Try baking those beads on stove top for 15 minutes then put them directly into cold water and they will crackle all the way through making it easier to break.
I go the easier and cheapest method.... I go to a local glass shop and ask for broken mirror, and mirror scraps. The guy is happy to take my bucket into the shop and gather me up some scraps of super high quality mirror for free! I take it home, wrap in a throw away towel, and hammer the shit out of it.

If you get a full length mirror from Dollar General of anywhere you can find a cheap one, you can break it and have LOTS of mirror pieces for very little$'s
