This is AWSOME information! Thank you soooo much. Planned to do this last year, but snowmageddon stopped. I’m 60 this year and I am going! I just subscribed and will check out your site and newsletter.

Absolutely incredible content. I just secured a permit with a July 4 start date out of Happy Isles and this info will help me so much. Thank you!

Thank you so much for putting this together! I am a slow hiker dreaming of a JMT thru hike and that southern portion really concerned me. I always hear about the Kearsarge pass resupply, but never heard about going over Bishop pass to Parchers Resort. That is such good info and all the sudden makes the trail a bit more attainable in my mind. Thank you again for putting this together. And for realizing that not everyone can or wants to hike 15 (or more!) miles per day! Here's to dreaming of the future!

Woo! Yes, that southern portion can be intimidating! I haven't personally done Bishop Pass but I have heard it is beautiful. Glad that this is helping your planning!

Thank you!! Best resource I've found on this topic. And the spreadsheet is genius!

Thank you for this. Do you think it’s possible to do a SOBO hike without mailing resupplies - just by buying backpacking food at these resupply stops?

So to stay at Mount Williamson Motel, I’d have to know exactly which day I’d be getting there, I assume?

Thie one was very helpful. Thank you a lot!
I've heard that "Muir Trail Ranch" is probably closed in June '23. I will enter the Trail from "Cottonwood Lakes" (NOBO) on Tuesday 20th June 2023. How would you resupply the first half of the trail if "Muir Trail Ranch" is indeed closed? I would appreciate any recommendation.
Btw do you know about other sites which will probably not opened in June? What to do on the trail if planned resupply options are unavailable and therefore starving kicks in? Is this reason enough for an emergency?

Yes, as of now MTR has said that they will begin services July 1.
If you were to stop in Independence, onion valley trailhead to Vermillion Valley Resort is ~100 miles (although I am not certain of the VVR open date).
If you wanted to split up those 100 miles, Onion Valley Trailhead to to Parcher's resort is ~53 miles, and then Parcher's resort to VVR is about 60.

Hi Erin- I am 100% certain that it is probably user error on my part, but I cannot get the + signs on the mileage spreadsheet to open. Are there any tips that you can give me to get these to open? Thanks!

Turns out, it wasn't user error, but thank you for being so gracious! For view only it turns out you can't expand the rows, but I've edited the sheets so that everything is expanded and you should be able to view all! Thank you for bringing this to my attention :)

These tools are a great idea if they worked! I'm sorry to say that none of the spreadsheet (Google Sheets?) miles per day, little plus icons worked for either SOBO or NOBO. I'm on Win 11 Pro if that helps
