    Your videos have inspired me to buy a dremel and grind out the large flat head screwdriver into a chisel edge and a half round notched edge for romex cable stripping. Now that I'm not intimidated by modding multitools I think of new ways to improve them. I made the angle of the wire cutters a little better since they were nearly flat. I cut out a metal tab inside the surge's handles so the ST300's phillips driver can take the place of the flat bit exchanger. I made the can openers cutting edge and tip sharper to mimic the hawkbill blade of the victorinox electrician for wire insulation cutting. Maybe next I'll cut out a gut hook on the serrated blade like my titanium charge. These have become fun little projects I look forward to accomplishing. Thanks for all your helpful and inspiring videos, Ben!

    Is the wire stripper (triangular one) in your drawing inverted? I mean the perpendicular edge should be away from the pivot point to catch the cable, right?

    • @txtoolcrib

      You know what? You’re absolutely right, nice catch.

    • @Alex_Khouri
      @Alex_Khouri 4 года назад

      Yea, I agree - the perpendicular edge should be facing towards the pivot in order to catch the wire. The general idea is good though!

    My favorite now is the Swiss Tool Spirit. For years I carried Leatherman. I have at least 25 different leatherman, and the only tool in the Spirit that I wish was better is the scissors.

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 года назад

      I agree, I think they could make the scissors better on the Spirit X. It's still a great multi tool though.

      I bit longer scissors, could be better. I can'r see anything else wrong. I wonder,why they did that? Probably more robust and easier to sharpen-maintain? Who knows.

    I’m glad you addressed this particular tool on the spirit x better than you did in your original review. Anytime anyone does a review on this tool, on the spirit x, I feel like no one understands how valuable this tool really is. I’m an electrician and I use to carry a wave + but recently started carrying a spirit x and I love it. Love your videos, keep up the good work!

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 года назад +2

      It certainly is valuable. I'm actually kind of kicking myself for not fully understanding the value of this tool earlier, but I certainly do now. I also wanted others to understand it's value as well. Would you change anything about the electrical based implements on this tool?

    • @coshowoto
      @coshowoto 4 года назад +1

      Well for one I would add the ability to crimp wire but I don’t know if that’s a big deal for me because I usually also carry knipex 7” cobra (another great tool). I’d like to see a rat tail file instead of what they have on all other multi tools. That’s a deep question you’re asking.

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 года назад +1

      I love the Cobra pliers as well. Though I get more use out of the Pliers Wrenches because of the field I work in. It would be nice to see a good set of crimpers on their pliers.

    Another great video, I like the way you think out of the box and reengineer things to a better shape.
    I'd like to see an overall comparison between Victorinox Swiss tool vs Swiss tool spirit, and would like to know which one would you prefer to carry if given the choice to chose one of them.
    Thanks for the great stuff :)

    The alox blade is the best. I modified it with a thumb pin for one-hand operation. I've processed thousands of cables in all sizes with it.

    Another great video! I've only owned my Swisstool Spirit X for 6 months, but I can already say that it's the best multitool I've ever owned. There are a few small things about it that aren't quite as good as other models, but I think it has the best functionality overall.
    I agree with your assessment of the wire-strippers; the large one is excellent, but the small one is a bit hard to use (to the point where I actually find it easier to use large one for small wires). I also agree that it makes sense to swap their positions around and change the shape of the small one. However, I think it would be better to use another U-shape for the small one (similar to the one in the standard Swisstool), purely because it would be easier for the designers/engineers to implement (as they could use the existing CNC profiles from the standard Swisstool). I also think a U-shape would do an equally good job anyway.

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 года назад +2

      Thank you sir. I think it is a viable solution. I also agree that using the U-shaped cutter from the Swisstool would be the better option. That one actually works a little better than my Surge, but it is size limited as well. You can probably do up to 12 gauge pretty efficiently though. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video.

    • @Alex_Khouri
      @Alex_Khouri 4 года назад +1

      @@txtoolcrib No worries! You've made a lot of excellent content..... I must've watched several hours of it by now, haha.
      I think the size limitation of a smaller U-shape wouldn't be a major problem, because it would still be paired with the larger U-shape. Between them, I think you could cut a wide range of wires!
      The design of the Swisstool Spirit hasn't changed for over 10 years, so maybe an update could indeed be on the horizon! I just hope they wouldn't change too much because it's already so well balanced.

      Paul Caltagerone I appreciate the compliment. I’m actually in the process of rebuilding the Surge into a better multi tool. I’m looking to modify tools that are on it now as well as stealing parts from other multi tools and modifying them as well. Hopefully the result will be the ultimate multi tool, for me.

      That's really cool, I wish Leatherman would have an option of a build your own tool, the wave is great but I would change a couple things on it that would make it perfect for me. I'll be looking forward to see your perfect for you creation, have a great rest of your weekend and stay safe!!

    Cool video. I'm a Victorinox fanboy but they are VERY slow to change anything. The Spirit should have a pocket clip as well. Its so slender with a clip it could be a real pocket carry multitool. I put one of those aftermarket nite eze clips on mine, a little too big but until Victorinox offers one from the factory it will have to do.

    • @txtoolcrib
      @txtoolcrib  4 года назад +1

      The Micra scissors are tough to sharpen. I actually use the smaller diamond file of the Surge to touch them up.

      Yeah, been staying at home. Had to go out today and get new tires for the wife’s car. I was surprised at the level of care the tire shop went through to combat this thing. They had roped off their counter and had a single credit card machine set up about 4 feet away from the counter. On top of that, the guy on the counter would wipe down everything after every customer, though there weren’t many customers. Never seen anything like it, but this thing is pretty serious. I’m hoping we see a significant drop off once warmer weather hits. I guess only time will tell. How bout you guys?

      TX Tool Crib it’s just me & my two teenagers (widower). They’re happy to be out of school in a way but miss their friends. The staying in is starting to grind on them. It’s getting to me too ha ha. We’ve used the opportunity to spend lots of time hanging out together, talking, walks, some little home projects and more. We even watch your channel together sometimes. All in all, we’re good - and extremely blessed. Just waiting for this storm to pass. I hope best for all out there seeing this.
