      That one struck me also....ha ha....I do wish my Jewish friends would at least attempt to read the 4 Gospels of Christ....then they would learn that Jesus never ever referred to himself as a Christian...in fact Jesus Christ never used the word Christian as it was a word and description that was created after the ministry of Christ on this earth....in fact it was a term created by non believers in Jesus to describe the growing community of believers at that time....indeed the term Christian itself is only used 3 times in the whole New Testament.

      Not so fast, Stimul. While I agree that as an historical fact Xtianity had not yet developed while J was preaching, the intention of the assertion that he "converted to Xtianity" is a way of saying that he taught principles which are anathema to Judaism and therefore like developing a new religion.
      What are those principles? Among many others: "No man may come to the Father but through me." This is a obrogation of one of the most fundamental commandments, that "You shall have no other G-ds before me." Judaism requires keeping kosher, keeping the Sabbath and honoring one's parents. J taught that these commandments dont apply.
      So while your observation is corect in only the most narrow sense, taking a more bird's eye view of his approach to Torah does reveal a step toward a new, fundamentally non-Jewish, path.

    Dude at 2:29: "Jesus can't be the Messiah...because he became a Christian."
    Sorry, but at what point did Jesus ever, EVER become a convert to Christianity? Jesus was a Jew through the span of his adult life. Does anyone really think he'd pray to himself to intercede on his own behalf with God?
    I'm not a theological scholar or anything but that's really hard for me to buy into. But it seems to come up again and again with the circles of the orthodox and ultra-orthodox religious Jews who usually have extensive exposure to Talmudic studies or to the opinions of communities who make Talmudic study their primary practice. I have never once heard this position taken by any of my friends or associates who are reform or conservative Jews.
    This is very similar to the kind of foolishness I hear from the fundamentalist Christian community when they speak about topics like Dominionism and the Rapture - hot-housed ecumenical idiocy that can manifest in closed religious organizations with strong preconceptions and highly dogmatic interpretations of scripture/text.

    I see that jews are not very educated about christianity... everybody says: he became christian, he is an apostate, he didnt believe in torah etc etc..... well no, Jesus did not become christian, he did not invent christianity.... the people who kept following him after he was crucified called themselves christian.... Jesus´aim was not to create a new faith system... he was a Jew, he was a mesiah and he came to update the faith that was originally in.... the jews denied him and his teachings so for those who wanted to follow his teachings- they had to split from the original jews and create the new one.... jesus was actually very knowledgable about torah... he used to have passionate discussions with rabbis... part of the christian bible is the old testament and the new testament....not just the new testament... the reason why christians did not throw the old testament to trash and just kept the new testament as their new Bible is, that the old testament is important too... it says what was before the messiah came, and the new testament say what was after the messiah came... and Jesus couldnt be an apostate, because he was born and he died as a Jew.. he never said : create a new religion and call it christianity..... it is just what people started calling themselves

      Jews think He did abolish the Torah because let's face it, over 90% of the Christian world has nothing to do with the Torah. All the doctrines (and all of them are FALSE) teach that the Torah was abolished and they only need faith. Of course, they take Paul's references and twist the scriptures to justify it when Paul never meant to, he was referring to those who wanted to be justified by works alone.

      Not really. Jesus actually teached tons of rabbinical traditions, especially from Beit Hillel in the Sermon of the Mountain. He had a beef with the Pharisees because he wanted to be recognized by them and saw it wasn't happening, so he started to criticize them and even accusing them of bad faith.
      Karaite Jews realized that they also had to develop traditions to fill the gap (since Sola Scriptura is clearly not good enough) and they learned to respect the rabbinical traditions; they just do not follow them, since now they have their own traditions.

    As an ahteist who is learning Judaism, this is what I've read :
    Jesus cant be accepted by jews because his messianic characteristics don't add up
    -The messiah is supposed to bring an era of peace, love, compassions etc, which absolutely didn't happen
    -In jewish conceptions, nobody can't be g.od, not even the messiah, neither being the only son of g.od, in the jewish conception of the world, every human is the son of g.od
    However, some jewish scholars admited the importance of Jesus (Yeshua or Yehoshoua). Maimonides said that through christianism, g.od have transmited most of the important elements of the message of judaism , you can see christianism as an imported version of judaism just like buddism is with hinduism.

      Ha, I detect some sarcasm! All good man, all good. The verses I'm talking about speak of a Servant of God chosen by God to do great things. Here they are:
      Isaiah 49:5-6 (NIV):
      And now the LORD says --- he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength --- he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth."
      Isaiah 49-7 (NIV):
      This is what the Lord says --- the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel --- to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: "Kings will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you."
      Isaiah 52:13-15 (NIV):
      See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him --- his appearance was so disfigured beyond human likeness --- so he will sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.
      Isaiah 51:4-5 (NIV):
      "Listen to me, my people; hear me, my nation: Instruction will go out from me; my justice will become a light to the nations. My righteousness draws near speedily, my salvation is on the way, and my arm will bring justice to the nations.

    • @meme-bd5hk
      @meme-bd5hk 6 лет назад +7

      elConsciente NY, you were correct in noting the sarcasm but I feel it is warranted. The claim that jesus is the subject is without any basis & so when somebody seeks to insert jesus into the Passages in Isaiah, it behooves me to point out that this is the farthest thing from Isaiah's intention. Yes, there is a servant of God and that is precisely the point. The servant is not identified as the Messiah and so to insert it as being the Messiah is without merit. In fact the servant IS identified as ISRAEL quite a number of times by God in the book of Isaiah. However in chapter 49:5/6 the person spoken there as being a light to the nations is none other than Isaiah himself. Notice the word "me" is used by the Prophet Isaiah. Btw... I suggest you stop using Christian translations of Hebrew Scriptures. They are faulty to the max. Literally thousands of mistakes are made by them. I have seen this myself because I am a Hebrew speaker. I suggest you use Judaica Press translation & if too expensive (though it can be found online as well on the chabad website which is chabad . org (no spaces) ) you might try ArtScroll Publications. No translation is perfect but these are the best. Btw... I retract my earlier statement that I never saw the word Messiah in Isaiah. I actually did see it once. God in Isaiah refers to His messiah Koresh (Cyrus) in chapter 45:1. I apologize for the mistake.

    • @elconscienteny6028
      @elconscienteny6028 6 лет назад +6

      1) It's my understanding that in Rabbinical writings such as those of Maimonides there is the concept of a "Suffering Servant" as Messiah and a Messiah that would be a light to the nations. So for you to say that the "servant" does not represent the Messiah is an outright OPINION of yours. The passage is up for interpretation, and just by anybody reading it one can sense that this "servant" is destined to do great things. So please save me the "oh you christians twist scripture" argument.
      2) Yes the servant is identified as Israel in some passages but then in others the servant is clearly identified as a person. Why would God make that distinction if it was not important, why not just call the servant Israel throughout the whole Book of Isaiah? It is clear that the passages are talking about a person when it speaks of "disfigured face" and so on.
      3) I don't know Hebrew so I would appreciate it if you would post YOUR translation for the world to see before stating that the scriptures that I posted were mistranslated. That said I will look into the bible versions mentioned as I am only looking for TRUTH. One day I will take it upon myself to learn Hebrew so I can read the Dead Sea Scrolls myself. It should be noted that the very first Christians were Hebrew speakers like you. They were Jewish like Yeshua so there were no issues of translation. A gentile like myself knows your scriptures because of early believers that took it upon themselves to spread the gospel to the world.
      4) The "me" you mentioned has to refer to the spoken SERVANT mentioned throughout Isaiah. I believe it's part of the prophet Isaiah's prophecy because Isaiah was not a light to the nations. The only one who currently fits that description is Yeshua. I have to point out that it's 2018 and Israel is a powerful nation celebrating its 70th anniversary, the tribes of Israel are being restored, and the Hebrew scriptures have travelled the world. Many of the prophecies have been fulfilled.
      5) I'm well aware that many Jewish people believed that Cyrus was the coming Messiah in ancient times. Do you think he's the Messiah? If not then who do you think is the Messiah and why? Thanks

    Jesus never said he was equal to God - John 14:28
    Jesus didn't deny the Torah - Matthew 5:17
    Jesus was an expert in the Torah - Luke 2:41-52
    Jesus was a Jew - Matthew 1:1-17
    Jesus did practice Judaism until his death - Matthew 26:17, Luke 4:17-21

      Jesus claims to be the first and the last, a statement used by God in the bible to affirm his divinity. The metaphorical description of Jesus in the first chapter of Revelations matches that of God in the book of Daniel. There are plenty of places where Jesus alludes to himself being divine, which is in starkly ironic to Old Testament teachings.

    • @craigtitusfitness2249
      @craigtitusfitness2249 6 лет назад

      You're going to have to quote scriptures so I can refer to them. Rev 1:8 says "I am the Alpha and the Omega", says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
      "Almighty" refers to God, not Jesus, as Jesus does not have complete power, but only that which God has given him.

    • @MrEVAQ
      @MrEVAQ 6 лет назад +6

      In Revelations 22:14 the same statement of the alpha and omega is repeated, and in Revelations 22:16 it is revealed that Jesus is the one speaking, so there seems to be some implicit references by Jesus himself to being divine.
      In Revelations 1:14 " The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow", while in Daniel 7:9 "His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool."
      There are some clear parallels. Jesus is claiming to be God.

    Isaiah 53
    1 Who has believed our message
    and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
    2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
    and like a root out of dry ground.
    He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
    nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
    3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
    a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
    Like one from whom people hide their faces
    he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
    4 Surely he took up our pain
    and bore our suffering,
    yet we considered him punished by God,
    stricken by him, and afflicted.
    5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
    the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
    and by his wounds we are healed.
    6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
    each of us has turned to our own way;
    and the Lord has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all.
    7 He was oppressed and afflicted,
    yet he did not open his mouth;
    he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
    and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
    so he did not open his mouth.
    8 By oppression[a] and judgment he was taken away.
    Yet who of his generation protested?
    For he was cut off from the land of the living;
    for the transgression of my people he was punished.[b]
    9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
    and with the rich in his death,
    though he had done no violence,
    nor was any deceit in his mouth.
    10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
    and though the Lord makes[c] his life an offering for sin,
    he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
    and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
    11 After he has suffered,
    he will see the light of life[d] and be satisfied[e];
    by his knowledge[f] my righteous servant will justify many,
    and he will bear their iniquities.
    12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,[g]
    and he will divide the spoils with the strong,[h]
    because he poured out his life unto death,
    and was numbered with the transgressors.
    For he bore the sin of many,
    and made intercession for the transgressors.

      N vd Plas Isaiah 53... 1Who would have believed our report, and to whom was the arm of the Lord revealed? 2And he came up like a sapling before it, and like a root from dry ground, he had neither form nor comeliness; and we saw him that he had no appearance. Now shall we desire him? 3Despised and rejected by men, a man of pains and accustomed to illness, and as one who hides his face from us, despised and we held him of no account. 4Indeed, he bore our illnesses, and our pains-he carried them, yet we accounted him as plagued, smitten by God and oppressed. 5But he was pained because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his wound we were healed. 6We all went astray like sheep, we have turned, each one on his way, and the Lord accepted his prayers for the iniquity of all of us. 7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he would not open his mouth; like a lamb to the slaughter he would be brought, and like a ewe that is mute before her shearers, and he would not open his mouth. 8From imprisonment and from judgment he is taken, and his generation who shall tell? For he was cut off from the land of the living; because of the transgression of my people, a plague befell them. 9And he gave his grave to the wicked, and to the wealthy with his kinds of deaths, because he committed no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. 10And the Lord wished to crush him, He made him ill; if his soul makes itself restitution, he shall see children, he shall prolong his days, and God's purpose shall prosper in his hand. 11From the toil of his soul he would see, he would be satisfied; with his knowledge My servant would vindicate the just for many, and their iniquities he would bear. 12Therefore, I will allot him a portion in public, and with the strong he shall share plunder, because he poured out his soul to death, and with transgressors he was counted; and he bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors. Note the contrast in translations. Then look at the following and note the context... 15So shall he cast down many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him, for, what had not been told them they saw, and [at] what they had not heard they gazed. This last verse here is verse 15 from chapter 52 which provides the context for chapter 53. The kings of the nations are speaking in Isaiah 53 all the way till verse 10.

      ellenfrancis67, you could also question her as to how she would derive jesus from 'he was assigned a grave with the wicked'. After all, according to the new test wasn't jesus assigned a grave with the rich? His death was with the wicked according to the new test. Yet her version of Isaiah says the precise opposite. That the death was with the rich. So it turns out that her version of Isaiah 53 is the exact OPPOSITE of the jesus story here. P.S. ויתן means and he gave. :-) (you forgot the 'and')

    • @meme-bd5hk
      @meme-bd5hk 6 лет назад +3

      ellenfrancis67, they probably have nothing to say about this because they probably have not really internalized what they read. Christians unfortunately have been dumbed down. I don't mean this as an insult to them. It is simply that this is how they have been taught to think. In fact they have been taught not to think. They have been taught to accept what they are told face value. If they actually truly looked for themselves they would clearly see the internal contradictions of their theology.
      Note how what Isaiah 53 says about the death and burial is the exact opposite (as I pointed out previously) of the way jesus is portrayed yet Christians insist on pointing to jesus as the subject. Had they actually used their brain to think about it, they would right away realize the fact that it is the exact opposite of the jesus story.
      I will point out another thing for you. If you look at John chapter 3 verse 13 you will note that he quotes jesus as saying "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven." But this clearly stands in contradiction of God's word in 2nd Kings chapter 2 verse 11 which states "And it was that they were going, walking and talking, and behold a fiery chariot and fiery horses, and they separated them both. And Elijah ascended to heaven in a whirlwind."
      These are the things Christians are never taught to notice. They just accept things at face value as to what the new test teaches. & then they add on their own commentary which also ends up for the most part contradicting what God says in Tanach. (such as the verse here in Isaiah 53 we are discussing)
      P.S. You're welcome. (on your other post for the thank you)

On the contrary when we consider the qualities which make moshiach we realize he is the anthesis of moshiach. The defining characteristic of moshiach is that he brings Jewish people back together and closer to God and His Torah and in the words of the rambam "has anyone done more harm in driving the Jewish people away from God, than Jesus?"

      Rebbe Yeshua miNetzaret was a young 1st century CE Romaniote Hillelite of the Holy Land whose biography and teachings are recorded in Romaniote literature of the same century. His disciples (Simon Clopas and others) were sent to deal with his nephew Plony Yeshu HaNotzri Ben Stada' followers by Herod Agrippa II's Sanhedrin during the reign of Helen of Adiabene. From the early 4th century onwards, Rome made it illegal for Romaniotes to teach anything about their Rebbe. Nevertheless, a Hebrew record of his Biography and teachings known as Hebrew Matityahu has still survived into the present along with a handful of oblique references to him in Jewish tradition. He is not to be confused with his nephew Plony Yeshu HaNotzri Ben Stada.

      Well, that's what Christians believe.
      It actually was a pretty minor Jewish sect originally.
      It changed after Paul let in non-Jews without requiring that they first undergo conversion to Judaism, and once Emperor Constantine became Christian, it became kind of a big deal. But Lubavitch (Chabad) , contrary to some Jewish critics who say it will develop into another religion like Christianity, isn't interested in bringing in non-Jews. Any non-Jews who become Chabad/Lubavitch first undergo rigorous conversion to Orthodox Judaism, but not because Chabad missionizes among them.

    • @Michael-heavenly
      @Michael-heavenly 6 лет назад +9

      M Benyossef yes i am well versed in church history, also I’m from Jordan/Palestine, so my ancestors were quite literally the first Christians in the world and the development of the sect into a world religion is well documented in our monasteries and holy cites. And as a matter of fact Christianity was already quite big deal before Constantine became Christian and the number of saints and martyrs and underground churches attests to that. I also think it’s quite clear in the Hebrew Scriptures that the Messiah is supposed to bring in the nations and that the new covenant would be distinct from the Old and worship would be in Truth and Spirit. This would not be possible without solving the problem of the rebellious human heart- which only through the Love of God through Christ can truly be amended “heart of stone vs. heart of flesh”. I would be very suspicious of a “Messiah” that cared not for humanity and only for the Jewish people/religion - that would make the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob the god of Israel alone and not the One True God, creator of heaven and earth.

      @guywhousesapseudonymonyout4272 6 лет назад +1

      Well, although I was raised in a religious Jewish home, I'm an agnostic now and I lean more towards atheism (Thank God!).
      Yes, Christianity was growing before Constantine, but it was first one of many competing Jewish sects and then after Paul allowed Gentiles in, it was just one of many Oriental cults in the Roman Empire. Jewish teaching lays out a number of necessary conditions for the Messiah to fulfill, including ingathering the Jews in their homeland, ending all wars, rebuilding the Temple, etc.
      Traditional Jewish eschatology teaches that when the 3rd Temple is rebuilt and all the Jews of the world are restored to their homeland (not in the way that so many Jews live in the State of Israel today), the world will be restored to its rightful order and things will be better for all humanity.
      At any rate, neither the late Lubavitcher Rebbe nor the dude from Nazareth fulfilled these conditions. (As far as I'm concerned this is all nonsense.)

      Jesus never claimed to be God he claimed to be the messiah. his followers claimed that he was the messiah who was of a divine nature who revealed God nature to his people, he fulfilled the checklist all the prophets said the messiah would do. hell was a roman perversion to conquer the goths and surrounding area's. later on Yeshua became God and the trinity was defined when the trinity was supposed to be a transcendent mystery of how God and the messiah work it was never to be defined. the messiah is supposed to reveal divine truth to his people and solve problems of humanity that no one has solved yet. the messiah is a concept that is transcendent and no man can truly achieve. people can only follow the way of the messiah. what is the way of the messiah? ill give a parable. a man or woman, works day and night grinding the bone trying every solution suffering every failure in order to find the cure to cancer. day and night the person works even tho they might not find it they keep trying, well one day after an ubsurd amount of effort blood sweat and tears. they find the cure, then a man in a suit appears and tell them if they bury the secret cure they will give them riches, woman, and wealth, because they have made a profit off the problem remaining in the world. the person refuses the man in the suit. it is clear tho if they release the cure to cancer they might and probably will perish a horrible death. but regardless they publish the cure anyways even if it does kill them... WHY??? love... thats the only reason why and the only answer..love. these people are the ones who will save the world and make it better. only those people who fit that allegory. no politician who say a bunch of empty promises. or a revolutionary who says change the world by force just do the same bullshit but different people in charge. one set of people move the world forward and in a better place. the others move the world in circles wasting time and ruining lives.

      I'm not with that the comment above wrote, but that is the point.
      According to jewdism the Messiah could be anyone, like Moses was only guardian some sheep and he became the leader of Israel, like King David who was the weakest among his brothers (he lived in a poor village) he was chosen to be the king of Israel, like shaul who became the king of Israel after he tried to help his father take his injured donkey upon him from Jerusalem to his village.
      We've seen it throughout the Torah. And I believe that the Messiah could be anyone. Jesus has denied the Torah, caused a huge division in Judea and took advantage of rabbais to teach him magic so he could carry more people through his way.
      Funny thing is when you compare Moses and Jesus, Moses was shepherd, Jesus was a salesman after being a carpenter.
      Like I said, the Messiah could be anyone. But not one who denies the Torah and causing the nation to fight against itself

    We have to be very careful not to idolize someone to the point of claiming they are the Messiah, when they don’t meet all the criteria of the Messiah. I think the Lubavitcher Rebbe was a very righteous individual. He did so much good, perhaps more so than anybody else in our generation, but that doesn’t mean that he hast to be the Messiah. If anything, he is helped pave the way for the Messiah. When we stoop to saying that, because he was a righteous person, he could be the Messiah, we’re falling into the same trap that Christians fell into with their deity. The Lubavitcher Rebbe was a giant among us. But he wasn’t Messiah.

      Jesus was the messiah in every way you can see. He spoke the truth did miracles and ascended to the Father. He was the incarnation of God. God doesn't have a form he's not a man like people imagine him to be. Jesus is the human form of God. Which ancient people had trouble understanding. Throughout old testament God has been giving instructions to the Jews to live a certain way but they failed to do so even like they do now. So he came in the form of a human just to show how it should be done. He challenged the corrupt Jewish preists even calling them hypocrites. Which is why he is villainized by the jews. Even the Romans found no fault with him when they crucified him. Demons feared him. Tell me one jewish leader that the demons fear now. Up until Jesus Christ every prophet in the old testament was from God. After his resurrection every one that followed was what the Bible says beware of wolves in Sheep's clothing. Don't believe me look at the markets controlled by the jews. Rothschilds, etc. You name it. Just like how the Messiah (Jesus Christ) came from the Jews the same way the anti‐christ (Satan's son) will come from the Jews as well

    • @JoshuaRanen
      @JoshuaRanen 10 месяцев назад

      I see some similarities between this Rebbe and Jesus in the way their followers idolize them. Originally the Jesus movement merely recognized Jesus as a human man, a jew who they thought to be the Messiah. After his death, they then experienced visions of a resurrected Jesus or hallucinations of him if you don't believe in his resurrection. They also found an empty tomb. Jesus's body was most likely removed by Roman soldiers from the tomb but these Jesus followers so desperately wanted him to be the messiah, they concluded that an empty tomb could only mean a resurrection. Since they thought him to have resurrected, they went to the Tanakh and interpreted it as a prediction of Jesus and claimed that Jesus would return as Messiah. But they did not claim he was a god, at least not yet only a messiah, because the Jesus' followers were still orthodox Jews who adhered to the strict monotheism. We see this in three books of the Christian bible , Mark, Mathew and Luke who label Jesus as Messiah but not God. Here, in the case of the Lubavitch Rebbe, we have followers who claim that even though the Rebbe died, he will return as messiah and there are others who believe that he is still alive at 770 eastern parkway and is remaining hidden. Despite the fact that we have video and thousands of witnesses of him going into the ground. So this parallels the early stage of the Jesus movement in that they refuse to accept the death of their Rebbe. However as we all know, some 30 to 40 years after his death, two followers of Jesus, named Paul and John began to claim that Jesus was a manifestation of God himself, God living on earth, making no distinction between Jesus and God. They claimed Jesus followers did not need to follow all of Torah and Jewish Law. They split the Jesus movement in two and were in opposition to James, a brother of Jesus who led the original sect of the Jesus movement, who adhered to Jewish law and refused to call Jesus God. These followers of Paul and John called themselves Christians. The original Jesus followers called themselves Ebionites and were eventually killed, banned, and eradicated by Roman Christian emperors a few centuries later. The Ebionites were like the Lubavitcher Chabadniks today, an Orthodox Jewish movement that claimed a dead man as a messiah who will return in resurrected form. The question is will they eventually start to claim that this Rebbe is divine and even somehow God? Could they even reject Torah as some early Christians did. If Christianity is a good example of this, in a century or so Chabad may be it's own religion completely separate from Judaism.

    Only Lubavitch believes that Rabbi Shneerson ע"ה, could be the messiah, and could somehow still be alive. Furthermore, they are the only sect of seemingly Orthodox Jews who believe in the concept of a second coming.

      Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. As for denial of the Torah, it's pretty clear that he is told to be well versed in the Torah but is against the establishment and that his fight ended up being with the priests of the temple. Also, no one references the first messiah, Cyrus.... amiright?

Also I had to track down this little bit of wisdom which I look at as middle ground. No one is correct. "Pappos ben Yehuda, is mentioned as being martyred with Rabbi Akiva[6] and is himself mentioned as being among the Pharisees returning to Israel following their persecution by John Hyrcanus,[5] which would place Yeshu's lifetime anywhere between 130 after and 70 years before the birth of Jesus." Let's be reasonable and say... I like ancient history. We can leave it at that.

      Christian here. I would say that christians do not care to deny judaism - Maybe the lubavitcher rebbe is the messiah? I would expect the messiah to return, from the line of Juda and David (Though i do not know the geneology of the lubavitcher rebbe).
      We just follow Yeshua and his teachings, until his returrn is evident - As lightning strikes from the west to the east, so the return of the messiah shall be evident to all.

      @@JezielProdigalSon i wasn’t saying whether the lubavitcher rebbe or jesus was the messiah, i was simply saying that since corey asked the question to chabad-niks he should reverse the question and ask it to christians, also according to your new testament jesus is not descended from David because the messiah has to be descended from the father’s side through David+Solomon BIOLOGICALLY, this was an issue that the earliest christians had with the virgin birth, in fact, the very first Jewish followers of jesus(known as ebionites) didn’t believe in the virgin birth, they believed in the adoptionist theory that jesus wasnt God’s biological son but his adopted son which personally i think makes way more sense than what christians today believe, i myself used to be a christian and saw very big problems with deifying jesus and with the virgin birth and with many other mainstream christian doctrines that didnt come from the Bible but from the council of nicea, in the end i think that the adoptionist theory could be possible but i won’t worry on who the messiah is until he arrives since the Tanakh says that when the messiah arrives no one will be able to deny him, so if the messiah arrives and it’s jesus or if it’s someone else then great, but the main thing to focus on in the here&now is following God’s laws, oh also i dont think that the lubavitcher rebbe could be the messiah at all since he never even claimed the title and his geneology is pretty sketchy in my opinion

    Great video, was nice to hear so many opinions, especially from a Chabad perpective. Though here in Budapest there are some Lubovitch in my area (a couple of streets), there is zero religious discourse, which I can inderstand due to the horrors of the near-past, but as a curious soul I still find it unfortunate. I realizse from having grown up in NYC that not all sects even WANT to speak to a non-jew, not out of spite but because they see it as pointless/waste of time. I strongly disagree with this, as it serves their best interest to get to know the people in their community (and see it as such), with the local community getting to know thrm and what they feel strongly about in life and their relationship to God. This would be so easy to do and would make life so much nicer by dispelling the fear of the unknown that is inherent in people. Yet instead it is somehow still seen as pious to find and focus on the few things that divide us :/

    Jesus was a sinner according to Jewish law. He was not perfect. That is why he is not the Messiah. That is the Jewish tradition, although not the Christian faith, obviously. One of the Jewish commentators even mentions that the Messiah awaits in Eden to be called down and bring the Messiah. I think it is Derech Eretz Zuta, for sure the Maharsha in Sanhedrin commentary around daf 97. And yes, the Rebbe is Moshiach.
