I remember one day him seriously saying that welfare and gov't assistance shouldn't exist because AND I SERIOUSLY QUOTE "You always have an uncle or someone who can help you." And I didn't mean to laugh at him (he was upset by that) but I was shocked more than anything. I told him that my parents said "have a nice life" when I moved across the country at 18 and I only had one guy to depend on, I definitely had no money and was disturbingly close to being homeless. His unsolicited advice was essentially that 'I should make better choices' -- from the guy born into MILLIONS... how did I not realize this guy wasn't blindingly rich until later is honestly embarrassing.

For real my husband used to be this guy until kind of seeing my family and like seeing first hand what poverty is like 😅 he was like it’s a cloak of denial you’re aware of but you use to protect yourself from the idea that you don’t deserve the life of luxury you lead. I’m like dude you were born to a rich family you didn’t know and that’s fine it’s just lame when y’all go “I’m from the mud” or “pulling yourself by the bootstraps” just stop saying your middle class you have a courtyard and more than one house. My family was food insecure and I was homeless when we met and I sure as hell didn’t ‘pull myself up by the bootstraps’ I got fucking lucky 😂 and while I did work my ass off I would not had made it if it wasn’t for the support of many people. Once they kind of actually experience it and see they can’t just like fix it for poor people, like you give them the keys to your accounts they go “oh fuck” that sucks. This is all they pay you? This is how much your rent is for this place? Yes, yes it is. They go oh… and actually see how that affects everyday and the sacrifices and decisions you make as someone constantly living under duress kind of goes. Did you make an impulse purchase because you had a bad day or miscalculated? You may actually get evicted, be unable to eat, take out a predatory loan or who knows sell one of your possessions for much less than it’s worth.

rich people are astoundingly judgmental and stingy. one could say, "oh, well that's why they're rich," but _is_ it though? no.
i went to a high school that was surrounded by wealthy families - nobody who owned a bank, but like, doctors and lawyers and shit. all my poor friends and i would share money if we had it. we would pool our money to get some taco bell to share.
my rich friends would like, _remember_ that they let you have their soda one time and bring it up months later. they'd do shit like agree to let you share their sandwich, but then order something you can't eat. and then eat it in front of you.
it never made sense to me at the time. if i had the opportunity to reach into my backpack and pull out a _wad of cash,_ i would not be worried about a soda. you know what i mean? i can't say i would be showering gifts aplenty, but it always baffled me the shit rich people get mad about. like, maybe join a group therapy to learn things like cooperation and social skills. you can afford to pay out of pocket for it with like, two weeks allowance.

He didn't specify whether his family owned or rented, what kind of jobs they did or didn't have, or whether they had a meal on the table every day. I'm not saying that means he was rich, but he could very well have grown up middle class with that description. I think what he doesn't say is so telling. I know lots of people who grew up not knowing when they were gonna eat next, whether they would have housing, whether they could stay with their family, or whether they were even safe in their own community. Like I find it funny how all the cryptobros always talk about how easy it is to make money because they just don't get it. 99% of them were getting thousands in "allowance" from their parents late into their adult lives and they just lost all concept of money. Like yeah if I didn't have to pay for my rent, my food, my insurance, my car, and was getting free money every month I would be a billionaire because it's almost as if when you don't have to work to afford the cost of living you can just spend all of your time making money that you can use to make more money.

I was ranting about this to my partner because I'm a Car Person.
Lambos and other expensive cars are not investments. They depreciate in value as soon as they leave the lot. On top of that if you're a young man you're going to be paying way more in insurance. Unless you have a climate-controlled garage and can get a collector car of some kind, you're basically setting your money on fire and just signaling to everyone that you don't make wise financial decisions.
I'm broke so I drive a 2005 Mustang. I drive it because I like it and because it's what I could afford. And I get a lot of compliments from both women and men on it. It literally doesn't matter how much your car costs, just buy what is fun for you and that you can afford (and yanno check the reliability ratings).

I would fully believe someone if they said they had covid 3 or 4 times if they live in a family house like I did, but this guy doesn't seem to be the huge "I live with my younger siblings and family still" type, so my guess is he just ignored covid regulations and had to pay the price.

Like, what if dropshipping becomes illegal? what if tiktok shuts down? he's not thinking long term and that's something you see a lot in influencer and young self-proclaimed business people

I had a boss who was a crypto bro once and he refused to pay anyone because he insisted the experience of working there would pay for itself. We were working full time by the way.

People like this piss me off. There are so many factors that go into being someone capable of acquiring wealth.
I was born to a 19 year old, irresponsible alcoholic mother who left me to be raised by her mother who lived on welfare and disability. My Gramma was fortunate to have decently wealthy parents who generously bought her a house and a car, but she was left on her own for the rest of everything else.
She brought home just enough money for us to live a comfortable life. But when I was 5 my mother moved me away to a city where she married a lower middle class man who had a house in the "ghetto". Again, we got by pretty decently.
The problem was that they were both very emotionally abusive. So while they were providing me with food and shelter, they were not helping me to grow into a confident and capable human being.
Eventually they advanced into more of an upper middle class situation so we lived very comfortably.
Because of the emotional abuse I left home 3 days after high school graduation to live in a cheap apartment in a pretty unsafe area with my boyfriend.
I left with what I had in my room and was fortunate enough to be given furniture by my bio father who I had recently reconnected with. My husband came from a fairly poor family so he left home with nothing but a bit of clothing to his name.
I attempted to go to university but my husband struggled to find work because of his lack of experience, medical issues, and racial discrimination. As a result I was forced to work a full time job while also doing full-time schooling.
Yes, I know lots of people do it and get through it. But I couldn't. I was suicidal and questioning my entire existence so I dropped out. In my eyes I was a failure and I still believe I am. But I worked hard and became an assistant manager at one of my favourite stores.
Eventually my mother offered to pay for my husband to do a security course. He received a job for the security company she worked for and things were pretty good for a while.
But life is expensive. We were making okay money, maybe upper lower class, but we did struggle to put food on the table after rent and bills were paid.
Covid came along and I was laid off. But the government started paying people a decent sum of money per month to live on and it was actually more than what my husband and I made! Suddenly we were living a very comfortable life and I began to feel bad about myself that I wasn't bringing in that much money through my work. I realized then that my job was at a standstill. They weren't giving me any opportunities to increase my wages, despite my best efforts to impress them.
Once I returned to work we went back to making just enough money to scrape by.
Then we got news that my husband was receiving a large sum of money from the government from his First Nations band. That's when we set a plan into motion.
We knew that the longer we stayed in our unsafe apartment, the more money was being wasted. We didn't have quite enough money for a down-payment on a house, so I spoke with my Gramma, who then spoke with her mother who was planning to leave the farmland my Gramma was living on to her in her will. My great Grammy then agreed to let her have ownership of the property early so she could sell it and move to the city to live my husband and I.
My whole life I had dreamed of owning a house and bringing my Gramma to live with us. It felt like a dream come true.
But Gramma's brother, who is quite wealthy, took control of the property and only gave her enough money to help us with the down-payment and the other fees needed to secure the property.
Fast forward to now, I am struggling with my mental health, and we quite low on money. But we are making it.
I am proud of what we've accomplished. But we are not capable of just randomly making a million dollars to suddenly solve all of our financial issues.
It's not that we all need to be rich. It's that the world needs to make itself more affordable so people can live comfortably and enjoy their lives. We are living in the future. Us lower income people work hard for what we have. Yes, I was quite fortunate for the help I did get. But lots of people don't have what I did. It doesn't make my struggles less valid, but it does show that we are not all in the same place in life to be able to achieve great wealth. It's all based on circumstances.
This world needs to change. There shouldn't be people out there with so much money that they don't know what to do with it. Money should be evenly distributed so that everyone can live comfortably.

Thank you for saying that $1000 can be life-changing money, and not minimizing it! It truly is for a lot of us. even 100, 10, $1, really, is.

I just looked it up and he went to high school in Canton. About 45-50 minutes outside Detroit.

These people are the worst when they’re like Ty Lopez, where they will go to a hobby, Ty did sports cards which I like to do, and ruin it by doing it for money. In sports cards specifically, everybody, even those who make money from them, knows that you need to spend money because you like the hobby. My motto is “The only hobby loosing money means you aren’t doing it right, is couponing.” These people don’t understand people don’t like doing stuff for money.

I mean, I hope he would have brought his family some nice stuff with his success, and I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he did, but if just be curious to see where they're all at now with his success and all that
