It's important to note that 'meditating' doesn't necessarily mean sitting quietly in one spot for 10 to 15 mins. You can mediate on your own thoughts as they happen, and reflect on how they controlled your actions when doing repeative tasks like vacuuming a floor, cooking dinner, pumping gas, or just walking. It's about viewing yourself as a third person and being honest with your faults and creating solutions to things that you don't like about yourself. I am a 42 year old Autistic man who's been practicing 'Mindfulness for the last 30 years as a self defense mechanism against my own emotional responses to things that didn't make sense. I just called it Being Honest With Myself, And Trying To See Things From Their Perspective. Which turns out is Empathy Practice to others and yourself, cause you don't do yourself any favors by not understanding why you do things either.
Yes, it is a continuous process of being aware, not of setting aside a half hour in your room, during which you focus on awareness, then slip back into default for the rest of the day and night....
i feel like i've gotten my health in order by being mindful. taking moments to pause and really think about how your feeling, you really develope an intuitive sense about whats actually good for you.
Mindfulness is being aware of your internal world. This awareness allows for a buffer between stimulus and response. This makes a (mindless) reaction turn into a (mindful) response. This buffer is where stillness is found and therefore your power of choice. This links closely to the idea of 1 second decisions. This space is what allows you to take ownership of those one second decisions. For example, running a long distance and the urge to quit comes up but you instead push on.
I can say that incorporating mindfulness into our daily lives, we can develop a powerful tool for transforming our minds, bodies, and relationships. That's why mindfulness is indeed a superpower!
N Dawkins Not really, majority of the people do not know the right ways to teach this, you first have to live this in order to teach it, and hardly anyone does, because you intellectually know about this doesn't mean you are it.
Just finished my dissertation on mindfulness , and can confirm it's bloody good stuff! Helps with anxiety, stress, insomnia, and even pain management in cancer patients.
I love it when he says "shouldn't i get angry sometimes?". Because of Mindfullnes i could control my anger and choose not to act agressive, but sometimes in life is actually better to act agressive. But i have so much control over it that acting agressive felt like acting, its feel very weird. By the way Mindfullnes does feel like a superpower, being able to feel how the chemicals of stress are being release in your brain and your mind becoming clouded is very surreal.
i disagree and believe mindfulness is actually mindlessness. Just as the Ying Yang goes there must be a balance between the two, negativity can offer alot of self reflection and constructive criticism. We live in a very narcissistic world where "mindfulness" can do more harm than good, when you consider the hard truth to face that we are all addicted to short term pleasures and rewards you realize that maybe it isnt good to focus on solely the present and the things that make us feel good and that you need negative reflection to change the things you hate about yourself that you know deep down need to change. Simply giving into the world is NOT a power its giving up, it being a sheep! Focusing on the good more than the bad is not how you master life. I believe this "mindfulness" is being used to further push the masses into impulsive short term thinking.
I think it’s accepting failure and not letting failure stop you but learning from it making plans and let mindfulness be apart of the execution to flow though but that’s what think I entant know your thoughts tho
Can confirm, exactly how I feel about meditation since I started doing it in yoga classes a few months ago. It's a big life skill everyone should be aware of.
In this case, fear is a very gripping and important reaction. Anger at someone for putting us in danger is completely normal. I believe gratitude, acceptance and learning are important when we've had a scary event. Meditating The same day is best before resentments set in and shut out gratitude and learning. Love the video.
We have started focusing on it in my school (high school). Current generation of kids are showing themselves to be one of the most anxious generations of kids to walk the earth . . . and this should be no surprise to us given all of the "things" we have given them to help fill their heads with a nonstop swirl of voices, stories, and thoughts; clouding their access to that innate self of wisdom and compassion (especially when it comes to an ability to apply that wisdom and compassion to themselves). I agree with the video . . . I am sure we will begin to see this become more of a mainstream practice happening in schools to counteract the anxious mind that our current society eases the minds of its young into.
beautiful animation, the guy (Dan I think) has a voice of a god and most importantly you don't sugar coat the concept and meaning of meditation but rather connect and speak to the audience in a personal manner. Dan ur the man.
As adorable as the cartoon its self was. The thoughtfulness and all that jazz put in to making such an amazing and positive / very cute, video. Loved this 💕
This is a very enjoyable albeit superficial description of Mindfulness, which is considerably more than self-awareness. By this narrow but popular definition, a soldier, or the head of a major corporation which pollutes and uses slave labour, could be mindful. Mindfulness also must include a deeper awareness of how all of our actions affect others, seen and unseen, and includes how and what we consume, and how we make our living. Mindfulness is one part of the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path, and must be practiced along with the other aspects to bring the greatest benefit to all. May all beings in all realms find happiness.
Xeno What?? Those are the foundation of meditation, wake up! You cannot know how to meditate without studying from great beings who came to help us, who do you think you are? You are nobody please.
Well yea, the Buddha was a man who found the way to happiness and complete fulfillment, that is by living in the present through mindfulness, loving kindness and moderation. It also means that, one can't be fully happy and mindful if you're living a lie, like if you steal, cheat, indirectly hurt others through your day to day living, over indulge and get addicted, live in denial, etc... But just to begin with, mindfulness can also be practiced through mindful walking, mindful eating, mindful drinking, anything... the more you incorporate it in your life, the better...
I had to watch this for school but actually really liked it. I started meditation guided by youtube hypnosis videos (some of them are bad, I know, but some of them are life changing! The Michael Sealey ones without the rain/storms are fantastic) and I swear it's changed so much about how I approach feeling anxious and depressed. It's an amazing life tool to practice. Great video! The animation was really cool too and I'd probably watch more content with this character/voice.
I have some experience with mindfulness and I have to say this is a delightful introduction to anyone new, who wants to understand why this is not some high-flying witchcraft. It’s an ability to take care of yourself, out of love and kindness, and therefore also helping you exist around other people.

I hope that we are not headed to a place where meditation and mindfulness are things that we feel guilty about if we don't practice them. But maybe we are. I do mindfully leave "taking the meds your doctor prescribes" off the list of unqualified "no-brainers".
You may define 'meditation' by your own, not necessarily as it said. Please aim yourself to your own mindfulness by getting it with your most choosen and suitable action 🙌
Love this and would like to use it with my students but wish it didn't say "I'm pissed"....not really something I like to say to or in front of children. Wondering if you might be willing to change it?? Thanks for considering.
I don't mean to sound heartless towards your comment, but its really not that bad, the way the world is going, kids need a little bit of pg-13 exposure every now & then . You don't wanna shelter them too long, I seen through my own siblings that it can create someone who is scared of the "real world" when you censor everything small like that. Because when they grow up and other adults expect them to know about it, that will be their first time hearing/seeing whatever it is you censored now and they will overreact greatly. So I suggest you either accept this for what it is, or find another video. But I'm glad that you like the video and want to share it to inform others.
For me, mindfulness is not just responding intelligently to things that happen in my life. It is more about living in the moment and not letting worry and fear of the future cause undue stress.
Meditation =mindfulness. I agree with this video. Meditation has helped me in certain aspects of my life, enabling me to understand why im feeling what im feeling.
Excuse me, but the scientists and the medical doctors had to catch-up with the public. I ran for health in 1969, and a doctor on the street while I was running told me that it was bad for me. I told a doctor in 1965 that I exercised, and he told me that it would give me an enlarged heart.

I hope that we are not headed to a place where meditation and mindfulness are things that we feel guilty about if we don't practice them. But maybe we are. I do mindfully leave "taking the meds your doctor prescribes" off the list of unqualified "no-brainers".
rwyckoff You should feel guilty, yes.
You may define 'meditation' by your own, not necessarily as it said. Please aim yourself to your own mindfulness by getting it with your most choosen and suitable action 🙌
Wow awesome God. Thanks for sharing impactful teaching 🎉
Best animated video on mindfulness I've found yet. Plugging this in a video 🤙
I love this video, it teaches you but gives some laughs also
For me, mindfulness is not just responding intelligently to things that happen in my life. It is more about living in the moment and not letting worry and fear of the future cause undue stress.
Frank sent me.
susan sent me 😭
Meditation =mindfulness. I agree with this video. Meditation has helped me in certain aspects of my life, enabling me to understand why im feeling what im feeling.
Junelle Balanon Actually you cannot meditate if you're not mindful. Mindfulness must be practised every moment.
i meant meditation has helped me to be mindful, but I try now these days to be mindful, like during traffic and im late for something haha.
"I'm pissed :o"
Excuse me, but the scientists and the medical doctors had to catch-up with the public. I ran for health in 1969, and a doctor on the street while I was running told me that it was bad for me. I told a doctor in 1965 that I exercised, and he told me that it would give me an enlarged heart.
you know when something's so positive it feels like it drains you?
jus'sayin'.

Merrick. That's not a very mindful response. Some people, including me, think mindfulness is over-hyped crap.
You are soul i mean you could try it tho..
Short, simple, on point, perfect.
Something about his voice just doesn’t sound genuine
Mindfulness is a way of responding to things happening around wisely and also I believe in meditation
Mindfulness is ability to take total control on things happening around you without hurting any.
everyone should practice mindfullness it helped me soo much with being less stressed
I've watched this video 100's of times (I use it at work) and I find something new or interesting (or funny!) each time
Anger is normal when you're in control of it and not being controlled by anger
Yes. YES. YESSSSSS.
Thank you so much for making this for all the unmindful people out there. It really is a superpower.
I have seen so many videos on Meditation... This video is whole new level of creativity.... 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤❤
I immediately recognized Dan Harris’s voice, since I once listened to his audiobook about meditation which he read.
Thank you so much for this great lesson.
