Locals in the San Juan/Santurce/Rio Piedras area mostly hang out at La Placita de Santurce, Calle Loiza, Pinones and Rio Piedras, near University of Puerto Rico. The crowds gather at these spots depending on the day of the week. For example, Thursday nights there's plenty of partying in Rio Piedras, especially during the school semester because of the university. La Placita is on Thur-Sun: Thursdays is mostly happy hour after work; Fridays and Saturdays it starts early and the younger crowd starts arriving after 11am until the wee hours. Sundays after 1pm, there used to be a lot of salsa dancing at La Placita, I do not know how it is currently. Pinones is another place to hang out Sundays during the day. Old San Juan prices and lack of parking space, keep us locals away, except in the La Perla area and nearby bars. Cheers!
It’s good you know Spanish. San Juan is a tourist city so most People there speak English. But outside San Juan Spanish is the majority language for sure

La Placita has held its own in a pretty financially depressed, yet central, part of San Juan. Word of caution, I would not venture into other discotheques on or around the main Ponce de Leon Avenue (where the video commences). Those discotheques are infamous underworld hangouts and not touristic. Many locals avoid them, for they have constant shooting and murders outside. Granted, most are targeted assassinations related to the drug trade and not random but few want to be part of that dangerous atmosphere. This very year there was a targeted murder at La Placita itself, sadly.

So since I'm traveling alone I want to be really well prepared and learn about all the must-do's as well as what to avoid and to think about to stay safe :) Great video really muchas gracias!!! I hope the Boricuas are as nice as they seem because I'm planning to make a whole bunch of new friends when I get there :D
I'm Puerto Rican. I wouldn't travel there right now considering what's happening. When tourists come they make the prices go up for natives. And we are protesting right now against gringos stealing our island and LUMA leaving us without power to chase us out. If you go anyway just please be respectful and maybe you can spread awareness about what's happening to us. Bad Bunny talks about it in his latest music video El Apagon.
Doing my 21 years of life I never traveled outside the country watching other people experience of what that city is like. Soon hopefully soon I can experience shit like this.
