My husband and I just moved here in June. He is more like you, he prefers not to be with other expats that's why our place suits him well. We have a small mini farm here in Southern Leyte where he can do a little gardening/farming and raising goats and chickens. He has a lot of projects that keeps him busy and active and we are also active in our church. He does whatever he wants to do during the day and takes breaks whenever he wants. He is very relaxed here and have adapted well to a laid-back, slow-paced lifestyle. In the short months we are here, he has also adapted to our diet and got rewarded health-wise in the process. Good and helpful topic, thanks.
This kind of life we are planning to have in Mindanao also soon. Good choice. Same as my man he doesn't want to be around with a lot of expat or foreigners. So luckily I am from remote area of Mindanao😅got our own small farm and yeah gonna start our simple farm life soon... We been watching your videos and yes good and relevant content.
Good vlog Stevo, when things dont run smoothly, it reminds oneself that he/she is alive.. knowing oneself is alive makes oneself realise not to take life for granted, every day every hour, every minute, every second that you can never get back...its a good thing to come to a realisation of reality....👍
Here in the Philippines especially in the provinces people dont care the time to much, they dont value the time they are often relax they dont like pressure..but people living in the cities like Manila they are more adopted than people in the province:-)
sorry for the time sir, this is our weakness especially when meeting friends, family gathering like reunion, special occasion etc. The only way we are punctual is when coming to work specially when the employer is strict😁 but you will still enjoy here if you want to by learning to accept our weakness.
Man, I really appreciate this! I’ve been following you for a few videos and have been debating whether it’s time for me to leave the U.S. and travel the world. I'm almost 40 and my main concern is medical care, to be honest. I’ve been seriously considering places like the Netherlands or Romania, but Manila and Pattaya City have really captured my attention lately.
We live in Manila after moving from the states 2yrs ago and it’s expensive here. If you have medical issues just be ready with cash. Otherwise, the will not attend to your needs.
Good advice Steven from another brit expat named Steven in Bohol. Ive been here for 1 year with my girl, weve had twin biys 9 months old now, it is a struggle on many levels. Youre right the food in the provinces is shite! Really unhealthy, and some things like veges are UK prices! I am not retired as im 56, so i might have to return to the UK to earn money, seriously thinking if going back, it might be easier for us all!?
Ahh your in Bohol. I must visit there, Its meant to be very nice there. I will not go back Steven. Maybe only for a short holiday to see mates and my 2 adult sons but i wouldn't consider living there again
Good morning Stephen. I have noticed on other channels mostly in Dramaguete about expats "sticking" together, im not planning my escape from Canada to live like or with other Canadians or westerners, its the way of life there that is very appealing, less stress, hurry and worry, like you said, that is what is important, drama, who needs it? Cheers
I have been living in Dumaguete for 10 years, yes there are lots of foreigners here but you don't have to share their company if you don't want to. I see so many silly comments on here, a lot of them from people who have probably never set foot in the country. No-one is going to force you to be with other ex-pats, I have a few select friends, all nationalities, and if we bump into each other we will have a chat and that is that, I don't congregate with the boozers and the big mouths, I have a gorgeous filipina wife who I prefer to go out with..You live your life as you choose..
Just found your channel and I subscribe because it’s great to find a Blogger that is positive most others are so negative. I am planing to move to the Bukidnon area in the future. I’ll be in Davao in six weeks to start a new life with my Filipina . What area are you in Mindanao?
@@Philippinedreaming You are in Dipolog? I live in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental. I just recently subscribed to your channel. Welcome to the Philippines
Steven I really love the stories you carry I live in jamaica now same time issue but I am fully adapted I hope to be in ph by jan or febuary 25 just for visit and try to meet a true provincial philipina the only thing I would not be able to live there since jamaica is similar in a lot of ways and have my operation to run here but I would love to bounce between ph. And jamaica when I can get away so will need to meet apinay that's okay with being away from philipines for prolong periods and I would not be able to be away from jamaica for more that a month at time would love to spend the month seeing a few island a catch and eat some fresh fish and seafood
If you coming here look me up here in Mindanao. Most filipina would totally understand you having to leave all the time so that would not be a problem at all
Interesting take on not wanting to be around expats. Have you been able to learn Tagalog enough to really have a meaningful conversations with a native Filipino? One concern I have had is feeling, I guess the term is, lonely. If I don't have anyone with whom I can have a conversation that I can fully understand, I think that would make me feel like I am an island unto myself.
Yes fortunately i can hold my own in conversation here. The language here in this part is Bisaya. Mix of all dialects in one. I am still learning though
If you intend to go to any country and marry someone 12:35 from that country you should consider the way of life. The Philippine people are very friendly. And happy people. Yes there is only one time in the Philippines Not on time Having lived in the Philippines some years ago. Why would anyone mix with your people from your own country. Another great video take care mate.
Yes Des exactly, I met a few foreigner's here that really do not fit in. Always complaining about the way of life here. I simply keep m mouth shut because sooner or later they will leave the county.
Girlfriend drives me crazy we can have a plan half the time she may not even follow through at all but I never know until its time if she ain't ready its anybodys guess so I make up my mind either just don't go either or let her know I'm leaving without her lol I agree to adapt but many times its important is why I handle it this way
Thank you for your open thoughts and opinions on this or that topic. It's thought-provoking. I'd like to know what neighbourhood you live in. And is there a daily danger of snakes or other poisonous creepy-crawlies there? I assume that's why almost every Filipino household tolerates these wild dogs, which act as a warning to unwanted visitors. Please add this as a topic. Thank you
I'll second this curiosity, at least partially. I'm mainly concerned about the Philippine cobras. I had somewhat decided what part of the country I was interested in, but then found out about the cobras that live there. We have our share of poisonous snakes here in the southeastern US, but they can't spit from 20' (?) away and blind you or kill you with a single bite. Not to mention that they are protected and you can get in trouble for "removing" them yourself.
Had to remember this three times before I actually got here to enter it. Do you grow or know of anyone growing upo squash? Spelling may be off, as in not even close. I remember them from forty, maybe fifty years ago. Very large, and usually curved.
The only way a house you build in Philippines is an investment is when you leave it to your spouce and children. Dont build a house they cant never upkeep with Filipino wages. Keep it simple with a mix of wester and filipino amenities. My wife wants to build a big western size house and i fight her on this idea of a house.
Hello and thank you for a video with your advice on yet another possible way to live in the Philippines. What kind of city do you live in and where do you shop when necessary..🤔 Would be great to
It would be great to see something more from and around the area as it seems to be an OK quiet place to live which I myself prefer. In 2023 I have rented a small private house a little outside the city in Duma
in dumagete where there was only a little noise from dogs at night and cock crowing early in the morning but not from the traffic as it is a kilometer or two from the heavily trafficked road and which I am thinking of doing again
Try putting the shoe on the other foot. Bring a filipina to the west and get her a job. Every day, it was a fight to get her to work on time. If she wanted time off, she would just walk off the job and go home. Forget about calling in sick. There is no concern for the employer rules. It took me almost 3 years to break these cultural differences. Now, she gets mad if her coworkers are late to work, so she can't leave and go home. I think it's harder for them to adjust to our style of life than a western to theirs. Now food cleanliness is a whole nother video. She works in a restaurant and has a hard time dealing with food back home when she visits.
I havent been in any part of Europe. Are there no mountains or provincial areas there where one can move to if its hard to pick from any Asian countries..? If filipinos don't say, thank you or any other endearments as much, its because we're not used to these even with our own parents.. also, if we are not thanked on earth, we can get reward (payment) in heaven..
