    When the winter hits here in Finland, wool socks are my best buddies :D not the least bit fashionable but warm and cozy all the same.

      Totally hear you! Constantly wearing wool socks is one the biggest perks of the whole winter for me. :)

    Fun fact. I was in the army in 1998, and the winter was the worst in recent history. I'm talking -35C for several weeks straight with a bone-chilling wind you couldn't even imagine. Up north it went down to -50C. When at one point the weather eased up a bit, all of us were wearing t-shirts. It was still -10C.

    It's not the below 0 temperatures that get me... as long as I have enough layers. It's the +0 rainy humid days, when the humidity creeps through any layers of clothes you might have and goes straight to your bones. I'm always shaking from cold on those days.

    • @VeryFinnishProblems
      @VeryFinnishProblems  6 лет назад

      Yeah, those days are a killer. Especially when you add max power wind lashing at you. Best thing to do on days like that. Stay in bed :)

    You didn't note that you have wear *actual wintershoes/boots* in finnish winter.
    Also, two to three layers of clothes not more unless you're probably somewhere around Lappland or some skiing place i guess.
    -Also, the layers of clothes depends on how warm the clothes themselves are you just use a warm and think shirt/jumper and thick warm pants, a proper winter coat or jacket with collar and cawl, perhaps outdoor pants, i would suggest a pair of thick windproof mittens over a gloves in mine opinion and proper, thick, warm scarf - and of course proper wintercap.

      @VeryFinnishProblems  6 лет назад

      Yeah, lots of good points. I get a bit obsessed with layers until I end up looking like the en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelin_Man :)

      Don't get me started on those things. One great thing about winter. Mosquitoes die :)

    It's very common for young Finnish men to "show" their manliness by thinking that little bit of cold won't kill you. Anyone who has gone through the army will call these kids idiots, and will wrap up warm. By the way long johns or a sweatpants under your trousers are a must when it's below -5 Celcius

      Oh don't be so sure: www.mtv.fi/viihde/muut/artikkeli/suomalainen-terasvaari-lenkkeilee-paidatta-25-asteen-pakkasessa/2969714#gs.hUGAmW4 and another sportsman:

      in short, if you're feeling cold, *move*! Use your muscles so they generate heat.

    I know this IS old video but i would like to add one thing.
    Clean skin.
    Lets say one has been at work, comes home and thinks "I just change my outdoors clothing on and take dogs for long walk" or something similar.
    Wrong..
    When IT IS very cold it is important to have your bloodflow working as IT should. And first layer of clothing IS clean and dry skin.

    • @VeryFinnishProblems
      @VeryFinnishProblems  2 года назад

      Really? I had no idea. What happens if you don't have clean skin?

    ömm who the heck wears 15 layers? you need to have air between the layers. When it was -30 a couple of yers ago I had two long johns (the second being thermal) and obv. toppahousut (someone smarter translate those...) as for the upperbody, thermal shirt, t-shirt, hoodie and again obv. toppatakki.

    • @VeryFinnishProblems
      @VeryFinnishProblems  6 лет назад +1

      Nobody. I have a terrible habit of exaggerating :) And I also have a terrible habit of loving long Johns waaaaaay too much. Soooooo snug

      Toppahousut = snow pants 👖
      Toppatakki = winter coat

    Jatka hyvien videoiden tekemistä :) Ehkä voisit tehdä talviautoiluun liittyvän jakson? Välillä on huvittavaa nähdä uutisia, kuinka ympäri maailmaa on maailmanlopun tunnelmat kun hieman lunta tai loskaa sataa. Luotan siihen, että 12 vuodessa olet oppinut ymmärtämään tämän verran suomea.

    Finland is really not that cold!!

    • @VeryFinnishProblems
      @VeryFinnishProblems  7 лет назад +1

      Samuel Bruun You either have no nerve endings, visit only in the summer or live on the ice planet Hoth 😀 Finland is the only place in Earth, where I’ve experienced icicles on my beard and my eyelashes freezing together. What does it take for you to get cold?

    • @samuelbruun5460
      @samuelbruun5460 7 лет назад +2

      Very Finnish Problems well I live in Finland to be more exact in Jyväskylä and yes it can get down to -20°C during winter here but that's definitely not mainstream normal temperatures here during the winter are like little bit over or under 0°C and temperatures change quite much during the winter. Btw where do you live in Finland then?😊

    • @VeryFinnishProblems
      @VeryFinnishProblems  7 лет назад +1

      Samuel Bruun Ah, Jyväskylä I know it well 👍 I live in Helsinki, so it’s even rarer that we get minus 20. But here it’s the wind that’s a killer. Plus, I’m a delicate Englishman and we’re not evolved for the cold. But, hat tip to you for being so stoic 👊

    • @samuelbruun5460
      @samuelbruun5460 7 лет назад +2

      Very Finnish Problems Oh I believe that the wind there in Helsinki is bad because of its location by the sea and temperatures like 5-7°C can feel so cold if you get strong and humid wind in winter I've experienced that as well even here in Jyväskylä and it's just awful. And I know that in England it never gets down to -20°C maybe at coldest about -5 to -10°C in England😊 and I think that winter temperatures are changing milder here in Finland as well because of the climate change🤔

    You have to be born a Finn so you can handle the cold. No need to wear lots of clothes in winter.

    • @VeryFinnishProblems
      @VeryFinnishProblems  7 лет назад +3

      Great idea! Sadly, unless someone invents a time machine so I can send my dad back to 70s Finland to find a suitable mother for me, that ain't happening :) Happily, I've always got my big pink hat and big, big coat.

      Very Finnish Problems I didn't ment you you, but as people that has born in Finland.

    • @VeryFinnishProblems
      @VeryFinnishProblems  7 лет назад +4

      Skege1000 That’s a relief 😀 Finns are definitely more resilient to the cold, and even I now laugh in the face of minus 5. Although still avoid ice swimming at all costs 😀
