media and water the media when dry. They are usually made of moss but I have seen some with coco Coir as well.
Just another option
but how did the roots do once you put them in soil?
I always do that method but some aerial roots will rot when you put them in the medium few aerial Roots will survive in the soil.
@@kpoprak I haven't tried putting the aerial roots in water before, more so, they often reach out to find their own source of water or medium to cling to. Mine tend to stick into any nearby soil of other plants and survive just fine, although a bit of a hassle when trying to repot.
I am about to buy a monstera albo top and middle cutting that has a node and aerial roots (which i heard is one of best ways to buy an albo cutting!!) and since it is really really expensive I need some sage advice! I was told by the buyer that sphagnum moss would work to put the plant in and I saw this hack with the aerial roots and was also wondering if I can place the roots in water!
But what happens afterward? do you put the aerial root into the plantpot afterward or do you leave it in water indefinitely? And also do you have to change out the water the aerial roots are in periodically?
Any advice would help me out Vionna! I really want to not F up this purchase as Im fairly new to plants and never propagated before buuut the albo is on my wishlist and there's a local person offering me a good deal (they seem really trustworthy and have been answering all of my questions so far but they didn't know anything about this aerial root in water tiktok hack).
Good questions! I wonder the same just about. Hope you’ve gotten your answers and your Monstera is well
You have to keep it in water that you change out weekly forever per the "kill this plant" RUclips channel. His suggestion is just to tuck aerial roots into the soil.
Just try it out and observe frequently. Room and weather conditions are very different from house to house. First I tried out with plain water, then water + air pump + heat matt, then water + leca, the roots are growing better, but the best results I got with Spaghnummoss. roots are growing much faster at my place in winter (20°C, ~65% humidity, weather of northern france + grow light). roots are splitting much quicker than in water.
No way!!! That's amazing! Beautiful new leaf! 🌱🌱🌱🌱😲😲😲😲
That’s not a Swiss cheese plant (monstera adansonii). It looks like a deliciosa…. The air root sprouting has nothing to do with the new leaf growth.
Wow, those roots though! 🤩👏🏻
Wow , absolutely amazing.
Best growth
Plant just needs a good watering....❤❤
Amazing 😢
Seems like an easy way for air layering too!
How 2 root rot 101
Wow beautiful 👍🌱
So amazing 🥰
My monsters in only Coco Coir soil and having at least one new baby every week , growing crazy without touching any air roots
Yeah don’t this has no purpose lmao
What a GREAT idea!!! I will definitely try this!
Don't. Just don't
Amazing 😮❤thanks for sharing 🎉
Like, it would produce new leaf anyway....
Very beautiful. I am so excited to get one 😂😂❤❤❤
Yay excited for you!!
@@FelineJungle Thankyou so much 🤗🤗
Perfect for propagating!!
Amazing!
SO WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THEM NOW?
Plant the new roots in the dirt. Very easy.
@@jgilbert19 Or just skip the process in the beginning and stick the aerial roots straight into the soil... Fucking influencers who copy and missinform
@@jgilbert19 that will kill the plant
@@odonski9611 No sir it will not. I have an absolutely huge mo monstera. Tons of Arial roots in the ground around it. That's the point of the root, the dig into the soil. Not a danger.
@@jgilbert19 ruclips.net/video/sasEKn4OqGg/видео.html
I'm sorry but this is the kind of stuff that happens when you put a water loving tropical plant in a terracotta pot. That poor thing is T H I R S T Y.
Amo muito essa planta....
Я тоже !
I want one of these so bad😢
Beautiful!
Thank you! so are you!
Instead of water, how about another little pot with soil?
Um I just cut a few of those roots off my plant is it going to die now?
Beautiful monstera
I did this and the root rotted
I think it's not water that os lacking why that monstera lack of luster. i thinks it's sunlight.
Spot on
Yes Donna. the southern light was too direct. it's been thriving since i moved it!
This shows that u grew a new leaf in six weeks which is regular submerging the aerial roots in water does not make it grow fast or more leaves
I have a well that mine goes into -- those leafs are damn near 2 ft in length (or more).
這方式太好了🥹🎉
Moss pole
A mí me funcionó con una philodendron este ya no dejo de dar hojas, solo cambio el agua
I just plop mine in the soil when there are long enough :)
This would do the opposite plants need energy to grow n it's growing roots it's probably not gonna grow more leaves.
Maybe instead just water the whole plant bc it looks underwater as hell
Wow that's amazing.does it matter what time of year?I'm in the UK.
In my experience, it doesn't matter~
@@FelineJungle ok thanks alot. I've put it in a glass of water Il let you know how it goes.
Nice
Thanks💚
Does that eork with every plants that have air roots?
Nice sharing
Would you be able to snip off the root where its connected and cultivate a new monstera plant?
Only if the roots are connected to a piece of the stem that has a node attached.
wow amazing got to do that
Don't do it ur gonna kill ur plant
I can by far one up this 😂
Mine turned to mush
Artinya apa ya ? Itu kan akan angin,
U could probably cut those off as a big clump and plant them and see if it grows another plant.....
Buatiful
Mine rotted 😭 so i had to cut the areal root
wow... if I ever get my monstera, I have to try this.
Yes!💚
No dont. Monsteras are a bush plant that grow up trees. The arial roots are looking for said tree to climb up it. Putting them in water will just slow the growth entirely. Instead, get a vertical extension such as coco coir or moss poles! Happy planting!!!
@@chynnav5427 Thank you. I will definitely get a moss pole for mine… someday. ;)
Pra que isso?
What's the best soil?
Peat moss with perlite and a little bit of bark u don’t really need the bark
Coco coir and Perlite. Use castings after the plant is potted up. Very healthy plants from this mixture.
bad idea
No!!!!!!
Yeah definitely don't do this. You have to keep that Arial root in that water now. If you don't your plant will probably die.
That root will die*
Please explain your thought process as to why the entire plant would die if it loses *one* root.
Roots are pretty and all....I do love to see em grow....but....you're silly 😂

Now you have to keep topping it up with water, until you get sick of it to the point you just cut off the root, and see your plant go in shock. Good luck
