Comment by Carmencita: It is a beautiful island, gorgeous scenery if you drive to other towns; the ignorance about Puerto Rico is still prevalent. People think it is a very poor island, like Haiti. Well, it probably is poor in a way, but people there certainly live very well. Old San Juan is full of history and pretty architecture, Condado was a high-class neighborhood with beautiful houses, some of them are still standing, but many were converted into businesses, others were demolished, sadly, to build hotels, but it is still a pretty area.

Condado is an upscale, fancy ocean front resort strip, a little Miami type vibe. Beautiful beach 🏝BUT not safe for swimming in SOME areas there. The waves break close to shore. There are warning signs up . Basically saying swim at your own risk. So KEEP children from going in too deep.
Isla Verde is similar, a resort strip too.
Ocean Park near by, also has a nice beach spot with a neighborhood feel to it. Both areas🏖 (Condado/ Isla Verde) attract tourist mostly because, it is close to airport, beaches, pedestrian oriented, everthing is within walking distance.
The displaying of LGBTQ flags there that day, was bc of their annual parade celebration.

Native here, Puerto Rico is beautiful but is rough living there. I’m guessing you are bringing your job/ company to have a better living situation. Also it depends what part you are going. Most people do speak English, but is way easier if you know the language. Make sure you are always ready for random power outages, summers are so hot that you have to save some buckets with water because the wells dry and they ratio the water. Meaning if it doesn’t rain soon , they control the water, so one day you’ll have water and the next day you won’t. People have 0 patience there, so watch out for some locals who think they are tough thugs. Other than that, enjoy endless summer days at the beach

In fact, Puerto Rico calls itself the rum capital of the world. The island produces over eighty percent of all rum consumed in the US. Puerto Rican rums are made by five major companies. Puerto Rico is definitely easier to travel than probably any other Spanish speaking country in Latin America. For example they speak a lot of English in Costa Rica but you still have to do the currency conversion. PR is also a US territory so no passport is needed.
