- Ten bass saxophones and two contrabass saxophones played John Wernega's arrangement of "When You're Smiling" on April 23, 2022 at Ferko String Band's clubhouse in Philadelphia. This was our first gathering, and we plan on having more in the future. Players traveled up to seven hours to play in the gathering.
Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in just saxophones in a room together
if not millions
That is correct!
there are only 25 or so contrabasses so probably more
You Tube certainly gives us the chance to see many things we might otherwise never see. Ha, ha ha.
I have never felt so warm to hear the tone of a sax until now!
I love this. I still can't believe i don't have a bass sax
Totally awesome!!! Feel the power!
Thank you!
How is it so many of the instruments vary in size? That one is enormous.
one is a contrabass not a bass
There's a few contras and also a subcontra tubax
This sounds so Awesome!!!!
Thank you!
This is awesome
Thank you!
Good times!😊
Yes.
Top!
I play alto but I’d love to try one of those monsters just to see if I can get anything out of it.
Do you live near Philadelphia?
@@thelonearranger1 Nope, Ohio.
Good idea... Next time could you do a similar experiment with only soprano and sopranino saxophones?
Thank you
You wouldn't want to find a contrabass sax in your Xmas stocking.
I actually wish Santa would bring me a tuba.
You would if you were a woodwind player and didn't have one.
Holy shit, how I want a bass sax
I would love to own one as well.
I'm sorry but I made it to 16 seconds, and that was all I could take.
Nice video editing on perhaps the best arrangement of the day!
(Typo note for John: the date was APRIL 23, not March).
God bless!!
Thank you! I fixed the date. So glad you enjoyed this.
Is the instrument in the center at 0:47 with a very long bell, a bass with a low A key?
hi. that is a "compact wrap" contrabass by the Brazilian maker "J'elle Stainer". NONE of the saxes had low A keys that day. I thought you were referring to the one on the right, which is simply a very long saxophone; a standard wrap contrabass, to be exact.
@@dryjazzwe sure it’s a contra? Paper clip contras are usually a lot smaller
0:47 the sax in the middle is a contrabass sax right? I know the one on the right is but the middle one I’m 80% sure is one too
I believe that very tall sax is the contrabass.
@@johnnyedifyyeah you’re right, I’m talking about the one to the left of the really tall sax(video view). It has a orange like lacquer. It looks like a compact contrabass sax.
@@Kevin-ek1suit's a contra they just add an addition bend between yhe right and left hand so it isn't tall like the other one
@@Kevin-ek1sucompact contras are smaller. It’s a sub contra.
0:45 - that's not an Orsi or a Tubax. It must be one of those South American church horns.
Correctish there's multiple contras there's a normal contra the one you saw a Bb tubax Wich is a subcontra
This sounds pretty ass ngl lmao. As a 15 year sax vet
Solo estás intentado de ser diferente
Then piss off and don’t leave a comment asshat
